That plane shown here is actually still existing. She got transferred to Delta Air Lines after the two companies merged and after many years in service with Delta, she was retired from service. Delta preserved her in their flight museum and the exact same plane with the rudder problem is sitting in the parking lot of an Atlanta museum near the international airport. N661US

Funny story, I went on a field trip to the exact muesuem in Atlanta.(cause I live in Georgia) and there were several older aircraft I saw there.And I remember going into the 747 that was parked outside, extremely legendary to think that’s the exact same plane that had survived this accident long ago.

@@daviddavis3389 People use pronouns like “she” for things they find somewhat attaching, like a navy calling a battleship “she” instead of “it” (because they dumped a lot of resources to make a battleship). Sorta same with the 747 I guess, and this tradition has been around since forever, really.

I actually saw this at an aviation explorer's group meeting and got to meet John Hansen in person. Really nice guy.

I love that the Pilots and ATC can joke about after they've successfully landed the plane, they deserve the time

I knew one of the HEAD Stewardesses @ NWA for THAT EXACT flight, back to 1968! Her name is Angie-intelligent beautiful classy woman, loved our time together! Oh and great job by the crew, too! :)

That was a fantastic job by the pilots,,exchange of tasks,,,a total portray of Experience at the optimum,,,,as pilots get old the more experienced they get

The description is a little wrong, it was a flight from Detroit to Narita not to Alaska

The 747 had a rudder hard over similar to the two 737 that crashed and they had one rudder where 747 had 2 rudders 1 upper and lower

The not tilted gear when the clip of the gear is first seen down it’s just cursed when it’s tilted in later scenes

Aerodynamic question: the rudder is what was hardover, yet the planes yaw AND roll axis turned left. Why would the rudder cause roll to change, shouldn’t it just the the yaw that changed?
