Thanks for the honesty and the humor, this hit home for me. I shot in the 70's after coming home from Nam, shot for 5 years and life got in the way. I'm now 76 and getting back into the sport and your videos and insight have helped me excel faster than I thought I could. Shows us "OLD DOGS" can learn from you "Young Pups". Thank You for all You do. Rich

Hi Jake, Thanks for making this video. I have shot archery without any system for 6 decades. This last winter, my local pro told me to write down my shot cycle. It was a short list, draw, aim, let it go. Never thought it could become more than that. Revised my shot cycle with his help, your help, John Demmer's and friends in our barebow league. Really have been working on 11 steps, breaking each one down each and every shot. Your Patreon channel has been so helpful, I watch and rewatch your videos so I can unstandstand why I am doing what I should be doing. Your videos and tutoring from my pro Scott Turner have really helped make me a better archer. I have a plan, I have a shoot cycle, I tweak it, work on it and I can say 110% for the first time in my Archery life, I can shoot a bow with confidence and decent form. Results are getting better all the time. You are dead on point with the time it takes. Our brains are programed to do routines good or bad. To change an ingrained bad habit takes a lot of time and effort to override years of what you have always been doing. Thank you for your barebow videos and the rest of your material. It is like learning a new language, it takes time. But when it comes all together, those shots are golden. I have more golden shots now. Rick Mansberger Guns and Bows Archery Club Morrice, Michigan

Thanks for commenting on the need to invest time. It is so true, nothing good comes easy. To replace a bad habit with a good one takes a lot of effort. You just described my exact situation at the beginning of the video. I get ready to anchor with the purpose of cleaning my relase and it is like INSTANT AMNESIA! i release and i repeat the old (bad) form as if I did not have a plan in mind... it is frustraring because it is just a few seconds between anchoring with the purpose of a clean release and suddenly doing the same old thing. It takes a ton of concentration to ingrain a new habit. Your idea of using a lighter bow is good, I am going to put my frist bow (25 #'s) back in service as a training tool. Thnalks for the video... it is very timely for me. Octavio

Having watched almost everything youve made.. I can say I love how your 'weird' brain works. Your attention to detail and determination is certainly an inspiration to me and I know, a lot of others as well. Great video Jake.. one of the best. Your ability to explain mechanical processes and body awareness is really very unusual. We are very lucky to have you.

When I was in college we had a 3 pound bow. It was very good for showing form because it could be held at full draw without any chance of fatigue. We had an 18M indoor range and one time we were playing with the bow trying to get it to shoot an arrow the full 18M without the trajectory hitting the ceiling.

Rewatching this one is well worth it... I'm an old.....ish dog 🤣 and using this with the honest commentary and knowing I'm not the only one with a brain that doesn't work in the strictly normal sense is beyond helpful. Thank you Jake.

"It took far too many shots than I am willing to tell you." *5 minutes later* ... "took me from 2006 to 2010 shooting on average 350 arrows, 6 days a week, to get back to where I was when I first showed up to make form changes." I'm just poking fun because I thought this was funny. Thanks a lot for the videos! I'm a new archer who wants to be the best I can be with the time I am willing and able to put in. This will be an exciting journey, I think!

Jake, thanks again for another honest take on the process and work involved. Especially for a 59 year old who shot for many years with the "9 steps" method and am now rebuilding old habits. And yes, when I started shooting seriously in 1996, everything *was* a secret and you did have to pay to play. Thanks for pulling back the curtain.... This is why I love your channel and am a Patreon.

Jake, I can’t thank you enough for you selfless contribution to the Archery community. I am a 5-month “newbie” and you videos have made my exciting journey more manageable. Like you, I am a perfectionist - which makes any new undertaking brutal. I’m a north Florida resident, and look forward to a personal lesson someday… when my fundamentals are hopefully more in hand.

Hey I was watching one of your of your grip building videos, I have a Hoyt Satori and cut the grip down for a low grip. Apparently I was tourqing the bow because my point on was reduced, string quit hitting arm, and I can see arrows flying better. May be in my head but low grip feels way more controllable. Thanks man!

Hi Jake, As a very new archer I have a noob question. When you shoot a bare shaft do you add weight to the tip to allow for the lose of weight with the missing vanes 🤔. Just asking as I don't know the answer. Cheers John from Australia.

The riser in the background looks familiar. This seems to be the one you shot in the 2012 World Field Championships. It looked like a tough match for you. It would be interesting to hear some commentary from you on past tournaments. Congrats on your finish. kzread.info/dash/bejne/naipt5dxqr2aiqQ.html

It was the one I shot in the London Games. I wasn’t sure if I shot it in France or the backup bow that looks the same but was this one’s backup. The stars and such aren’t in the same places so it would be relatively easy to spot.
