I find it weird that even though we have advanced in technology and sciences so much in the last 200 years, it's still hard, time-consuming (and/or very expensive) to have very clear, nicely cut ice. It's just frozen water yet we still struggle with something so simple. I just find it interesting to be honest.

It's not weird. Don't get me wrong, i love clear ice as much as the next amateur bartender, but 99.9% of people don't give a crap, so why would anyone care about researching it?

I just got several of those Styrofoam clear ice ball makers, make up a few rounds at a time and store them in a Ziploc bag in the deep freeze. But, yes, I would love to have an automatic icemaker that would make CLEAR SHAPES, doesn’t have to be cubes, about the size of a baby fist, AUTOMATICALLY, amd dump them into a -15°F storage box.

I've become the family bartender when gatherings happen at my parents house, so I convinced them to get one of these and I highly recommend. Super clear and makes a good amount to entertain a group of 8 for a weekend.

I have a very similar machine at home that my girlfriend bought me for Christmas. Its definitely handy to have around since I don't have anywhere near enough freezer space to freeze a 5 gallon cooler. I just run this thing, and stick bags of it in the freezer. I do want to get a deep freeze and stick it in the other room for making large format ice, but this is nice for now. Its an improvement over buying bags or freezing trays.

This would be a major upgrade over freezer ice for anyone still using that (most people). Especially since you don't really need to keep it out 24/7 and can save batches or just break it out when you're planning on doing some drinking. Would be on-par with bagged ice which is miles better than freezer ice but far from best for anything.

Will the ice stay CLEAR if I make big batches and store them in a plastic bag or a solid container then dump them in my freezer for days or weeks? If not, then sadly I don't think these machines are for me. I don't have enough patience to come turn it on and wait for 6-15 minutes whenever I want to enjoy a drink.
