$4 Kebabs in Istanbul (Locals Recommend!) 🇹🇷

I went on a kebab hunt with an Australian backpacker that I ran into in the streets of Istanbul.
We walked from the Beyoglu area, across the bridge to the famous Grand Bazaar where there is a lot of street food and small local eateries. Exploring the backstreets, we asked the locals where we could get a good kebab and they directed us to Lezzet-i Sark restaurant.
It's always a bit awkward, walking into a restaurant with a camera, not knowing how I'll be received. Fortunately the staff at this place were extremely friendly and were encouraging me to take video of them making and serving the food.
I ordered three different kebabs (beef, chicken and a minced mix), thinking that I was literally just getting those meat kebabs. It turns out that each kebab is served as a meal with bulgur, bread and salad. It was far too much for even my big Scottish belly, so I was grateful that @LukeDamant helped me out and made sure that the food didn't get wasted.
We both had just enough room for dessert and the staff recommended the Kunefe that was saw them making when we walked in. It's a cheese dessert that's cooked on a grill, smothered in sugar syrup and sprinkled with a generous amount of Turkish pistachio nuts.
The kunefe was delicious enough on its own, but with Turkish ice cream (Dondurma) on top, it was heavenly delicious!
My first meal of the trip and I couldn't be happier. I'm looking forward to exploring more of what Turkish cuisine has to offer.

Yeah, I agree this comment completely. "We don't eat by our hands." But in fact we can't eat anyway. Because Turkey have economic crisis. Every item is so expensive. But it's a good country for tourists. But we can't say same thing for local people. So just enjoy it, You can even eat with your feet. It sounds cool for 4$ kebab. Like a bread price.

With certain exceptions such as wraps and a few select dishes, Turks don't eat with their hands. Rice, pasta, salad and soup is always consumed with cutlery. You can eat pide with you hands though. That's ok. In general if the food in a restaurant is meant to be eaten by hand, you will see easy access wash basins outside the lavatories so you won't have to enter the lavatory to wash your hands before and after the meal.. By the way, Turkish Kunefe is heavenly. It may be the best dessert in the world. You can have them remove the excess syrup so you will get less sugar and will be able to taste the cheese better. There are generally two kinds of Turkish Kunefe. One thicker version from Antakya/Hatay and the one you guys ate which is from Gaziantep. There is also an Arab variant called Kunafa which uses semolina instead of wheat vermicelli. I personally did not like it as much as the Turkish one but it's a matter of personal taste.

This was the most accurate comment. Especially when Dale eats the food with his hands, I thought that the audience would come to a conclusion that the Turks eat the food with their hands. The cutlery or spoon is in sealed papers so that it comes cleanly with the food. TURKS ARE NOT ARAB AND DON'T EAT WITH THEIR HANDS.

Eating MUST with hand isn’t related with islam. Cleanliness is an important part of Islam. Allah says “God loves those who keep themselves clean,” in Quran. Also “Cleanliness is half of faith,” the Prophet said in one of his well-known hadiths.---- So as I said it can be a tradition I don’t really know in your cultures. Also It is okay if you eat something with hand unless your hands are clean. Please do not mix Islam and any other religion with traditions.

There was a cutlery in the paper on the table during the whole video, but you ate it with your hands :) The Uzbek waiter could not answer because of his delicacy. Turks do not eat with their hands :). The waiter said it's okay because he thinks you like to eat like that.
