Ok couple questions #1 are there guys that haul just calves like a dedicated thing for dairy’s or something and #2 what is the protocol for the unfortunate situation when you do lose a calf? Do you leave it with the receiver or do you have a specific spot you have to dispose of the deceased calf? Great seeing you again!

There’s dedicated lanes. And if something is DOA. It’s left at the receiver most of the time. And if it’s my fault I pay for it

If a DOA happens because of taking to long to do the run I’m responsible. Or if a injury requiring euthanasia occurs I could be held responsible. Other situations such as not calculating my numbers correctly resulting in a doa could also cause me to pay for one. Lots of different situations. Some loads are insured, some are not, some are insured but could have claim’s rejected. Case by case basis. But i. Have a great track record so this isn’t really an issue for me. Others are not so lucky

Do you have much loss in transport?

Mann can cattle be this big off just being grass fed? Or?

Usually ranchers feed calves grass fed diet once they reach 300 to 400 pounds they wean their calves from mom, and sell calves to auction and feedlot buyers will buy these calves, once calves reached in feedlot like these, feedlot will feed them grain fed diet and fatten em up for 1500 pounds, the cattle will stay around 5 to 6 or 8 months, once they reach final weight that’s it, it’s time for freezer camp, steaks.
