4 Ways to Conceal/Hide A Hair Transplant!

Welcome to my channel hairliciously. I've been getting a lot of emails lately asking me how I was able to hide or conceal my hair transplant. The number 1 thing that is most stressful about a hair transplant is the procedure itself. The 2nd most stressful thing after a hair transplant is trying to cover it up so that people around you won’t know that you had one done.
1. Take time off! I would advise anyone who has had a HT to take at least 2-3 weeks off to let everything heal. During the first 2 weeks, you really don’t want to do anything that may cause the implanted hairs to fall out. Based on a study done, it takes about 2 weeks for the hair grafts to be implanted permanently. Taking time off will also allow the donor and recipient areas to heal as well as the scabs to fall off. The first week is probably the most hardest part since you won’t be able to get a good night’s sleep. In my case, I was paranoid of rolling over and damaging my grafts while sleeping. And since there are open wounds the first few days, I really couldn’t get a good nights sleep anyway. So, take some time off, let everything settle in and give your scalp a chance to heal
2. Wear a hat or beanie! As you guys are aware, I had my FUE hair transplant done in Korea last Nov. and had 1700 grafts implanted into the frontal portion. Some people say that you can go to work the following day after a HT, but based on my experience, I would advise that you take at least 2 weeks before going back to work. The back of the scalp (donor area) does a great job of healing itself due to its immense blood supply so 2 weeks should be enough to completely the donor area. As you can see in the pictures, this is about 2 weeks post op and you can barely notice anything in the donor area. The recipient area will be red for a while, in my case it was about 3 months (it all depends how well you heal), so I simply wore a beanie to work. Luckily, I work in an office setting where work attire is pretty lax, so I simply got a doctor’s note indicating I had to wear a beanie due to a medical issue. This was also during the wintertime, so not a lot of people questioned me when I wore a beanie. But from my experience, a beanie or a hat is the best way to conceal a hair transplant.
3. Grow out your hair a few months prior to your HT! While there is nothing you can do about the donor area as the doctor will shave it down to a 0 or 1 clipper to extract the grafts, you can grow out the frontal portion of your hair, esp. if you are getting work done to the hairline, to cover it up. Like I mentioned, take at least 2 weeks off to let the donor area heal a bit. You can try rocking a hair style where you can shave the sides and the back while growing the frontal portion to cover up the hair transplant. Now if you also get your temporal angles rebuilt, it may be a bit harder to conceal since it’s going to stick out. Since most of my viewers probably aren’t suffering from severe hair loss, this is probably their 2nd best option.
4. Use a concealer to hide your hair transplant (esp. the redness). Nowadays, there are a lot of good products that can be used to conceal your hair transplant. A good product to use is Dermatch. Dermatch is a powdered formula that contains botanical ingredients and can be used after the scabs have come off. The company claims that it does not block the hair follicles when used. It comes in 8 bendable colors and can match your surrounding hair. However, always consult with your hair transplant doctor before using any type of cosmetic products after your procedure.

Products I am using to supplement my FUE hair transplant:
1. Finasteride 1mg/day (generic brand for Propecia/Proscar) - Finasteride is approved by the FDA for male pattern baldness and is effective in slowing hair loss for men. - STOPPED AS OF 4/10/2017
2. Biotin 10,000mcg/day - Biotin is effective in thickening hair, nails, and beautifying the skin. I've noticed thicker and stronger hair after using Biotin for the past few months.
3. Vitamin D 3,000IU/day - Vitamin D helps maintain a healthy body
4. Minoxidil (Rogaine) - Minoxidil slows hair loss progression and promotes hair regrowth. I've noticed that using Minoxidil helped me grow my transplanted hairs a lot more quicker
5. Pumpkin Seed Oil 1000 mg

Hi man, I'm glad of having found your channel, I'm thankful for the all the info you provide here; just a quick question in my case I'm planning to get my HT in an overseas country so I will have to travel by plane, after getting my surgery I will have to fly back home, so I'm thinking of covering it with a hat, my receding pattern is similar to yours, so I wanted to know based on your experience if traveling with a hat on, after few days from the operation, is bearable?, or in any case after how many days you were able to wear a hat without the concern of damaging any follicle? Thanks heaps man

Hey man. Really appreciate the videos. Ive been fighting hair loss for about 7 years but recently its getting really bad. I have general thinning all over the top. Very see through. Some people can sport that look but for me its terrible. Rogaine bought me years in the beginning but seems to lost steam. I'm almost two months into finasteride and hoping this will buy me more time but i dread the potential side effects. I feel like its already messing with my sleep some and maybe making slightly more emotional but i can deal with it for now. Im eager to see the results in 6-12 months but already planning for a hair transplant so all your videos have been tremendously helpful and makes me feel better about it. Im hoping to avoid it if the finasteride works out sufficiently. I also use Cabooki and thats works really well for me and I dont mind using it so i don't need to have absolute fullness. Its the only thing hiding my hair loss right now. Hair loss sucks. Thanks again.

Kej Kejrol hair transplantation has really come a long way and if you go to a reputable doctor, its almost impossible to notice that a person has had one done. My girlfriend knows about but I wouldn't go around telling girls I had one done. I would wait until they would notice lol but nobody noticed I got a hair transplant done so the doctor did a good job!

Yeah but I hate hiding something, because when we do it that it means hair transplant is something shameful, but in its essence it isn't. How did you tell you girlfriend about it? Was it before or after HT? What about people who knows and recognize before your HT? They should notice.

Hey! im using Rogaine (minoxidil) just once a night because my hair is thinning on the hairline on the sides, but I think the minoxidil only made it a bit worse (can't confirm because apparently there's a 'shedding stage" and iv been using it for a month) My question is; After your hair transplant are you still going to use minoxidil and is it essential? Because if I get my hairline corrected I don't want to use Rogaine or anything every again. Thanks :D

  • @hairliciously

    @hairliciously

    7 жыл бұрын

Some people shed when using minoxidil and then regrow the hairs back. I'm using it to speed up the growth on my hair transplanted area. The recipient area is DHT-resistant so the hairs will grow back. You really don't have to use minoxidil on the areas you received your hair transplant since they are going to grow and be permanent. Hope this helped!
