    @@foxalien_official I am using the 4040 version with acrylic parts and do not put Loctite, it will destroy the acrylic just like gallium with aluminum. I have 3d printers so it took a few hours and the machine was up and running with my custom parts. It was not mention anywhere to not put Loctite and honestly on a vibrating machine it just make sense to use Loctite. I guess now I know haha

There are the 3 bolts on each side and you installed the collar using the 2 lower bolts, is there a reason for that? Or, can I install on the upper two bolts just to get a little more height for carving?

    Great Video. Really well done. I set up my 4040-xe using this video and had no trouble with any of it until I went to test the Y and X axis. They are both making noise like they want to move, but not moving. The Z axis is fine. Spindle fine. As shown, I tightened the Y and X axis carriages so they would stick but still move by turning the knobs when in the upright position. Is it possible that they are now too tight? If so, how to loosen? Thanks.

  • @JamesDeanDesigns

    @JamesDeanDesigns

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I suspect the clamps are a little too tight. You simply release the bolts applying the pressure to the wheels by about half a turn, then release the bolts holding the plates and tighten then straight back up so it should release some pressure. In retrospect i probably tightened them up a fraction too much in my video

    @@JamesDeanDesigns Thanks. Again, great video!! I'm loosening Gantry just a bit as you suggested.. There is a kind of sticking point in the belt maybe due to sitting in the same spot during shipping. I'm finding that as long as I don't start my x-axis in that spot, it will work, but if it settles in that spot, it won't move. Possibly need to tighten belt. IDK. Right now I'm stuck on the code for User Button 1. Not working. Haven't yet tried every poss angle. Thanks again.

    Hi James. Big fan of your videos thanks. They are great for a beginner CNCer like me. Thanks. Quick question for you. My 4040 XE seems to stop mid-print quite often . It seems like its getting bogged won. I've been trying to use a 1/4" spiral up bit. The only way i can get it to run through the entire project is to run it really slow (like 0.02" per pass, 5"/min plunge, 30"/min speed) and even then it stops pretty often. with an 1/8" inch bit i can run it a bit faster, but it seems to happen there too. Am I doing something wrong, is there possible an issue with my machine/spindle?

    Dear James, I have already received my new machine (4040 xe), but was not yet at home, because i am on a trip till end of march. I am very excited about the device! It would be great if you could answer my question: What are the allowable cutting forces (Fc in Newtons) on the spindle so that no damage occurs and the elastic deformations remain acceptable in terms of dimensional stability? I am an engineer and will use the machine for wood as a hobby, but sometimes I would also like to mill aluminum carefully. Therefore, I would first calculate the cutting forces and power consumption before making an attempt. I would choose the milling infeed very small to keep the forces low. Thank you very much and many greetings from germany! Best regards Mick

  • @JamesDeanDesigns

    @JamesDeanDesigns

    They are two different machines, the 4040-xe has a larger work area and more powerful stepper motors however being belt driven and having wheel clamps can be more difficult to fine tune for a beginner so you're likely to have less issues out of the box with the 3020, but equally this has a smaller work area so its really about deciding what is important for you. May also be worth considering the FoxAlien Masuter Pro kzread.info/dash/bejne/lYCLy7ubhdG5kbg.html

    There are things that can be done like tightening up the wheels clamps, also make sure $1=255 in your GRBL settings. Then you can start to look at upgrades like using bigger extrusion. Usually though if you get flex like that its an indication to slow down a little or go shallower.

    Hi Matthew, You export the Gcode from Easel and save the file to an SD card. You then load that SD into the offline control and run it from there. Also I would strongly advise you don't run your machine from Easel. Use UGS or Candle, much better and no need to worry about the internet connection dropping out.

    I also mention loctite for the Sainsmart 4030 as well in the build video (if I remember correctly). Its not a defect as such but a lot of the threads on these machines are quite fine so you can't tighten them up too much which is why the loctite helps. I need to test the machine a bit more but it feels like this is targeted a bit more a laser users with the fact its belt driven but the Sainsmart is probably towards heavier CNC work such as metal

    Hi Craig, I love my 4040XE. I would recommend getting the FoxAlien 20w laser with it. There is also the 40w laser now but that does bump the price up quite a bit but it is very powerful. Supply in the UK fluctuates. they only send over stock every couple of months so if things sell out quickly you can be waiting a while, but keep an eye on Amazon. Also message FoxAlien directly and they can advise when new stock is expected

    In my opinion they both have their plus points and can do very similar jobs so you cant really say which is better to be honest. What I usually advise is if you like laser work lean towards the FoxAlien, if you plan to machine harder material like aluminium then lean towards the ProverXL.

    Whilst they are similar they are different. ProverXL is probably more geared for heavier work, the 4040-XE is for lighter work but can move faster for something like laser work. Its one of the reasons I have both as it cover both ends of the scale. Do you see your self more likely to mill metal or use a laser?

    Holding can be one of multiple things, do you get an error code when it holds? Make sure all of your power saving settings are turned off including Selective USB Suspend. As for making a move not in the program, that is very odd one, I suspect it may be missing steps
