It is important to remember the Titans rule of thumb: if you hold out your hand at arms length and put your thumb up centered on the titan and your thumb covers the titan, you are at a safe distance; if you can see the carapace weapons and arms, you have time to run; if you can see any more than that you have time to pray.

Friend of mine was telling me about a lore tidbit for 40k one day... Something about the Tau and their first military campaign against the Imperium of Man. They're successfully taking world after world and even fighting off space marines with their advanced battle suits. So, ya know, pretty successful campaign so far, all things considered. Then at some point they intercept some Imperial communications about Titans and they legit think its just some psyop. They do *not* believe that Titans could physically exist. Then, some months later, the Imperium giggles at the Tau with "you call _that_ thing a mech? THIS is a mech!" and they drop a Warlord Titan (which, evidently, *isn't even the biggest titan* somehow). And the Tau get BTFO'd so hard that they have to do intense research to develop anti-titan tactics. Titans singlehandedly broke the Tau's battle-hardened military because before the Tau were like "yeah, mankind is mostly poor factory workers with flashlights, tanks, and a handful of competent space marines" and then a fughuge warmachine the size of skyscrapers and the firepower/shields of an orbital destroyer drops from atmosphere to ensure that they have a very bad day.

Fun fact, Titans can roar at people: a pure animalistic release of a Titan's machine spirit's desire to fight and destroy anything that dares stand in its path. And remember that the STCs that contain Titan designs were made back during the dark age of technology. While the style of their fortress battlements might have changed with time, their core technology wouldn't have; because that would be blasphemous. Which means that way back when, long before the cult mechanica or any of the culture and trappings of 40k existed, some engineer decided that what the sixty meter tall war machines really needed to be able to do, was ROAR at people. And everyone else immediately agreed with that guy too and worked the feature into every Titan design in existence.

Actually, the deployment of Titans is still a pretty big deal, even for WH40k. Mostly because the threshold that needs to be reached to justify their deployment is pretty high; like, a Company of Astartes and several Armoured Regiments of Guardsmen can't succeed at an objective. In the WH40k-verse, this is a Monday. Slightly suckier than most days, but still fairly standard.

So apparently emperor class titans have drop pods and one was even deployed on istvaan I believe Edit: “Temeter saw a huge shadow dropping towards the horizon on pillars of retro-rocket fire, and then felt the earth tremble like a struck bell. Every Astartes in the bunker left the floor for a split second, and he heard the ferrocrete roof crack with the shockwave. The captain peered out and saw a massive cylinder standing upright in a shroud of steam, some distance beyond the zone where the drop-pods had put down. It was easily the size of a hive-city habitat block, guidance fins still glowing cherry-red with the heat of re-entry. There came the mighty moan of stressed metals and the sides of the cylinder fell away, trailing flexible pipes and streams of white vapour. From inside the monstrous drop-capsule came the hooting call of battle-horn, and then planes of steel and iron emerged from the smoke to become a colossus bristling with armour and guns. The ground resonated with each thunderous footfall as the Imperator-class Titan strode towards the Choral City.” Flight of the Eisenstein, page 166

I love how these sounds tell a story: an enemy firing at the Titan, giving away their position. Then the Titan turns to them, bellows out a blast from its war horn, and begins charging its plasma annihilator. When the enemies hear the capacitors spooling up, they desperately fire everything they have at the Titan, hoping in vain to stop what’s coming. The capacitors reach their full charge and their devastation is unleashed in the form of a miniature sun pouring forth onto the battlefield, wiping from existence any trace of the traitors. Their guns fall silent, reduced to atoms, as the Titan pauses for a moment, its princeps surveying the vast swathe of glowing glass and ash he just created. Relative quiet falls across the battlefield, broken only by the sound of dancing flames, the blaring of a far-away siren, and distant sounds of a never-ending battle stretching beyond the horizon.

Man, I really want a game where you play as Secutarii, the Titan-guard. They are specific form of Skitarii, bound in service to the titan legions. They form the foot soldiers of the Collegia Titanica, keeping enemy infantry from over running the god-engines as they focus on bigger prey. Additionally the are tasked with guarding off-duty titans and penetrating deep into battlefields, often behind enemy lines, to recover the Moderati and Princeps of fallen titans, living or dead. Princeps are exceedingly rare individuals, barely 1 in 10 million are able to even begin training and few of them will ever complete it, as such the titan legions will expend countless Secutarii if there is even the slightest hope of recovering one after the fall of their titan. One of the cooler things that's mention in one of the Imperial Armour books is that they magnets built into their hands and feet, allowing them to ride the feet and legs of the titans as they take a colossal step.

Look at it like Luke taking down an AT-AT with a grappling hook, a lightsaber and a grenade. Sure, they aren't a severe threat, unless they possess something that could have an effect on the Titan. They can walk straight through the Void Shields protecting the Titan and access its feet, so if it's stationary and the infantry go undetected, they could set off explosives that, even if they can't pierce the armour of the Titan, they could definitely blast out the ground from under its feet, causing it to fall. Imagine it, being in this giant war machine, and suddenly the ground beneath the feet of your behemoth machine is blasted away, dropping the entire thing into the ground. Sure, it could maybe climb out again, but it would definitely distract it and halt it's fire, meaning whatever it was shooting at when it was so distracted would have free time to do something.

The weapon charges up, the guardsmen stop fighting to take cover where they can. Marines keep fighting. Weapon discharges and the guardsmen sees nothing but the purest white light, even though he's buried himself in his arms and cover. The titan keeps firing and takes another step forward. Sounds like a tzeentch thing. A plague marine'd kill you on contact, you wouldn't survive a khornate hug, and a slaaneshi wouldn't stop at an embrace. Beware, though, for that hug was part of a plan far larger than you can imagine, and you are now an unwilling participant in the ultimate victory of the Changer of Ways.

I mean you're not wrong, Warhammer 40K has like all the most destructive and absolutely bonkers arsenal in the sci fi genre like for example a Necron Dynasty(forgot their name) literally have an orb that depicts every star and planet in the entire galaxy and when they just touch a star or a planet in the orb the real star or planet just explodes and all its inhabitants die but luckily this Necron Dynasty actually cares about life and they only ever use the orb in the most extreme cases.

The Culture's preferred way of war, when it must be done, is to scour planets clean using antimatter contained in an effector-manipulated grid controlled by a sentient starship from several hundred lightyears away. ... and the Culture is a mid-tier power at best in their series.

The Titan Exploded, hitting everything in a 18" radius, wich was part of a Dark Angels Ravewing( half of it) and 1/4 of an Imperial Fist defense Line and some of my own units... Oblitirating EVERYTHING!!!!, and Kharn somehow survived this ( rolled a 1 on the roll for the explosion to Wound him) and then proceeded to go and engage another unit after that...
