4 Simple Questions To Find Your Passion

Link to tip to master your emotions: goo.gl/VTGFwi
How To Find Your Passion
People often write me asking what they should do with their lives. They lack a sense of purpose. They have this sense that they should "follow their passion" but they don't really know what it means. Plus half the world is telling them that following a passion is stupid or misinformed. They encourage them to develop the skills they are already good at and that society values. That way they can get a good job and get paid.
I'm all for developing skills that can land you gainful employment. But as to sticking to making that your sole focus? Screw that. And as for sticking only to what you're already good at? Screw that too.
Start with what excites you. If you care enough, you'll put in the work to become fantastic in that field. And the way the world is going, you can get paid for most anything (hell, I make money talking about how celebrities exude charisma!)
This video answers the question "How do I find my passion?" It is there is to help you overcome some of the hidden doubts you might have. The things that might be holding you back from discovering what your passion really is and committing to developing it. Ask yourself these 4 questions and write down the answers. Then pick the common thread and do it more. You'll be a happier person for it, and you might just get a chance to earn a living doing something you love.
1. What makes you lose track of time?
2. What do you spend money to do?
3. Where do you fear judgment?
4. What makes your heart race?

i wasted my past 28 years, doing nothing interesting to me. now im so wasted and i can't even tell what is my passion is or what are the things that I am good at (even i don't know if i am good at my job since i get fired/ refused so many times) ! i spent two weeks sat to the PC taking personality and passion tests, watching tutorials on how to get a life or even how to be liked by the people around me! i feel like i really need guidance from an expert, because i am so afraid to spend my entire life doing such mistakes (actually doing nothing), I am like i lost my direction in life specially after i lost my job and my girlfriend in the same day and i went into this dark tunnel. So if you're reading this comment and still young , PLEASE don't waste your golden years being shy, introverted, perfectionist , or without having hobbies.

It doesn't matter how old you are to find a new passion. Don't beat yourself up. I hope you found a job. Also people are weird, and usually you will not know for sure if they like you or not. Work on liking yourself. Some will like you and some will not, and that is normal. Do yoga💖It will bring you happiness and inner peace. Then you can go from there. I just realized I recommend yoga to everyone. That must be my passion😍😍😍Well good luck.

Passion is an overused term that usually freezes people instead of helping them find what they want to do. Truth is only a very small percentage of people follow passion as a career. I love writing music, it's my passion. But I also love my job, which is a paramedic. I didn't become one by figuring out my passion. I was curious in medicine, which led me to curiosity in emergency medicine, which led to some clear job choices. If you follow your curiosities it will lead you to some practical career choices that you can still enjoy. Don't think life has to be some Hollywood movie where you quit everything, move, follow your "passion", and become rich and famous.

Very well said :) I completely agree. This channel is just like all the other self-help books/ seminars etc. Ironically, I'm goin to quote the father self-help, Dale Carnegie:"arise is someone a deep want and then charge them for it". This channel doesn't exactly charge its viewers, although still gets paid (like any other youtube channel). Getting paid to fill our heads with white mice. lol

+DMT I don't get how that's bad... He isn't even creating a need out of nowhere... He is actually finds a pre-existing need and makes a profit out of it. Viewers get some help and he is paid by an external source... Why is self-help more "shameful" than having a shrink? Everyone has their own insecurities you can't pretend like they don't exist because they don't want to label themselves with something that's not even as embarrassing as we make it out to be.

I agree. I have been beating myself up trying to figure out what my "passion" for a career is and have not been able to figure it out. I have a passion for film and music but I don't want to pursue either as a career. I have always been very curious about medicine/science, though. It doesn't give me the exciting feeling I get when watching films or listening to my favorite songs but I do find it interesting.

It sounds like you are a burning museum and everyone is running in to take a free masterpiece. Take charge and start delegating who takes what (of your paycheck) and where it goes. Bar the doorway of your finances and refuse entrance to those you are not ready to pay at that time. Pay a little to keep them happy, but do not let their loud demands empty your coffers. Set up a budget for yourself, leaving enough money for you, that will allow you to enjoy life (just not as extravagant as before) while paying off your most pressing obligations. Start searching for other activities to enjoy that require a little less funding. Do not limit your pleasures, but explore those that cost a bit less. Kind of talking to myself here. I am sure you've already considered all of what I suggested, but I needed to hear it again myself. My money has always had a desire to go exploring other peoples lives way too often. I have had to convince it that I have a better plan. We get along much better now.

+Pickpocket I feel it is worth pointing out that when Cal says this, it is not because he means you should not follow your passion, but that "follow your passion" does not help. passion is an adverb. You can do something passionately. There are careers and workplaces that are wrong for you, but not only 1 that is right. There are several possible places that fit. "passion" comes not from specific vocations necessarily, but form conditions within these vocations, such as a feeling of impact and autonomy. Also, worth looking up "career capital" to get a closer look at what he's talking about in the book.

    1. What makes you lose track of time? -Anything i'm good at doing 2. What do you spend money to do? -Anything i'm good at doing 3. Where do you fear judgment? -Anything i'm good at doing 4. What makes your heart race? -Anything i'm good at doing. Which as you might imagine presents a problem. If you hinge your ego on doing something well the odds are you'll fail. A room full of musicans were asked how well they preformed at a time when it was really important for them to do well and the answer was almost universally "poorly". I'm pretty good at writing, at some videogames, i enjoy social interaction but that's mostly because i like to find out how other people work, what drives and motivates them and how they operate... Like i said though, i'm really only invested for as long as i'm doing something well, the rest of the time it's just rage and frustration and angst because i'm not living up to my potential.

I agree. Often when I am on a vernissage and I am talking to some people there, they say 'I am an artist' and they don't sound convincing by saying it. When I ask them what kind of art they are doing, they start to stutter and they don't seem to have any passion for what they are doing. I loose interest right away. I don't want to say I expect everybody to be a successful artist, but I expect some passion about what people do.

Thanks for the reinforcement Charlie, I've always been adamant about my passion, but I always had doubts that what I was doing was right(considering nobody supports me or me dreams), if it was really my passion, or if it was me fooling myself into thinking it was my passion. But after answering these questions, I am even more convinced I am on the right path. Thank you.

3 was a really interesting question and one that i wasnt expecting. It definitely opened up a lot of thoughts for me. I have hobbies and interests and am really passionate about a number of things but i never really share or tell anyone else, it's much more a case that i will ask what the other person is into and talk about that. I think (especially when it comes to relationships) this chameleon-like behaviour is holding me back and perhaps opening that up and allowing myself to be judged will enhance my character and who i am as a person rather than always remaining a bit of an unknown. Nice vid!

Doesn't seem to work with awkward/weird kids. Here are my Answers: 1. Writing, Philosophy (the walking around in circles talking to ones self, while breaking down what a philosoph said or Theme/Idea), Dreaming (about all the idealistic shit you dream of as a kid, etc..), Playing, Friends. 2. meeting friends (bus ticket, beer), video games 3. my ability to communicate/holding a conversation, Anime & Manga (though I talk about it anyway), Writing (though I do read out loud anyway as I was part of a writing club) 4. meeting a crush. One should think I know what my passion is, yet there is none. I am driftwood.

Do those things more often! I feel that will help you make connections and open more doors. Also, try new things! You won't know what you love unless you give it a chance. My biggest passion in life is Hockey. When I was younger I had a predetermined idea of what hockey was and 'I knew' it wasn't for me, even though I didn't want to give it a chance. Today I contribute to forums, research stats, watch multiple games every day, and play twice a week. But I would have never gotten into it if my Dad didn't force me to watch a game on TV with him. It's crazy how opening a door can lead to the discovery of a piece of who you are. I'm no expert but I hope this helped :)

Well, you don't have to "find your passion". Not a single person on this planet is limited to be passionate only about some particular things. We are passionate about something particular, but if that thing didn't exist, we would simply be passionate about something else. Passion doesn't come from it's subject, it comes from the person. Also, success brings far more passion, than passion brings succes. Even if you are not looking for practicall success in that thing, but you are after that excitement, just look at something that people around you are not ussually that good at, but something you could potentionally excell at.

About what makes my heart race.. when I address an audience or When I act as a trainer, training or teaching employees or when I am simply there as a listener for people who need an ear, and then help them reflect and sort out their thoughts.. Hey Charlie - I think your questions are great for finding one's passions but unfortunately I still can't find the answer to what I'll do professionally. I've always been really good at foreign languages, I dance ballet and play the violin for hobbies and just recently I found myself interested in pursueing a career in medicine. I also secretly dream of becoming a writer. I generally love acquiring knowledge about cultures/religion/science (in particular neuroscience). While medicine would be the 'safe' path, the long studies to become a doctor and the shifts in hospitals don't excite me. Then again, being a writer isn't safe at all and I haven't even written much yet (I did win a creative writing contest in Italian for students this year though). I feel like my interests are vast and I could theoretically succeed in anything but that's just the problem, I'm not sure what I want. I'd appreciate any tips and thanks for the great video!

Your statement at 4:35 is a perfect representation of my life currently. Being a very shy and awkward person, I just don't know how to improve when it comes to social interactions, which is one of the more prominent subjects where I fear judgement. Great video! I took a half hour to think about this. I'll share what I have so far, then I gotta get ready to go to work. 1.
