Robert and Ben have both proved the Toyota is a more than capable rig. It's not just the driving but the rig Robert has built. It keeps impressing me more and more. No it's not a jeep but it's a very good second choice! I also loved seeing Cara making it and Matt getting the soft shackle of shame on an obstacle. Edit: no offense to Robert or Ben about their driving because they are good drivers.

Since it’s not that guys 4runner, he’s been making it look real bad scared of damaging anything which is understandable lol but trails like this you shouldn’t bring a rig that’s not yours and scared of wheeling it right. I’ve seen that 4Runner do some serious stuff when Robert is driving it but like I said it’s totally understandable he’s being respectful to rob’s 4runner. Loved this video guys. Thanks for bringing us along as always. I think the next mod for the 4Runner should def be a full front bumper for coverage at all angles, not just the middle part of the bumper with that hybrid bumper which doesn’t protect the part where the wheels go on rocks. That 4Runner is the reason I started following this channel and have grown to really really love this rig.

I knew you were in for a long day when the thought of getting done in time for a relaxing dinner came up. Holy Cross City never quits early... Still a great video. I've been up this trail twice. The more recent was in 1995, when I got partway up in my 1993 Isuzu Rodeo with the factory big tire package - all of 31" - with the manual transmission. Not a rig that I expected to get very far in, but did let me scratch that itch a little. Best run was the first, way back in 1977 in my then nearly new 1976 FJ55. Sporting factory 28" M&S, we actually made it all the way up to that stream crossing pictured about halfway through the video. Discretion being the better part of valor, plus it was getting late in the day, we turned around then. Now you couldn't get near that location on 28s. All those rigs with huge tires have changed the trail greatly in the years since, with many people recommending 35s as the minimum to make it.

A great example separating Jeeps from Toyotas. I couldn’t afford a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon earlier this, so went with a 4Runner (2022 TRD Off Road) as a newbie getting into off road adventures. This video really illustrates the limitations, which I’ll gladly live within as this is also my daily. Great vid, now subscribed.

This is an awesome video and it displayed some awesome driving! Your wife has a great rig and she can drive, but the spotters you had are doing a far better job for you than they are for her. She only got high centered because “they” directed her the wrong way. The same Elka shocks would be nice for her rig, but giving her the same guidance would have gotten her through without the winch cable! Love your videos - keep ‘em coming.

Having a 4Runner similar to the one on this video it is cool to know how capable it could be. I'm more of an Overlander/camper though. Not planning on going on anything this challenging. Peace...

Terrific Video and beautiful area to explore. One can only imagine what it was like to live there in the old days. Quick question about all the patches and stickers on your truck cab ceiling. How do you attach them? My launch edition ceiling is OEM cloth and velcro won't stick.

I’ve run this trail twice. Seriously challenging. I think Pritchett Canyon is the only one I’ve done that’s more difficult. And I bet 4Runner guy buys and builds a jeep before too long. Go w 37’s👍👍👍

Agreed. Pritchett is definitely more challenging! The guy driving the 4Runner already has a Jeep it was just in the shop in Texas. The guy who owns the 4runner is the guy in the hat that has the dark grey Rubicon.

Well i went ahead and subscribed good sir. I wanna do the things you do I'm just not able to at this very moment but it's coming. I bought a 2000xj that was running but not driving, I put a 4.5in lift from Rubicon Express, I went that route coz imma do one tons and full 4 link later on, then heim joint crossover steering, sye kit, Tom Woods driveshafts, redone front and rear diff bearings, rear spartan locker, and it came with 33in ko2's in like new condition. I also added a 3row aluminum radiator and high flow water pump. Well i put about 2k miles on it then on startup one morning it started knocking really loud, I pulled the oil pan and valve cover that weekend and found 4 large pieces of a piston skirt in the oil pan lol. It's been parked for a few months and I'm waiting on my engine to get built, a 4.7l stroker and I'll be doing a lot more stuff to it as I confine with v2 of my 2kxj. People like ya'll hands inspired me to film and upload videos coz it looks like ya'll be having a blast. Thanks for your informative videos ands being honest, I was born in Memphis TN and grew up in Lepanto Arkansas and now live in El paso Texas, I plan on doing recoveries here coz nobody else offers that even tho I've never used a winch , but I got one lol. Starting with no experience should make for interesting footage right?

My wife and I went to Harding and My Daughter is teaching a camping/backpacking course at the university. She and her Husband have a moderately built 4runner. If you want, you can join us on the OOAT sometime. It is a trail that Matt put together through the Ozarks stating around St. Joe.

Holy Cross is such a great trail. Did you all take a look at Cleveland Rock while up there? The lake after it, is worth the hike, or drive if you can make Cleveland.

did you all try to crawl over that first obstacle before just ramming it up? seems like no? lockers engaged? the video edit made it seem no lockers and skinny peddle only...just wondering! thanks good content!

Usually, the first step is to attempt to crawl, then to lock up, then to "moab" bump it, then skinny pedal. lol...and then winch.

Your team needs to watch some videos on climbing. The majority of the time you want to take those obstacles at an angle. It is far easier for the jeep to get one tire up then both. Also it is never really worth racing up an obstacle. If that is needed use a winch. Not worth a roll over or a break.

Yeah... Agree with the Subaru comment. It's a little deceiving... Subaru and Cherokee Trailhawk will say they have the same ground clearance... Ok yeah .. to the suspension arm.... But then look at breakover angle and do the math and you'll find that the mid vehicle clearance is higher on the Cherokee and that the angles are way better. They are NOT comparable... Subaru Crosstrek With an 18-degree approach angle, a 29-degree departure angle and a 19.7-degree breakover angle, 8.7 inches ground clearance. 104.9 inch wheelbase. Now... Stock Cherokee Trailhawk: The Cherokee Trailhawk provides 20 inches of water fording, and it has a departure angle of 32.3 degrees, an approach angle of 29.9 degrees, and a breakover angle of 22.9 degrees. Also 8.7 inches of ground clearance. So if the Cherokee has a longer wheelbase and the same ground clearance, how can it possibly have a better breakover angle. Here's why... The mid vehicle clearance is better . Let's unpack that with some math....
