This time of year my mind goes to desserts, is there really a bad for your mind to go to desserts? Probably not, lol but in early May we have lots of birthdays and anniversaries; I'm starting to think about the summer holidays and picnics to come. But especially this weekend, I’m thinking about Mother’s Day. So in this video I’m sharing 4 desserts that happen to be personal favorites of two very special ladies in my life, my momma and mother in love!

Mama mel, hello from kansas city, missouri! I'm in happy tears hearing you address the effects of social media on women. I never EVER leave here feeling less than, or incapable. Your recipes are always easy, well explained, and encouraging. I've made a few of your recipes now, and they're always big hits with my little family. I'm not a religious person, my parents didnt instill that in me, but I always get such a spiritual feeling watching your videos. My 4 year old daughter, valkyrie, says hello and requests your videos by name everytime we open KZread. We love mandy, amber, and Jennifer too, but you and mandy are her absolute favorites.

You have helped me “relax” in the kitchen and I have learned to use what I have and not stress if I don’t have the exact ingredients the recipe calls for. I’m the queen of substitutions now! I can’t tell you how liberating that is!!! I am also blessed with a Godly mother and mother-in-law. If I am half the woman they are that’s quite an accomplishment! What a sweet treat! I hardly ever measure too! I do like celery with peanut butter 😋 it’s crazy to think of mayonnaise mixed with fruit is good, but grape salad is also delicious, and I use mayonnaise in it 😆 everything looked delicious! Mel, those are some secret recipes I never got from my Mom. She used to make the Apple one with mayo but I never got it from her before she died 2 yrs ago - so that one's really special to me. I laughed at the Snickers thot u had, u just have such a hilarious funny bone! 🤣 I think I remember the Cherry Yum Yum recipe too but that one was many years ago she made it. I never thought of using 2 types of icing for a German Chocolate Cake - but its brilliant! Thank u for making time for us today and considering our upcoming Mothers Days (they are bittersweet for me bc my Mom is gone, but watching u recreate her recipes has been like grief therapy for me). U have such a sweet, tender heart for the little flock of women u bless - u are truly a Proverbs 31 woman thru & thru! I love giggling thru tears - its my favorite emotion! Have a blessed Mothers Day sweet friend! ❤❤❤ PS: I've been praying diligently that all those tornadoes miss u & keep all u love safe. I'm much farther North of the devastating one that hit Michigan this week + Praise God! Those poor people in Portage & Kalamazoo really got it hard!

Happy Mother's Day sweet Mel. I hope your day if filled with all of the folks and things you love! Great video!! Sometimes I can tell that we are from the same part of the country, we cook the same things!! LOL. Love apple salad. It's one of my mom's favorites. And that Mr. Dew dish...YUM! I like box German chocolate cake mix too! All are wonderful, but Cherry Yum Yum takes the prize. That started showing up at church dinners, family reunions and picnics around here back in the late 70's. That recipe spread like wild fire..lol. Everyone was making it. It remains a huge hit to this day. Hope you have a great day. Glad to see you posting during the week too! The more Mel the merrier! God bless sweet lady!

My aunt always made the tastiest German Chocolate Cake for birthdays and holidays….It came straight from the box. Even the frosting was some type of dry boxed mix that she prepared in a saucepan on the stove. It was all about the love. ❤️
My mom loved apple salad. Basically, she was the only one eating it at Thanksgiving or Christmas. She made it with apples, grapes, miracle whip, and dream whip. Pecans or walnuts if ww had them. Cranberry raisins sounds wonderful in it. I think I'll honor my mom by making some for Mother's Day and eating it all myself. I love your accent, cooking style, and inspiration to me. I'm 71 years old, so that's saying lots of good about you.❤

Your apple salad is, basically, a Waldorf Salad. I have Envy apples but no marshmallows (I'll use pecans or cashews). Thanks so much for the recipe/idea since I have to use these apples sooner than later...love you Mama Mel!

I make that mountain apple cobbler every year at Thanksgiving. It is the most requested aside from my cornbread dressing.

I wonder if you could use sour cream instead of Mayo in the apple salad. I guess you could kinda like a grape salad. I think I would like that little bite sour cream gives.

Thanks for sharing Mel!!💞💕I love the apple dumpling recipe but last year I used fresh peach slices and oh man it’s so good! I’m sure my family will still like the apple ones every now and then but for now they’re loving the peach change and we’re all looking forward to fresh peaches coming in season again soon!!

Mel, Thank you for all you do. My mom went to Heaven 10 years ago this week. Her very favorite cake was a German Chocolate Cake. I would make the cake for her for a special treat. I personally don't like chocolate cake or coconut.
