Do modeling amps reduce the need for compressors and pedals? Is there a setting for a Bakersfield Don Rich type of country sound?

Yes, most modeling amps reduce the need for pedals because you are able to achieve those same effects “digitally” within the amp, of which Line 6’s effects are notably really good (uses the Helix platform, if you are familiar). That said, an amp like this can also make a great platform to run pedals through, all up to personal taste and what kind of sounds you’re after! I personally am super into the idea of getting great tones and sounds with as little gear as possible (less to lug around & set up), so being able to achieve as much as possible in-amp, and it still sound great, really appeals to me. And I’m not familiar with Bakersfield Don Rich’s music, but I suspect the Catalyst’s “Clean”, “Boutique”, and “Chime” amp models would probably work quite well for some great country sounds; particularly the “Chime” amp model makes me think it would be great for “chicken-pickin’” with the gain, EQ, and reverb dialed in right. I’ll give his music a listen, and let you know what I come up with! ☺️🤙🏽🎸

@@kennyg63 No problem man, happy to help! ☺️🤙🏽 An amp like this (or something similar) would be a great place to start. Has a lot of what you need built in to get you started as a beginner. If modeling amps like this were around 15 years ago when I started playing, I probably would have spent a lot more time with electric guitar early on instead of leaning mostly into acoustic! 😅

Yes and no. I prefer to use compressor pedal over the compression a modeling amp offers. The same goes to ODs and distorsion.

Dude, you should sell that talent. Like charge a guy (like me), $ to give us the settings for 10 groups etc.
