Please don't cover his hands. He is not even a just born and even newborns should be able to suck their hands if they want to. Apart from sucking, you want him to use his hands to explore the world around him, don't you? That's how he will develop fine-motor skills.

OMG, someone who feels exactly the same way I do about mitts! They are horrible and, yes, cruel! Cruel even on newborns! Imagine not allowing a baby to do what is instinctive to babies, hand sucking! Just clip fingernails short.

On older babies, mitts don't permit the use of hands to feel and hold objects. I've seen them on older babies too!
