I was approved for SSDI when I was 55 and never had a disability review. When I was 65 I received a letter from Social Security saying I was totally and permanently disabled.

PTD.. permanent total disability.. Me too. I'm going out in July.. I have been on Workers Comp 15 years and SSD for 10 years.. I was spied on followed and turned down for everything I ask for.. Had to go to court every time.. Jump through so many hoops.. Once I was PTD.. It stopped.. No one bothered me again.. No reviews .. Now its time for SSR.. That's it.. Now the settlement ....

I was approved for disability last year. The entire process took about 7 weeks. I have heart disease and COPD. I was so glad I didn’t need a lawyer. They pay back for 12 months. That was a nice check. Prior to applying I lost my job and house was in foreclosure. I was able to sell it before foreclosure went through. I really miss having my house.

I applied in 1991 and was denied because ss did not accept military or veteran's medical records as proof of disability. In fact it was not till the early 2000's a judge ordered ss to accept them and then vets were allowed to reapply, and even then it took more than 2 years till a judge ruled summarily in my favor after about 5 minutes of telling my story in court. But we were only back paid to the date we reapplied. I think the reason they have never requested a review is that an administrative law judge ordered them to put me on disability, they had denied me a number of times from about 1991 and would not accept my VA or military medical records as proof of disability, until a judge ordered the ssa so we veterans could all reapply. But they just denied me anyway and so I got a lawyer and he got an appeal, it took years, but the judged asked me to tell my story in my own words and about 5 minutes into the story she gaveled the case to a halt and found summarily in my favor, she said she had never heard such an egregious denial of benefits in all her time on the bench. And she looked right at the SS reps when she said that.

It took me 5 months to get my disability. Thank goodness they approved me. I didn’t get any back payments. My son was supporting me along with his own household. I couldn’t work and was in a wheelchair. I had to have both hips replaced, and the ball of one hip had completely Disintegrated. I was out of work for 10 months. I went back to work part time. Then covid hit and all of us were laid off. I had fallen a couple of times and now I need to have my knees replaced and the one hip done again. Getting old isn’t for sissy’s! I’m just thankful I wasn’t denied my benefits.

I receive paperwork every 4 years. I have my portion and my Dr gets one to fill out as well. So far everything is good but I am going to monthly appointments, get treatment every 3-4 months and am on pain medication. Believe me I would rather be healthy and able to work. A bad back\spinal issues is far from fun. I like the idea of trying to grow instead of stagnate mentally. I still try to garden although what would normally take me 2 hours total takes me 3 weeks (done in increments) it’s my seasonal hobby. The hardest part is bending over and pulling weeds; thinking of paying my grandchildren $10 to help me out from now on with that part. Learning to improvise.

Tell me about it. I tried to clean bindweed out of my jasmine vines. I got about a third done on my butt and look like a rabid dog attacked me. Lol. I traded all my high maintenance annuals for colorful leaves and perennials. I've gardened all my life, I love it, but I am wiped within an hour. On my butt! I had COVID and I think it did something. I love watching history documentaries on KZread! In my day, ( oh, here she goes again) it would've taken me days, maybe weeks, of research to find what takes seconds today. You can access all human knowledge on your phone! AMAZING! I love Google. Any weird anything that to crosses my mind I can just look up. Ppl don't appreciate it, don't use it to learn, but would rather take picture of their lunch and post it to social media. What happened to us?? If you're old you won't be surprised to fing IQs have dropped 20+ points since the 70's. Thats the difference between a functional human and a dog. And in many cases, I'd go with the dog! 😂

karen, x the unknown, athanasia, & gail- wow,,,, i thought i was alone, i identify with all of you, i have degenerative disc disease, spine fully covered with arthritis, 5 bad bulging and degenerated discs in lower spine, 1 mid spine, and 2 in neck, low thyroid, long term breathing issues due to that c sickness which made my asthma worse making me depend on asthma meds daily instead of seasonally, and depression. my energy levels are poor, i get spurts, then goes away about 4-5 hrs later, if i do a chore or task, it takes me forever to do unlike what time i use to could do it, wears me out, have to lay down a while to rest up, maybe rebuild energy but sometimes it doesn't rebuild, i can't do more than one or two things in a days time, it's very frustrating at only 54yrs old, just 4 yrs ago, i was still on top of everything, now,,,, horrible, and with all of this inflation groceries are my #1 killer, i would like to get help with ebt but they say i make too much, then again, i think they need to update their parameters for ebt due to current inflation and it is not going away and the prices won't be coming down so,,,,. i'm also looking into scaling down to a lesser place to live, it's getting harder to keep up with a house and yard, thinking about 55+ community but the ones i have looked at are too pricey for me. anyway, i feel like i am stuck and geting worse. thanks for all your inputs, made me feel a lil better.

Reviews depend on why you're on your disability. I went on disability after a catastrphic hit from MS. One day I went to work at 7am perfectly fine and by 10am, I was in the ER never to return to work again. That was 2007. My disability automatically switched over to retirement in 2017. My disability was a no brainer for the SSA and for the ten years I was on full disability, they never contacted me for any review.

I’m on SSDI and I’ve never been reviewed, and that’s also the same thing when I was on SSI. Maybe I had never been reviewed because my disability happened before the age of 2. I was working back in 2017 and I could earn as much as I wanted because it wasn’t considered a full tax year when I started in Sep. When it came to Apr. 2018, it was the starting of a full tax year and I could earn only $1,220 a month. I didn’t know anything about that, so I ended up earning over $2,200 that month and my disability was taken away from me and I had to hire an advocate to get my disability back. What I did wrong is I went to a re-evaluation appointment that they had set up for me. It was like I was getting on SSI again, so I didn’t get the whole benefit amount I should have gotten. If I had gone to the advocate first, he would have gotten me back on the SSDI and everything would have been fine from day 1. Instead I had to go for like 2 years without my SSDI and go on living on just what I got paid at work. Thank god I was able to live with my mother in order to make ends meet money wise. Now I can earn up to $1,300 per month. They better raise that amount when they increase the minimum wage.

Certain disabilites are not reviewed because they are not treatable or curable. Some of the illness are surprising that SSA does not "consider" as a incapacitating disability would surprise most people. Heart disease is not considered to be a disability to SSA. Also, the side effects of some medications would qualify for a disability to SSA but the illness ITSELF may not be approved. Also, one of the main reasons gir periodic review is that, as the years progress, there are new medications, treatments or surgeries that can greatly improve a person's ability to work. So that is the main reason for the reviews, to see if a person is no longer 100% unable to work.

@@troymiller9619 , yes but they won't, their goal is to do everything possible so that we gradually "disappear." This is the 21st Century form of "eugenics" to eradicate the "least profitable," to the elite. Poor people and people over age 55 are the least value and the cost to keep us alive far outweigh what profits they can gain from us. Therefore, people over 55 are a "waste," of time and money. They deliberately use outdated stats and unconventional numbers to decide the national poverty index vs the national rate of inflation. The SSA and also the food stamps program and Medicaid eligibility maximum income levels. They do this to make it nearly impossible to qualify for assistance. You would have to be NEARLY homeless to qualify. Most of the people who do qualify live with their parents or grandparents. As we age, WE DON'T HAVE parents nor grandparents to help us with housing arrangements. That is ONE REASON (NOT ALL HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE DRUG ADDICTS) why you see so many gray haired people SLEEPING on the streets and in their old car ! Make no mistake, this is all by design ! Most people over age 55 were working as young adults in the 1980s, 90s. That was the beginning of the END of PRIVATE EMPLOYER PENSION PLANS ! Also the BEGINNING of the EVIL "independent contractor" practice by major corporations. The main objective of this practice, was to destroy unions and to deny pension plans and medical care to these independent workers. Gradually, over time unions became impotent or non existent, and pension plans as well as medical benefits became extremely rare. If you worked in any civil service occupation, you were spared of this wicked practice. But keep in mind, the entire society cannot work for the govt. EXCEPT in Cuba, Venezuela or North Korea, and THAT is exactly what their goal is, FOR THE MASSES. BUT THEY WILL KEEP CAPITALISM FOR THEMSELVES ! Bernie Sanders, Ca Gov Gavin Newsome, Nancy Pelosi, Hollywood celebrities, and the entire marxist elite, will PRESERVE CAPITALISM FOR THEMSELVES. @THE GREAT RESET.NAZISM. WE SAW THEIR DOUBLE STANDARDS DURING THE MASK MANDATES AND THE LOCKDOWNS ! They made THEMSELVES EXEMPT ! They also passed an ordinance where all film companies were EXEMPT from the lockdowns ! Yes they DID !

I took up gardening, did a 100 by 100 garden two years in a row. I learned a lot about how to be a successful gardener. We had an apiary close around. I would hit the garden an hour before sun up. as soon as I saw the bees, I left. Came back a few hours later. I had the best garden ever. after 2 years, I went to my doctor and we talked about what I was doing, I passed the stress test as if I was a healthy man. I went back into trucking for 4 more years, then retired. I "play" on my computer, and am getting back into film photography with a eye toward selling photographs after I work with them in Photoshop or some other photo editing program.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I just subscribed to your channel. Firstly, about the $170 part B. Medicare recipients should check with their state Medicaid…it may pay the premium. Because I just left an abusive husband, my SSD isn’t going to be much to live on, so I got that straight from a Social Security’ clerk. I have MS. Years back, I tried to work as my husband’s secretary to see if I might be able to work myself back to RN. I made little money, but as soon as my SS# was recorded by HR, I got a full review, even though I notified Social Security beforehand. My husband fired me for being undependable, but at leaast I tried? Passed the review, thank goodness. You mentioned trying to stay active; that has been a struggle for me. I have secondary progressive MS, fall frequently, and am in so much pain, even though I’m on a ton of meds. The “opiod crisis” has ruined so many lives. CDC lumped us in with heroin addicts. My quality of life has taken a nose dive (as I know others on here are dealing with the same thing) because of this BS. Any advice, or is that going to be a permanent situation? When I am feeling somewhat decent, I do crochet, and love painting Mason jars (hoping to make both a side business). Don’t mean to complain so much. Staying with my daughter temporarily, anad she has no clue about MS. I’m just lazy to her. Can’t wait to move out! Millennials…ugh!😂

Don't go over the 9 months your allowed to work within 60 consecutive months or yes you will lose all your benefits. But they will wait until you owe them a huge overpayment before they tell you to repay it all. Seen it happen to many times. If you're a person that needs the insurance be aware no employer will offer you coverage that's enough. You'll only be losing your income to return to work with every risk. But yes you can keep most of not all your disability while working these 9 months. You only lose your SSI because that's what you pay into taxes, so if you return to work you lose that. If you don't report every dollar you earn, your already going to get hit with their rules you broke. SSA denies every claim at the moment. So your waiting 6 months just to be denied, then you appeal it which takes another 6 months, almost 96% of appeals are denied making you appeal to a hearing which takes 6 more months. But if you read the SSA website, isn't it really weird that they talk about benefits they owe to people..... only if they are still living. You live in the worst country. The US will send billions to help other countries with food and shelter but our own Americans are homeless and hungry? At the same time you all voted for this, and one day when you can't work either and you must rely on help, it won't be there since Americans are even tired of supporting those that need help. But we pay sports athletes millions? Lol what a joke!

I just got approved for disability back in September, it only took 5 months which shocked me, because other people had told me it took them two years or more to get theirs. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it came along with a bad case of Neuropathy. When it first started, it wasn't so bad, but now two years later I can barely walk. I got lucky during the approval process. The last interview I had over the phone had to do with the job I'd had prior to becoming disabled. The woman I spoke to just happened to have worked the exact same job elsewhere in the country years ago, so she was able to fill out all the questions for me herself. I don't know how long it'll be till I have to be recertified, but I don't expect anything to change between now and then except maybe my Neuropathy getting worse.

Richard I can understand how you feel my world fell apart in 2019 I've been very active working as a service writer keeping cars moving and staff because I was a closer and manager s left at 4 shop was open till 7. I have type 2 diabetes had been asking for years why am I putting on weight nobody could answer me they told me I was an exercising enough and I'm like do you see what I do for a job then they blame it on that I was eating too much cake cookies and ice cream do you see what I eat in a day I eat healthier than most people. beginning of the year went to the doctor for my yearly physical I asked her what I thought was a stupid question which led to an ultrasound then to a biopsy then my butt in surgery two weeks later with a total over hysterectomy and lymph nodes removed because they found cancer came back from that working my job again so I went back to work in April October rolls around I've been having all these issues over the summer breathing not feeling well been sent over to liver specialist they pulled me off of some of my meds that I was taking couldn't have any steroids things seem to be going okay close down the shop on a Sunday came home 4 days off 3 days off sorry got in the shower Thursday morning got halfway done with my shower my back locked up that's all I could do was to get the soap off my head and out of my eyes and from there it went downhill we're two years later and I'm lucky I can stand 5 minutes 10 at the very most and if you have me stand 10 minutes you better have me with a walker a cane a wall something and you better be getting me a chair because I will be in tears cuz my back can't take it I got three bulging discs I've got deterioration in my back I have not osteoporosis the one right before it I have a vitamin D deficiency they found that I have bone deficiency we've just pulled me off of the high dose of vitamin D to see how I react through the summer so we can try to dial me in better the endocrinologist is she keeps on putting me on more insulin and I'm fighting her and I just got my disability in June of last year I'm just thankful for where I live that the landlord is able to do things for me but trying to keep motivated and doing stuff it's really hard my biggest issue is getting some kind of help here at home to help me clean up a little bit more so things aren't so much cluttered so I can get things up off of the floor I can't get the dustpan to do it and some of the stuff is too big for the vacuum cleaner or if I suck it up in the vacuum cleaner it'll ruin it. so if anybody's got any ideas on how to get some help I talked to the state prior to the pandemic and because I can wash myself and dress myself with the exception of my socks I haven't been able to put socks on for 2 years last time I had socks on I hit have my neighbor put them on. I have to be really careful when I do grocery shopping I have a walker that I figured out how to put my groceries in but if I weigh down the Walker I have two steps I got to get up and I can't get the locker up those two steps cuz can't pick him up can't take the Walker up two steps and if I do manage to get it up by the time I get it up to the top stop I'm shaking like tourette's and I'm shaking everything I shake stuff right out of the Walker. my one neighbor and it realize she was behind me the one day when I struggled getting the Walker up the two steps she thought I was having a seizure. supposably I won't have a review all right so this June will be one year so I have another 3 years so I'll be 58 by the time they go to review me again and we're still trying to do everything humanly possible to keep me going I can still drive but I don't go out unless I have things to do I make a list if I have a doctor's appointment I check my list and see do I need anything from the grocery store do I need to go to the mailbox do I need to go to the pharmacy any kind of errand that I need to run I run it the day I go out to the doctors because usually once I've gone to the doctors and done all my errands the next day I'm flat on my back. okay now I'm getting on a soapbox sorry but there's people out there that look at some of us and say oh there's nothing wrong with you okay step into my shoes and see what a life is like in my shoes where you can't pick stuff up off the floor or I have a dishwasher I have problems loading and unloading the lower rack because if it's too heavy I can't pick it up and if I manage to get it picked up and put on the stove then I might be able to get the dishwasher unloaded but that'll be it for the day I see a chiropractor to help me loosen up things I have an issue with my one hip when I first started going to the chiropractor I had one foot longer than the other and then they noticed that my hips weren't quite squared so we're having to retrain muscles the only thing that's good about the chiropractor besides the fact it's a slow process it is helping a little bit here and there sometimes it causes other issues but Medicare helps cover chiropractors I don't know too many of the other plans that would I've heard horror stories about using the other plants I'm also qualified for Medicaid I have to find out what they cover because so far every time we've tried to send through my meds through them they're not covering it so I have no idea what's going on that's why I haven't gone to any other plans because I do have Medicaid and Medicare Medicare being the primary but I got to find out what Medicaid's going to cover for me are they going to still cover my eye exams every year and my dentals cuz they don't have to buy glasses for me I wear cheaters I usually tell the the eye doctor what prescription I'm on and he just verifies that yeah I'm using the right one. all right I'm done whoever's made it this far thank you for listening or reading. anybody have any extra that they want to add or any help anywhere that they can think of I live in Illinois. would like to live somewhere else but my family is here. and with what I pay for housing right now for small one-bedroom apartment I don't think I can get it anywhere else so I'm kind of stuck.

I am also so grateful to have found your website. On the other hand I am now terrified panic attack stage.Firstly, I need to say I am Grateful to god and to everyone who kept me on point and alive during my process. I Have kept up with my Dr, but have skipped large blocks of time like 6 months at a time. She was demanding that I show up once a week and I have been with this Dr for 9 yrs now. It was becoming retrograde therapy It felt like. I don't know anyone who would look forward to being yelled at like a drill sergeant once a week and this came out of nowhere. Well, I fought SSDI for 7 of those 9 yrs and were talking 2 federal appeals type material. The appeal process almost killed me. The fact that I was forced to appear in front of the same judge twice (most of us had to Im learning) while being denied, and unfortunately caught a biased, belligerent judge that made no bones about what he thought of my condition and the fact that I took this to the high court twice. I eventually was granted full bench decision and had to be carried out of the courtroom. I really can't thank you enough for this information and WAKING ME UP ...I do feel like I am going deeper into depression and some sort of black hole. Losing my father last year completely destroyed me as well. After reading some of the comments Im absolutely terrified. I thank you all for each and every comment of advise .....So grateful........

God didn’t give you a spirit of fear, so do not receive in and give it a guestroom in your home. Cast ALL your cares onto the Lord, all of them, and don’t snatch them back out of his hands. Then he can’t hold them, can he? Walk by faith and not by sight. You aren’t in the kingdom of man, but the kingdom of God, so be careful not to agree to live under that contract. You don’t want to be subject to that kingdom, do you? Don’t go there. Stay in the kingdom of God. And try reading Psalm 91 waking and just before sleep every day, plus any time you feel anxious until it really hits you that he means it. If you dwell in the secret place and not go putting fearful things into your eyes and ears, you’ll stay under his wing, in the fortress. And it’s a very good place to be. Also, read the scriptures where it reminds you that God smites your enemies for you. You don’t have to do a thing. But don’t go watching the news, and living in the kingdom of man and putting world concerns into your spirit. Stay under the protection of God, and let him be your fortress. 💕

So, just spend your time instead thanking him with your mouth (the power of life and death, blessing and cursing, are in the tongue, so only speak what you want to see and not one peep of what you don’t want to see, no matter HOW scary it looks). Make a long thank you list and really talk to God about every thing on it, and that will keep your spirit in the right place. Forgiveness and thanksgiving have to come before requests. Of course, because even we want to see gratitude for our efforts. We are made in his image, so it makes sense. And you did that with your comment, you did express a fear, but quickly gave God credit right off, even said it came first. You’ve got this. Focus on what he’s done, and thank him ahead of time that you have the victory here, because if God is for YOU, who can possibly be against you? I’ll be your second in agreement that you shall prevail and the victory is yours. God sends an angel before you, sometimes a huge posse of them.

To originally get disability, I went through all the appeals to the FINAL appeal. I looked into a lawyer, but the one I went to was a jerk. 1. He wanted me to go "upstairs" to the 2nd floor (no elevator) even though I was disabled partly due to a degenerative disease in my knees. 2. He told me he wouldn't take my case because he didn't think I could win. So I went to the meeting alone. The Administrative Law Judge was awesome. I was approved. Didn't have to give anyone a share of my back paid money.

Wages are high right now and it is a good time to try re-entering the work system. LEARN COMPUTERS - nearly every job requires computer use. Learn Spanish - #2 language in this country. Wages are even higher for multi-lingual people. Eat right. Exercise. You’ll be happier if you work to get better. Your body and mind will thank you.

I started my VA disability in 2005 and had it flat out denied 9 times. When you send them a NOD (notice of disagreement) you have exactly 1 year from the date of the denial to get that in. In addition, you must provide new, non cumulative evidence to support your claim. What they don't tell you is a LOT. For example, once you have been denied, the onus is on you to prove that they should have approved you based on their rules. I did my VA disability all on my own. To do it again I would have hired an attorney as it took from 2005 to 2014 before I won my disability. HOWEVER, I learned so much in those 9 years that I feel what I lost in the process was worth the education. Yes, I lost my house, my vehicle and had to pawn everything I had of value. I was on the courthouse steps as they sold my house only to have the VA approve my war pension exactly 1 month later. And actually,it was only a couple weeks. So, they approved my pension only after they took my house that I bought with a VA loan. And you have to pay that back in full before you can use it again. In my case that was $84,000. I had a cousin living with me then as he could not live by himself anymore. He just needed help with getting around, keeping his bank account and making sure his bills got paid. At 45 years old he had a massive seizure and fell down 2 flights of stairs and got a TBI. So, we were on the street and ended up in the most crime infested, drug infested trailer park in the commonwealth of Virginia. Our first weekend there we had 2 guys running through the backyard shooting at each other !! When I got the mail I always had my .357 on me. That was 6 years of hell. Now I live in a new house in a very quiet part of the state and I am very happy. I started my SSDI paperwork in 2009 by myself. It took about 3 years before I got the denial and then immediately hired an attorney at that point because even though they are both disability programs, each program is COMPLETELY different and I just didn't have the energy to work 2 at once. BUT I was able to use one for the other. The VA pays out disability as a percentage. Anywhere from 10% to 100% and it must be service related. The VA has a rule where if you are at least 60% service connected but cannot work, then you can qualify for what they call induvidual unemployability. While waiting on my service connected claim, I was able to apply for a war pension, as that is a needs based program if you are destitute. It pays the same as a 50% service connected rating. Or about $1,400/ month. You must get your doctor to fill it out, state that you cannot work and send in your dd214 (discharge paperwork) to prove you served in a theater of war. I had 2 doctors fill it out and was approved right away. Now, when I started my service connected claim, I also applied for individual unemployability. Therefore, if I was approved, I would automatically get that benefit as well. Because I had already proven that my VA doctors said I could not work. So, for example, if you are rated at 70% you would be getting around $1,700/ month. However, with that added benefit, you are paid at the 100% level. And currently that is a little over $3300/ month.A big difference. Now, even though SSDI and the VA are 2 different programs with 2 different sets of rules, all my care was coming from the VA. And since 2 of my docs had already said I couldn't work, when I got in front of the law judge at my hearing, that was a HUGE factor in my getting approved. I got both approved about 2 months apart, so I was also getting back pay under both programs for about 5 years. For my SSDI that was around $27,000 and my VA backpay was roughly $38,000. I actually teared up when I saw that in my account. I had won and paying bills online was how I found out. This is the first time I have seen this guy. And let me tell you, he knows his shit. It is real simple, learn the rules and follow them and you should not have any issues. Stay busy. I became a genealogist. I have always been a history buff so this is right up my alley. I also read a LOT. I have 3 books going right now as a matter of fact. Stay busy. Get a hobby. Or get 3 or 4. Enjoy your retirement, but stay up on all your medical appointments. Otherwise they WILL ask the obvious question. If this guy isn't going to his medical appointments, is he really disabled?? Lets say you have SSDI for a bad back. Don't do something stupid like falling off your roof cleaning your gutters. They're gonna find out. It is so easy to do the right things. Don't do the wrong or stupid things.

I am coming up for my SSI review later this year... I have been on SSI since 2018. My primary disability is PTSD, but I also have several degenerative medical issues. Since I don't drive, and live alone, I switched clinics/ providers when Covid started... I was riding several buses to get to specialists. I am now with the PACE ( program for all- inclusive care for the elderly) program- they cover vision, dental, pharmacy etc. and give free rides to and from appointments. The problem is they don't have behavioral health - but I do have a social worker and my primary care doctor prescribes me Paxil and Buspar. Prior to 2020 I was also receiving EMDR and talk therapy - since being with PACE, I am not. I am afraid that Social Security will think I am not getting treatment, but I also have cervical stenosis and degenerative disc disease and I am now getting PT, which the other clinic didn't have. I am in Texas. I will be 59 in September. What do you think?

Wow I wish I knew about this channel years ago! I’m 59 wb 60 in July and I believe started receiving benefits in 2018 I’ll have to chk. I was getting 1067 at start then last year I get a letter that they overpaid me and are taking 100 out ea month. In the area I’m in I can’t afford rent and I was lucky and blessed to stay in my moms apt. Long story short had to move in w her a few years ago because she kept falling at home then diagnosed w dementia and she passed away in October of 2020. I went into a very deep depression and to be honest the past year and a half is one big blur. Now I have to move and looking at losing hers and mine possessions. I’ve been going to storage to save what I can and I got the three day notice on the 5th so it’s just a matter of time I’m hoping I have until the 1st week of may before eviction so I can rent a truck and hire a handyman to help me move just the basics of what I’ll need later, bed, table sofa, dressers etc but then I’ll also be homeless. I don’t know what I’m going to do. There are some places I’ll look into next week that can maybe help me but I just don’t know what will happen and I’m really scared.

@@dcg590 SSDI is NOT a handout; with every job, starting as a teenager, where social security is taken out, is an insurance policy in case of disability, and for retirement benefits. SSDI payouts for the disabled aren’t enough to even reach the poverty line. And you’re confusing recipients with “welfare moms,” who’ve never worked a day in their life….they keep spitting out babies for a bigger check. There are a small number of SSDI recipients who take advantage of the system. However, the majority of us are heartbroken that we can’t enjoy our careers, permanently. I have secondary progressive MS, and I dearly miss my nursing career. I put myself through college with no loans or help from anyone. It’s been 21 years since I had to sit down and fill out those papers. I cried the entire time. Because I was severe even back then, my benefits were approved in two months. No one dreams, or hopes they will be disabled, but sometimes you draw the short straw. Instead of calling us lazy, do some research first. Your words were hurtful, and not just to me.

I was born with a congenital birth defect. Had over 130 various types of surgeries and invasive procedures. I worked hard at working higher paying jobs until I just couldn't anymore. I heard someone say that you needed to wait a full year before applying, I waited seven months. They approved me in less than three months and the lady that called me told me that I should have applied the very day that I had to leave my job for medical reasons (I was shocked & pleasantly surprised at the quick approval). I would love to volunteer or work outside the home but, my body just doesn't want to cooperate.

They had to change out the tubes every two to three months. This was all done while working as a property manager. I applied for disability in may 2015, it took till feb of 2018 to get an appointment before the judge. Due to shitty legal representation (lawyer bailed on me 2 weeks before the court date because they felt they could not win...translation there was not going to be a huge pay out so they dropped me). I was able get a 3 months continuance and gather all the documentation the " lawyer" was supposed to have compiled as the doctors sent it in. The advantage of the lawyer screwing me over was that i got to see all the documentation that had been gathered. There was nothing after Jan 2016, all the diagnostic work and final diagnosis was in early 2017. I got my disability, and 4 months later i hit 65 and it converted to retirement. I am still disabled, CPTSD never goes away, but if i want i can work without worrying about loosing any income (unless i get over 50K).

I've been disabled from a spinal cord injury. Applied for adult disability child benefits under the law and rule "disabled prior to age 22". I was approved by ssa and the disability determination service's, then after 7 months my car is sent back to ssa where they denied me saying there is no medical records proving in disabled from 21 years ago. That's funny cause ssa archived my medical records, sent me a copy of my medical records from 21 years ago and they said I have to appeal. Why? I'm eligible under the law. But they are saying I'm not eligible under their rules, and that people get disability from private sources other then social security. So they pretty much saying since they couldn't look for my records, after I put a request in records where found. But I still have to appeal? "Entitlement programs" are not the same as "need based programs". It's excuse after excuse as to why they deny everyone! Look I didn't ask for this disability when I was 17. It happened. Im getting to the point in tired of fighting, and suffering. I'm tired of trying to live life to be told how my life is to be lived. I must say I blame us all! We vote for lawmakers, we elect them just to turn around and complain about the laws the create to feed benefits them but hurts the rest of us. I'm so ashamed to live here are too call myself an American. We can pay athletes hundreds of millions of dollars to play the same sport's kids play in high school, but every NFL team plays for a state or city right? Answer me this, how the hell is it that there are more homeless people with disabilities then the number of fans that could fill a football stadium? Why is the rich getting richer and wealthier but the homeless in increasing at levels never seen before? Pathetic! I see some people's live matters, for most we are nothing to anyone! It's a real shame to that everyone has their "own standards " and if you don't live by them they to don't except you. But your all Bible thumping religions people right? But can't help no one like your God did for you? Lol again pathetic country that claims religion but can't follow one religious act!

I have several different autoimmune diseases, a rare bone disease plus I was involved in a car accident two years ago which messed me up even more. Plus I had carpal tunnel surgery in 2016 that caused me to lose feeling in my middle finger of my left hand and I can’t bend the finger properly and caused me to develop swan neck deformity. I am needing 6 joint replacement surgeries so I’m just not sure why they review me yearly. It’s not like I’m getting any better. It’s just frustrating. Thank you for this channel. I would love to go back to working but its not even possible to get thru the day because of the chronic severe pain & everything else. I am treating but since I moved I went to a different pain dr who was a "minimalist" & screamed at me when I told him what I was taking. Im trasferring back to my old dr now but going to have to drive 28 miles to go back to him, which one time I had a migraine so bad I couldnt drive. I have 0 back up funds if they cut me off & that has me terrified. I can barely walk or drive as its my right leg but I saw 3 new doctors where I live now & they were all terrible! I was treated so poorly & 2 of them even violated my HIPAA rights, the GP would only stand in the door to talk to me because she was afraid of my 11 yo Blind, Diabetic Service Dog! Do I need to keep worrying, I rarely leave my house but for appts & groceries (rarely I just have them delivered most of the time). Thanks, I am so glad I found your channel! @@stj971 So very true! I was Blessed & had amazing PM doc in Va who actually had me doing well on the meds, then I lost my job & came back home (FL). My pain meds were stopped cold turkey & I was put on Wellbutrin, which did not go well for me, at all! Now I went back to my old pain doc after the last incident I wrote about & despite the long, tough ride, I won't ever leave him again! But here in FL I am given about the equivalent of 1/4 the strength of meds I was on up north & unfortunately spend even more time in bed or my recliner. I was Blessed though because my old pain doc here took me back & he & his staff were wonderful (as usual) and. understanding! Unfortunately though they sent my meds to my old pharmacy so I was only able to get 1 of my 3 Rxs (lol can't catch a break, 1 is just Lidocaine patches, but I do need them but I have a few days' worth left). They already have me scheduled for my 2 medial branch injection procedures for the left side of my neck before they will do the RFA. I have had a few of these over the last 16 yrs & they just don't work on me. Idk if they help other CRPs patients or not but my female best friend & I both have had that problem. When I walked back into the pain doc's office I was so very relieved, I was absolutely startled by the appearance of the office & staff there vs the doctor's office at the one who treated me so poorly, I didn't notice the difference at the time... At least I know I am back in good hands, I just have to get a ride set up for that day to & fro for my next procedure! I will have a "quality of life" despite what the wacko pain management doctor @ Florida Medical Group said! Thanks to God & Dr Neill Ellis at Florida Pain Relief Group & his staff! They took fantastic care of me over the last (approximately) 3 years, & only reason I left was because they didnt take my new insurance, so I went back to my old insurance company & I am so glad I did! My meds are gonna cost more (again) but I would rather pay the money than even eat! God Bless you all!

Howdy hi hi. I was finally approved for SSI in 2020 after utilizing a lawyer to help me prepare my case. But mine is a complicated set of medical issues. factor V leiden antiphospholipid syndrome ocular migraine severe heart valve stenosis minor tricuspid valve regurgitation five pulmonary embolisms three pulmonary infarctions splenomegaly over thirty bilateral deep vein thrombosis instances multiple superficial bilateral thrombophlebitis Chronic venous insufficiency Leg ulcers restrictive lung disease pulmonary hypertension hypertension All in all a solid 15 medical conditions. But for all the times I attempted to file on my own, I was turned down. In my defense, it wasn't until 2015 when I finally realized that a big part of what was ailing me were the migraines. I'd been diagnosed with it in 2002, but at that time was only aware of a single symptom. A kind of bilateral blindness that would last for around a half hour and then fade. After my diagnosis, the symptom resolved and I gave it no more thought for many years. One by one I was able to switch up my medications so that my blood thinner was one that also helped with migraine. It was then found via clinical trial that Plaquenil would deactivate platelets turned on by APLS and so that was added. And amazingly it also aided with the migraines. After a long fight to have my case seen by a neurologist who upon my arrival was already convinced that I had no idea what I was talking about. But I convinced them to do a simple test confirming what I was telling them. And so a third medication amitriptyline was added then increased. So coupled with lisinopril for HBP, I'm now set and feeling about as healthy as it is possible given everything that I live with. The claim went as my lawyer put it, "As smooth as it could have possibly have gone." And I was approved on the first pass. Took about two and a half months. I really wish I'd been aware and smart enough to get legal representation right away. I lost about two decades of benefits, and enduring a ton of abuse during that time frame. So if you're reading this. Do yourself a favor and at least consult with a lawyer before you start this journey. And prior to that make sure you have lots of documentation from your medical team. It really does make a difference.

You will definitely get reviewed, usually about every 5 years for me, I'm not sure what you're talking about as far as trucks & people knocking on your door though. I've been on SSD for over 30 years and have been reviewed many times including about 2 months ago. Reviews have always been a form they send every 5 years or so asking if you're still being treated, if you're better or worse, meds you take etc. As long as you fill it out & send it back in time that's it end of review. I would be careful on how much volunteer work you do especially if it's on a regular basis. If you can't work but you can volunteer somewhere every week it could hurt your review. Last thing, there's a very good chance you'll get denied regardless of your condition. They weed out a lotta bullshit cases that way hoping you'll just go back to work. If you are disabled you'll get it through the appeals process just takes longer

So right now, I’m classified as totally disabled and get my payments every third Wednesday of the month. According to my BPQY states my next medical review is in seven years. In my experience, being on SSD since 2004, that short form is them checking to see if they think they need to pull a full review on you. Your answers will determine if they pull a full review on you. I hope you filled it out accurately and I hope you are aware there is a time limit for that short questionnaire to be returned.

I also suggest to fill out this form timely and honestly. If you feel you are getting better or worse, just let them know. Also make sure you are regularly seeing your doctor or specialist. If you do not have to see a doctor in a year, they may wonder and question why.

I'm 57 will be 58 in April. My back is about gone. After applying it went to my neck and now my left knee. Yet their doctor said I was limited but could do my last job, selling mobile homes. They apparently don't know what is involved in it. Getting up in the morning is a good 45 minutes plus before I can stand up fairly straight. It's been 3 years and I'm currently on the reconsideration phase. I can't afford medical insurance and they won't just give me medicaid here. I'm really going crazy here. I'm single and broke, not to mention I worked physical work for years and vowed to die in the field at 88. That won't happen because I can't hardly walk to the field now.

I just came across your channel and have so many questions. I'm 63 and have been disabled since 2011 with severe rheumatologist arthritis, Feltys Syndrome, degenerative joint disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, numerous spinal issues and hospitalized with sepsis twice. I am caring for my daughter who is on the autism spectrum, has ADHD, severe generalized anxiety disorder, cPTSD, severe OCD and numerous severe food allergies. She was getting survivors benefits through Social Security of her dad who died in 2008 when she was ten years old. It was stopped when she was 19. She was in special education in school due to autism, ADHD and learning disabilities in school. We applied for disability under her dad's Social Security disability benefits in 2016 but she was denied. I was too sick to work on an appeal. She had a special education teacher that caused her so much emotional trauma that she had to be hospitalized twice in high school with emotional issues. She (and half of her class) dropped out of school due to emotional abuse. I exhausted my Cobra work benefits while I was trying to get disability. It took three years and once approved, my daughter lost her insurance through my employer/Cobra. I have to pay for her health insurance because I have Medicare and she doesn't qualify for Medicaid (was told because she lives at home with me - if she lived elsewhere she would qualify). She cannot work or function due to such severe anxiety and OCD. Her medical expenses are so much that I often cannot afford my own Dr appointments. I had to cancel my cataract surgery due to not having the copay ($450 each eye). She attended vocational rehab and they told her she was unemployable. She wants to be on disability to get treatment and get better so hopefully she won't need to stay on it.i have wanted to find a Social Security lawyer for help and find out options. I just don't know what to do or how to do it. I am getting behind on paying copays and medical expenses. Can you guide me to the right people to talk to? Thank you.

One of the disadvantages of having to pay an Attorney for it is that an Attorney might charge you a dollar twenty-five for every dollar you have coming. I should know. When I worked at a Door shop we had July 4 fall on a Tuesday and we were off Monday without pay, so as a result, the company made us work overtime with straight-time pay. The shop was a Union shop and the Union rep was willing to take the matter to an Attorney. The Attorney want the employees, NOT THE COMPANY to pay the court cost, and for every dollar, we had come to us in back pay the Attorney wanted a dollar twenty-five for every dollar the company owed us. We decided to dismiss the case because it was a lose-lose situation and as a result, the plant manager took advantage of the opportunity to screw us on overtime pay when he had an opportunity or could find a convenient excuse to do so.

After about three weeks I recieved a letter saying that I did not qualify and they wanted that money back, so I got a Certified Check and took it into the Socual Security Office in my town...they said " NO " , that the money was mine....this went on for about three dif attempts to return it...it was not accepted...so eventually it was spent...so now I get sent to a review, I was in a wheel chair...this Judge has the biggest reputation in this state for denying claims...so I got a Social Security Disability Lawyer and he went to court several times...I was still denied... so I was told that I had to pay it back with interest...that was in 2010.....I am still paying it back and I would like to know when these repayments are going to stop...I since then have had two surgeries and still need two more...I PRAY after all is said and done that I will be better than the Bionic Woman..

You don't have to make that much before they consider you able-bodied. Read the fine print at the bottom of pages. Also, if your disability involves pain, doctors consider you drug-seeking if you continue to bring it up. Also when you get a COLA you lose it back to the system. Your income also affects other benefits. For a long time in Iowa, you had to work to qualify for Medicaid supplementation. (MEPD). Prior to that there was a spenddown (deductible) issue that you had to hit in the right two month period. Now they have a "Healthy behaviors" program where you must go to the doctor and dentist every so often and have them sign the paper that you did the "healthy behavior" which is going to the doctor - which IMHO is *not* a "healthy behavior". I thought the MEPD program was going to be a trap because, again, you didn't have to make the maximum allowed to be considered able-bodied. They've always done like 3 year reviews. Reviews are more frequent when you first start receiving benefits. Don't forget to remind people that any income they make they must report and it does affect rent assistance, food stamps, medical benefits or premiums-deductibles for Medicaid, although I don't think they do the spenddown thing any more since more people are on the "healthy behaviors" program, including non-disabled people age 19-64. If you're over 64, you no longer get the dental or vision unless you have certain illnesses like diabetes, even though you're still disabled. Makes no sense to no longer qualify after age 64. It's age discrimination as far as I'm concerned. At a time when you need dental and vision care the most, you don't qualify for it because you're not young enough.

I tried working again in 2007 a night stocker and was making over 900 a month and they reviewed me even though I was fired 4 months into the job as I figured my mental issues would get in the way as always in my past. Well social security took me to court in a medical review saying I made gainful activity and I fought them just muself no lawyer and won my benefits back cause getting fired was not gainful activity. The judge was nice to me and chewed social security out and awarded me my benefits and praised me for trying to work again and told me to be careful and if I try to worl again to make sure I don't make over 900 a month or they will consider it gainful activity and end my SSI that took me 2 and a half years to get in 2001. Been on SSI since then and have had 4 reviews and just had one a month ago. Paperwork in the mail and sent in all proof from my mental drs and med Dr and haven't heard a word back from them which I guess is a good thing I don't know. My benefits are still going so thats good. It was just those update papers to see if they need to review you. Thats been over a month ago and no word back. I sent in lots of new proof and more stuff added than before. I bet their pissed now they can't say Im better. Haven't worked at all since last fired in 2007. @@TheDisabilityDigest I'm sorry I didn't see this before - seems KZread is "withholding"..... I was on disability until I turned 65-66. I had to go on MEPD (medical eligibility for persons with disability) to get title19. We had some info-classes about working while on SSD. In the fine print at the bottom it said that one didn't have to make the (then) $700 to meet the fully employed qualification. They could cut us off at $400 if they thought that was "gainful employment". I wondered if MEPD, which was supposed to allow us to continue to get title19, was a trick so they could kick us off it. Problem was, I had a spenddown for title19 - and I couldn't "continue" to get something I wasn't getting. I felt blackmailed into working. I wasn't supposed to be working and it made my disability worse.

For that matter whether you work or not has always been your choice.. no college? No problem, start a business.. can't start a business? I’m on IVIG monthly (infusions at the cancer center), I have a central line and on IV fluids and meds at home. My blood pressure can be sky high and it can drop to the 60’s easily and happens often. Many times I can’t get out of bed. My lungs have gotten a bit better but in many ways I’m worse. I haven’t worked since November 2015. There is no way I can. I am also immunocompramised so I have to wear a mask and I am prone to sepsis (had it 3 times), pneumonia (have had it many many times), and GI infections. Many hospitalizations since 2015 but not as many in the past two years especially due to COVID. What are my chances of losing my disability? I have 8 days to fill out the paperwork and it’s basically yes or no answers which doesn’t say much. Any helpful advice?

They only gave me 3 lines to list the last 2 years and I had about 20 pages worth and sent all of it in. Next time I will save my paperwork. Since turning in my paperwork I’ve been admitted to the hospital for severe pneumonia and sepsis in both lungs and possibly have pneumonia again now. Apparently sending in all that paperwork was enough! Thank you for your response though.

How often do reviews happen? I had one in 2019. I turned 62 in 2021. Is it possible to get another before I turn full retirement age? My counselor wrote in as having a social anxiety disorder. I'm on disability for Major Depressive Disorder. Covid has me in panic mode. So I barely go anywhere, but to the grocery store once a week.

I have been on disability since 2000.. ssdi Worked from 1965, disabled 1999. Me during disability, I just worked part time 22 hours for 2yrs. Then stopped. Stressful being up at 6 am for an 8:30 am security job. I used to work all nite at a casino. Or half the nite 4-12 am. I had one review 2009. That's all. Plus at age 66 my retirement started. They sent a letter. U are now certified retirement. U are 66,. The start retirement age of a person born 1951. Your $ are the same. Pending your yearly cpi $ that's starts each January. I don't know what this 1962 retirement stuff is? Unless u are on s s I. Confused unless it's changed. People that get regular social security have to retire at full retirement age( now 67) 62 for us is ,30% reduction. My disability. Bi polar.

I’m haven’t received any Disability Benefits. I’ve been disabled since 12/3/2019. That was my 1st operation for a brain tumor, which has left me paralyzed on my right side. I’m not able to walk, I’m in a wheel chair now, I’ve lost hearing in my left ear completely, & finally, my left eye becomes dry, slightly scratchy. I have glasses that I’ve worn since I was a child; my vision has definitely gotten worse since the operation. I am at my wits end & don’t know what to do to receive an income. I am use to working for a living. I’ve done that since leaving high school. I’ve decided to go to college taking Nutrition & Agriculture classes online to make it easier for me but I would like to receive some SSI Benefits. What can I do?

I've been trying for almost 3 years to get disability. My last employer kept adjusting my workload to try and keep me working before I finally had to stop because my functioning is decreasing. The disability service in Illinois is awful! If I had not paid for long term disability, I would have been totally screwed. I would now be homeless as I have no living family members. How about working on improving how disability is acquired. I have multiple doctors and get procedures every month! But I don't have a mental illness so they drag their feet on my application. My first application was denied the first year because of the report of the examining doctor, who came in angry, barely said 2 words, never even examined me, then proceeded to write a multiple page fraudulent document of my functioning. Completely contradicting doctors who did actual surgery and followup procedures! Forget additional services. Work on making sure the people on disability really should be receiving it.

Absolutely not true. What is true is Federal SSDI, SSR vs. State SSI. Means tested vs. Disability elligible. YES saying Social Security is not means tested is a load of crap. Here's what is not said about this benefit when we sign that paper and lose that $ out of our hard earned pay: In order to qualify for the higher payment in Federal Disability or if age eligible (means test) retirement. You must have worked 40 work quarters. Sounds easy? What exactly is work quarter? Fortunately it isn't 40 years. A work quarter is A 3 month period per year. So 13 -14 years. No exceptions. One approval I just recently got through after 2 years of fighting was short 1 work quarter or/ $1000.00 of earned income. He had to settle for SSI retirement at a much lower benefit amount. We started his application 1 year prior to his retirement age. Because of the COVID pandemic and the lack of transportation, he lost all back pay. Although SSI is Federal funded it is typically a State run program. That is why certain States like Cali. Offer a Ssi supplement to recipients on the low payment end of The Ssd/ Ssr spectrum whereas other States like Colorado, don't. I applied for years in Colorado. I lost everything. Hired several Attorneys. Tearfully, went back to jobs in severe pain only to have more Surgery because it did more damage. I moved in with family in Cali. I was awarded within 6 months after my appointments. It us so awesome to see there are others like me who help to muddle through this. Especially for those of us who practically killed ourselves working temp. 0 benefit jobs or jobs without pension benefits. I dont mean 401 k ripoff or other retirement pay ins that never get paid out. Stay firm everyone. You signed that paper and had this money taken out for it to be there when you NEEDED IT. You won't be living off the Government. Well if it's theirs now, they lied and stole our $. With all the percentage pinchers to get what is rightfully ours..... anyway. 1 more rant:all Politicians that want to have any control over These benifits need to manditorilly pay into them.

You can try tell them all the stuff you have or are pretty sure you have and they'll send you for a test if your doctor isn't agreeing with you. Get a lawyer on standby though cuz a family member I had who was disabled since teenage years put into disability at age 25 with 4 auto hits on their case yet got denied as severe but not severe enough! So toss all the comorbidities you've got even tiny ones at them you come in with 20 things wrong they'll have to try harder even a smidge.
