40k History: Ultramarines

Ойындар

Legion 13 of the original 20 legions. Their Primarch, Roboute Guilliman, is the author of the codex astartes. Any deviation from the codex in the slightest degree is considered heresy.

    The word ultramarine means 'beyond the sea'. This is because the colour was produced by making dye from lapiz lazuli, which was imported from across the sea (asia).

    I love how they all make fun of the Ultramarines, yet I don't see any of their primarchs rebuilding the imperium, writing the guidelines for all space marines, and being the supreme commander of the imperiums military.

    Paul Harney And I don't see the Space Smurfs defending Terra at its most crucial moment, despite their legion being the most numerous during the Horus Heresy. Hell, what did they do, beyond get invaded by World Bearers, go on a wild goose chase against the Alpha Legion that achieved nothing and get their primarch almost killed later? Easy to rebuild everything when you never committed fully to fighting the heresy when it happened. Also, as the Lion said, perhaps Horus wasn't the only one who thought he was the rightful heir to the Imperium... Imperium Secundus ring a bell?

    Although the Ultramarines may seem a little uninteresting, starched and emotionless, they are nonetheless an impressive army with formidable statistics. They have no known weaknesses, neither in an aspect of combat nor in their gen seed. They are practically perfect. I guess this is what makes them kinda boring-it's their perfection.

  • @dweliq

    @dweliq

    9 жыл бұрын

    Exactly! their perfection is completely unnatural, even Emperor acted like a total jackass from time to time (murdered fighters who helped him conquer Earth and humiliated Lorgar which led to Horus heresy for example), In short, ultramarines are bunch of weirdos acting like robots instead of humans. Hell even their primarchs name is Robot!

    largely the same, thing is ward made the ultras absolutely perfect in every way because they were his personal fav, saying they alone held the Imperium together after the heresy, and that all the other marines look up to them as exemplars. worst of all he pushed the other first founding chapters to the side giving them two or three paragraphs of fluff each, and stuffed it back with the second founding chapters like they weren't good enough to have their own fluff put up front.

    It's easily forgotten that the old 2004 4th ed codex had very little fluff regarding the other first founding chapters either: Ultramarines also dominated the times back then, even without Ward. The only real difference was that back then you -could- customize your own chapter using the Traits rules, and there were guides on how to make an army of Raven Guard, Salamanders, etc as well. That all changed with the 5th ed 'dex, although 6th has done much to rectify the problem.

    Yep. I mean the Salamanders traditionally only have 7 companies. It's been the way they've organized themselves since the second founding. Although the Salamanders lost more than most, with barely even any successor chapters of their own, it goes to show just how many Astartes in the other legions were lost in the Heresy.

    These Ultramarine's sound like they are one of the few loyalist space marines the emporium can truly count on for peace and and stability, unlike the other aggressive space marines who are like this, "Live for the emperor, obey the emperor, worship the emperor, serve only the emperor and you will be spared from his wrath and the wrath of his enemy's." this is what I think of some if not all of the space marines. Unless of course the ultramarine's are not different then I guess I'm better off with the Tau.

    I prefer to think of it as the Ultramarines taking penitence for failing to defend the Emperor during his greatest time of need, is the main reason that motivated them to hold together Impirium together afterwards. No they didn't shoulder this burden alone, but they were better equipped and manned to do so soley because of their failure.
