In this video I compete my first Zwift training plan and share what I've learnt. Find out if I managed to increase my fitness levels, including that all important power-to-weight ratio, in the FTP test at the end.

    The biggest and easiest improvement you can make is getting a fan. I have two and one is so powerful it almost rips my t-shirt off. Joking aside, a rise in core temperature increases your RPE so you slow down. Having a fan doesn't make you stronger per se, it lowers your RPE, it feels easier and you can go harder for longer. I have one trained on my head and the other on my body and legs. The effect of lowering your RPE is almost immediate when you ride without a fan then turn it on.

    I got two fans from Amazon and picked up one of those remote controlled outlet bars. Now I can switch the fans on from the uncomfort of my bike seat and feel the gentle hurricane breeze wash over me. Best additiion to my pain cave ever. 😂

    Getting a full-smart trainer IMO is a real game-changer for indoor riding. It makes workouts a no-brainer since it's only 'painting by numbers' instead of trying to get correct cadence and power down while you're already in agony on some workouts. To be honest, I stopped doing to many free rides and went to mostly workouts because you don't always have to shift through your cassette with all these little bumps, especially in the rural parts of Watopia.

    Just like adding upgrades to my bike annually keeps my interest peaked for outdoor rides (this season it's a power meter), upgrading my indoor trainer to a direct drive wahoo kickr core helped me do more indoor riding this winter than ever. So much better than my previous wheel on smart trainer and original wheel on dumb trainer.

    Great vid and good job on completing your training program. I'm in the midst of a 4 week program on Zwift, currently, in the middle of week 2. It's my 1st time doing a structured training program an so far it's been great. I have a workout room for my setup, I have Tacx Flux S trainer, computer, 50 inch TV, 2 fans front and back. IMO having a room for it instead of garage is the best way to go. Ride on.

    That's a huge improvement going from 2.8w/kg to 3.3. Congrats! One of the best things I did this year was getting a direct mount Wahoo Kickr indoor trainer. I went from 1.2w/kg up to 2.5w/kg in 4 months. Hoping to build up to >3w/kg one day.

    Great job on completing your program! I particularly enjoyed that you mentioned neglecting your children within the law haha I just got onto Zwift for this reason as I have a son of 2 months and when he naps, I try to train since leaving the house isn't an option. However, this has proven to still be difficult as he likes to wake up just as I am "walnuts deep" (haha) into my FTP session and thus no completions yet for me! New subscriber ;)

    Extremely entertaining video! Thank you for sharing your experience! I just this second purchased a Jet Black smart trainer(since it's the exact same one that Zwift is going to start selling in October) so I can get more out of my new bike and start actually seeing some fitness gains in my 44 years of age. Since I work nocturnally, it's not always feasible to ride every day and the weather often doesn't permit either, but now I'm hopefully going to see gains and more important, see them translate to ON THE ROAD. Great video, cheers!

    The same training plan took me from 3.3 to 3.6 W/kg at 49 (on Wahoo kicker core) over the previous winter. It's a quick way to "level up". Building up from there though is much harder.

    Congratulations on your massive improvement from 2.8 to 3.3! Well done! As an ebike user, I recently found a new project called the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike, and it's truly impressive. One of its outstanding features is the indoor recharge capability, allowing you to charge the bike while using it indoors. It's a game-changer for those who enjoy indoor training. The Morph eBike also offers a powerful 750W motor, 80mm front suspension, and puncture-resistant tires for a smooth and confident outdoor ride. Plus, its Smart Saddle Detection+ feature provides valuable performance insights and keeps you motivated. Keep up the great work, and enjoy your cycling journey!

    Fun Vid, but either look at a few bike fit videos or better still get one. Risk of doing some damage if your watts keep going up. Hips not stable and legs over extending. It's not as simple as just dropping the saddle --- but getting it right will lead to way more comfort,vefficiency and effectively free watts!!

    Well done… I am on week 6 now. Similar stats so just wanted to ask. My last two threshold workouts in week5, I had to hold FTP for like 4-5mins at 100rpm. By this stage I could not hold the cadence and so I grinded the FTP at around 70-80rpm. How was your experience in terms of holding cadence on the harder workouts?

  • @Sportivecyclist

    @Sportivecyclist

    2 жыл бұрын

    I don’t remember having a particular problem with higher cadence but I do tend to prefer spinning over grinding. Also I was doing it on the elite so there was no erg mode controlling the trainer - I was using the gears to hit the power and cadence numbers - I may have been making it easier for myself….

    Ay up mucker, is there a simple app that floats over other apps that can read your speed cadence and mileage in the corner of ones screen whilst say watching youtube/movies etc? so you can basically work out and be entertained simultaneously? And if not, don't steal my idea! 🤫
