4 Ways to Remove String and Remove Hair From Office Chair Wheels

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I rescue the wheels from my wife’s office chair so she can roll around the office again. The hair removal / thread removal / string removal was attempted in 4 ways. One or two more successful than the others.
Please comment and let me know how you accomplish this if it’s different that my method. Please let me know how my method using a convection oven or an air fryer worked for you.

I'm a hairstylist and I have been struggling with this for over 25 years. I finally decided to get on KZread and figure out a way to get these wheels apart instead of tediously tweezing all the gunk & hair. This video is a gem! I thought I would share that because I don't have an air fryer I used my NuWave Oven. I set the timer for 3 minutes..and VOILA!

Thank you so much. I was able to do this with a regular oven AND parchment paper at 250° for 10 minutes the first time around. Left the oven on for the rest while I worked on individual ones. 100% effective, I didn’t have to the throw away my wheels!

Thanks for posting. I used the heat idea a little differently. I have a small heat gun with about a 1/2" nozzle. Clamped the casters in the vise upside down and heated just the wheel where it rides on the pin.

Thanks Buddy!. That did the trick. Was a little hard at first. The first 2 wheels wouldn't come off,so I just dug the hair out with a pocket knie, but once I got the hang of it the other 3 popped right off!! Keep making videos. I'll keep an eye out for ya! Norm Savoie

much easier wat use the claw of a hammer you can wedge it down to the wheel spindle then work on ry off by getting it closer the peg that goes up into the chair bottom if it just widens the wheel space you can then work claw under the wheel where the top cover is over the wheel it will pop off easy then just tap spindle to get other wheel out

Just a heads up. After not wanting to subject my wheels to an oven, toaster oven, microwave, air fryer, crock pot, BBQ, deep fryer, Instant Pot, rotisserie, grill, or other fancy cookware, I boiled a kettle full of water, poured it into a pail and dropped the wheels in along with some dish soap. After swishing them around and letting them sit for 10 minutes, I was then able to pry off the wheels, whereas I was not able to do so before.

It would help if so much action wasn't off screen. Not that you need to use heat anyway, these castors just pry apart using 2 screwdrivers so you can clean the gunk. I have just done all 5 on my chair in a lot less than half the time your castor was in the over for

  • @Scatteril

@@Fighter4Street depends on the charir itself . Mine is herman miller it took a lot of effort when with the oven is at 380 degree. The wheels came fine . Its much better than doing it cold because the plastic is going to be stiff and could brake . With heat it will be a bit flexible to work with . So yeah heating it up is much safer . You don't have to go to 350 . just try at 200-250 and work your way up

@@Whatarewefixingtoday lol i can understand that i used a old stew pot filled it about 3/4 of the way with hot water brought it to a good boil dropped them in and waited about 5 mins. didn't want to take any chances of melting * i probably could have went a little more didn't seem to hurt them* used some thongs to get them out took them to the sink pulled on the wheels they came right off .i used some blue marine grease from walmart the cheap stuff. when i put them back together worked like a charm. i got the ideal for this from watching you do them in the air oven. i don't have one of those but it got me to thinking that all that was happening was it was heating the plastic up. so thanks for heading me in the right direction .
