Martin Luther about the book of romans: "This epistle is in truth the chief part of the New Testament and the purest Gospel. It would be quite proper for a Christian, not only to know it by heart word for word, but also to study it daily, for it is the soul’s daily bread. It can never be read or meditated too much and too well. The more thoroughly it is treated, the more precious it becomes, and the better it tastes."

Fascinating conversation. I always wondered why I think/memorize Scripture the way I do, for example...7 is a sword for me, 11 is twin or double of something, 5 is hand or stop etc. Though it wasn't mentioned here, I also really relate to the "first letter grid". Thank you!

When I was a kid attending a Christian school, we had to memorize a chapter of the Bible every month. We simply read the chapter out loud once per day every day, and near the end of the month, we had it memorized.

Motivation is important also. Being a christian seems like a big motivation to memorize the bible.

That's true, although not many Christians seem motivated to memorize for some reason.
