All those countless lives lost were in vain. The only thing we learn is to hate each other and tear each other down when one climbs up the ladder. 40 years and we still haven't learn a damn thing other then continue hating each other.

Tou Long and his soldiers will not be forgotten. His story is one of many. For they are the heroes who made the ultimate scarifies for the Hmong; for me to have a chance at a better future. My father was a soldier in Laos and a teacher in Ban Vinai Refugee Camp and I was proud of him for his service to his country and was loyal to his leader ( General Van Pao) and most: to his people (Hmoob). Ua tsuab rau koj tij laug ua koj tseem tau muab peb Hmoob zaj keeb kwm koj los qhia rau peb cov hluas tiam no kom peb paub thiab nco txog peb niam, peb txiv, peb pog, peg yawg, peb cov thawj coj. You can thank our parents for not teaching us to love one another and support each other that we had nothing. All those lives lost were in vain. They're death meant nothing to us. That is why we fell so far behind while the rest of the world are moving forward because they know how to love one another and support each other through thick and thin. 40 years and we are still hurting each other over the stupidest things.

Listening to this stories again still brings me to tears. Nco txog kuv yawm txiv tej dab neeg. Who was once a Major (kausmasdas) leading 1,000 soldiers in the battlefield. His stories of accomplishments and friendship life. It's true, some people in our Hmong communities sometimes look down on these leaders sometimes. Saying they're nothing now, why do they keep praising themselves. But seriously it takes a lot of work and effort to earn this leadership.

Every single when I listened to this story I can't stop crying at the climax: same thing when I watched Hmong Best Movie "KOJ MUAJ KUV PLUAG". Great story! Tou Long was very humble, naturally street smart and a very generous person.

silverpaj5 he is he protected everyone and when the year was 1991 my dad die during the Vietnam war too because there was a little bit of soldier left and it wasn't enough men to protect the villagers so my dad decided to stay because he was a soldier just like the other soldier

Great knowledge and great memory is good for education, rebellious are strong and have great leadership skills if they know how to love

This is a great history lesson for Hmong. Tub Looj was a true leader.

I always come back to listen to this story. I would love to hear Tub Looj's daughters' story as well! It would be great to hear what happened to them. happy mothers day story is like my own. i cry. i have 1.7 million life insurance i will be giving to my kids too. hope they can realize like the story u told. i have 4 kids of my own. they not little anymore. never once they call or wish me anything any holiday , birthday etc. but still love them. no mother ever not love their own flash

What a sad story. Got me all emotion and teary eyes. This is the kind of story should be shared with our younger generation kids who don't know why we are here. They will appreciate more and be more proud of who they are. I truly hope Tou Long's kids made it out safe and live to hear their dad's sacrificed so they will live. So sad that their mother got killed but glad that Tou Xais was man enough to make his wife took the kids in to care for them. They at least owe Tou Long that much. True heros and love are given unconditionally.

Although I was born in Laos, I was raised in America and can not even began to phantom the fear and terrors my Hmong people felt during that time, I cried and my heart ache in pain listening to this story. Losing both parents wasnt bad enough, they were shun from the group due to fear. What a brave young girl to go through that hell! I hope she has grown to be a very successful woman and living a blessed and beautiful life. Thank you so much for telling the story. Would you be able to follow up on what happened to the sisters?
