BESTEN DANK! Tip #4 would've saved me in college. I was always perplexed by first, second, last then having a verb like five words in. Having the whole clause count as 1 word tied the bow in mind that I needed to grasp this. Tip #2 is going to greatly increase my reading comprehension since I don't struggle much with the SVO endings, but the seemingly-perplexing order always threw me off. Those two tips solved 2 of the biggest enigmas surrounding my German development!

Very interesting complex grammar rule that one where there we have to identify the sentence phrase and the verb position, yeah the second version of the very same sentence doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'm here quite following your teachings of German's grammar. Gracias y saludos...

That's the most confusing part of Deutsche grammar für mich, i can't understand how it really works. Seems a lot different from the Passive Voice we use in English. Do you have any other videos on this particular subject? ❤ Loved your channel btw.

If the meaning is the same what is the need to change the position of the noun or verb

The purpose of having that flexibility of position is to give emphasis. They don’t use vocal inflection to emphasize points but rather emphasis is placed based on the position in a sentence. Hope this helps! -Nicole, GwL Team
Hey could you please help me out with this sentence? "Als der Sänger dann in Sarahs Wohnzimmer den ersten Ton sang, bekam ich eine Gänsehaut." Why is denn used in a wierd position in this sentence? I'm soo confused when I read this on an essay.

Hey Anna, So 'denn' isn't actually being used in this sentence. But I can tell you about the 'den' or 'dann.' den - the (it is being used with the masculine/accusative noun Ton) dann - this is a time adverbial indicating that the speaker got goosebumps specifically after the singer began singing. There's a lot more to discuss with the layout of the sentence itself, but that's too much for a youtube comment. I discuss sentence structure in-depth in my secondary course! WOW, very well explained, I don't quite get it, but I am only a couple weeks into duo-lingo German and been getting more and more German recommendations on the old youtubes here and thought I'd watch for some tips on reading the sentences... I will try not to get discouraged at just how boggled my mind was during this video and march forward. I imagine that as I go I will gradually learn the ins and outs of the German language, key is to not skip ahead as that will terrify myself and slowly whittle down my motivation and confidence. It probably doesn't help that I am also studying Japanese and Hawaiian at the same time.

You must love languages to be learning three at once! While other languages make learning vocabulary first easy, German is not one of them. My best recommendation is to spend time learning German grammar for the most success!
In tip nr 1 the second version means the same, but its used to shift the focus on another subject, here the car. F.ex: _Sein _*_Auto_*_ bringt der Mann zum Mechaniker, aber den Kühlschrank repariert er selbst._ Oder: _Er baut Raketen, aber sein _*_Auto_*_ bringt der Mann zum Mechaniker_ There is a certain context missing if it stands alone.

Absolutely! You're spot on. I was trying to keep the sentence as simple as possible, but it would definitely be a more complete sentence with the added information when the car is being emphasized.

@@GermanwithLaura thanks! Enjoyed your lesson just for the fun of it! As a German I find it quite a challenge to write proper text - I overlook it dozens of times before I finish! If I alter a phrase, all the other words involved have to get corrected too... lots of mistakes possible.... Sometimes if it becomes more complex, I have to check every single letter to be sure its the right grammar.... As of speaking, there are so many little words that emphasize a matter or defuse it - (entschärfen) can't translate into other languages!

That is quite the hairstyle, Laura!
Just like Turkish: 1) Kahve almaya gidiyorum (verb). 2) Gidiyorum (verb) kahve almaya. (We call such sentences "inverted sentences".)
But what is the easiest way to learn deutsch because whenever I pay tention when am learning I just follow asleep why 😢😢😢😢 and I understand some times because it's online but thanks for the video I always catch up with your lessons some days

I refer to only the form, why they place it there, still eludes me?but why care?
If you take the sentence "Das Auto bringt die Frau zum Mechaniker." How would you know what's the subject if you don't have to put the subject first?

Great question! The majority of time, the declensions will be your biggest clue. In situations like this one, where the declensions could be either the nominative or accusative slot, we would rely on context. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense to say that the car is bringing the woman to the mechanic, so we can have a decent guess that it is the woman who is the subject. I am German, maybe I can help you. Ich kaufe dem Mädchen das Eis = I buy the icecreme from somebody and give it to the girl. Ich kaufe dem Mädchen das Eis ab = I buy the icecreme from the girl. The verb abkaufen is a splittable verb, so the prefix ab goes to the end.

Thanks for jumping in, @Tonir299! When we have a separable prefix verb like abkaufen, we will see it separated just like they said. And you could absolutely say, Ich kaufe dem Mädchen das Eis, but it changes the meaning. :-)
