Great work gentlemen. A little bit of advice from someone that does the night game almost exclusively. When placing the call make that 12 o’clock no matter where you put it. This way every stand you know where they’re coming from, extremely easy to communicate. Also try setting tripod up so rifle stock is around armpit level or slightly lower. This way your leaning into it some instead of standing up so vertical.

It's cool seeing you guys do some night hunting. Once again another great video. Here in Illinois we can hunt them from Nov 10th to Mar 15th at night. I'll be glad when thermals come down in price more, until then I'll try with lights.

My name is Tim. I live in Montana and have night hunted for about 12 years, used thermals for the last 5 or 6. You are absolutely right in saying it's a whole different world. Just a suggestion stay on stand a little longer and you will get the long range ones to come. My best was 5 from a mile and a half with mouth calls. Good luck and keep up the great videos.

Nebraska is open to hunt predators 24/365 no restrictions on optics the only technical restriction is during November firearm, you cannot use a centerfire rifle to hunt for anything other than deer.

Way i understood nebr law is you must have valid deer tag and follow deer hunt regs.....then you can still hunt coyotes....which would NOT allow night hunting as per open hunting hours, also youd need to have orange on......but you CAN still hunt coyotes.....only reason i buy deertag and never fill it till last day if at all

Finally some thermal action! Been running thermal for the last few years. Shot 70 last year and 84 so far this year. Farthest kill a few weeks ago at 542 yards with the Halo LR.

Love seeing you guys thermal hunting. If you guys ever get to the east coast I'd like to go out with you guys. Here in South Carolina we go year round because there is no closed season on them.

@@jdpainter5422 that's because the eastern coyotes have mythical powers that make them smarter and much harder to kill. Thermal Hunting is like their kryptonite! Haha Jk!! I can tell you that a coyote is a coyote no matter what state you're hunting in. Adjust your tactics to fit the terrain, veg, land access, coyote densities, etc. and a guy can stack them up anywhere!!

I was running a Fullmoon optics genesis 75 and Rick was running a trijicon mk3 60. We also had Pulsar Accolade 2 binos and another Fullmoon. I also use a trijicon mk2 35 for spotting.

I'd love it if New Mexico would open up a night season or a night license.

Great stuff guys, hope to see more night shift stuff. Ive noticed night compared to day hunting,, here in s.e. nebr, settled farm country with towns 10 miles apart and 2-=4 farms per section, plus all the 5 acre citidiot ranches(citidiot=idiots from city who move to the country), with very small distances between human occupation, i call approx 10 to 1, even 15 to 1 ratio night vs day calling. Its not unusuall to see coyotes every other stand at night, with 1/3 coyote to sand ratio. Its not uncommon on some nights to go 100% on 4 to 6 stands. One little trick i like is to screw these super strong retangle magnots, 1/2 wide x 2 or 3" long, right to the feet of my L.D. caller, and just stick it on cab of truck. Ill ususally walk straight in off road 25-75 yards into road and set up with tripod. I like having sound behind me as they seem to be running to source of sound and practically overrun you in front of sound, oblivious to you depending on moon brightness.......one less thing to carry also. A great piece of equipment for night calling is a Cabelas Swamp Stool.....like a 3 leg bar stool with fold down legs and has about 15" of hieght adjustment. You. can adjust so its just a few inches lower than standing and easy to sit back on while standing behind tripod......or you can adjust tripod and stool to a nice high sitting position which i feel gives me a more stable shooting posirion. Stool is vwry stabil, pretty light, and night caller tough..........call enough at night its easy to know what night caller tough is. Magnots can be found all over amazon, and strong enough as long as your not driving like ya stole it , call can be left on truck most of night Hope to see more night shift stuff, you guys did pretty darn good for being new at the game👍

I like the interaction between Geoff and Rick making them one of my favorite calling shows, but i watch and learn from all 4 of the main calling shows i watch. Berween Geoff, Norris at foxpro, Predatorquest guy, blank on name at moment.......but ALL 3 of them have how many world championships between them? To ignore ANY of these guys advice IMHO, is to pnly limit your own knowledge pool. I'd be honoured to carry ANY of these guys water any day of week myself

We have used a walkie talkie with an ear piece so we could hear better during a tournament.it worked pretty good.i already had the radios from deer drives and running hounds on coyotes.i always use the earpiece so if there is a deer or coyote near me coming in and someone talks on the radio it doesn't spook the animal. The clear tube types of ear piece work the best for me and arent as uncomfortable as the hard black ear pieces I've used that came with my midland radios.

@@GeoffNemnich I always wondered if you guys and some of the other people who are well known in the industry are using radios because they dont really show that part of it on video as far as I have seen on videos.we use them for deer drives and running hounds on coyotes but I just thought of it one night before we went out to hunt a tournament cuz I got sick of everyone always saying "huh" and "what" every time someone else talks to them about a coyote coming in range. I definitely think that the earpiece is the best way to go so the animals don't hear the chatter and spook. I had it happen with both deer and yotes in the past before I had the ear piece. I have been alot more successful since adding the ear piece. Plus the batteries will last longer with the radio being out of the cold when I keep it in my inside pocket of my jacket against my chest. And they dont get wet.my midland radios have button lock and whisper mode which are both great settings for hunting. I can whisper into the mic and it sounds like I am speaking normal volume to the other people on their speakers. Pretty cool setting.

I've killed thousands of coyotes with a 223 and can honestly say I've probably only ever lost less than 10 and 99% of those were because I hit them in the wrong place. You put 223 bullets thru the ribs and every coyote dies, guaranteed!!

Lets us know what you guys are running for scanners and scopes. I’m in Kansas, we have been putting a hurt on them at night. Just wish we could do it all year! Keep making the night videos!!

i like the daytime hunts more....As Rick said, the thermal hunts looks like a video game, your videos during daytime had some very good pics of the nature and the coyotes, this is missing at thermal hunts totally. Though night hunting could be more effictive....

Great show guys. I do have a question, I noticed you're calling techniques were differing slightly from the past few episodes. Are you changing because it's at night or because it's later in the season. I ask because I'm trying to figure out night hunting solo and haven't been real successful yet. I have a helion 2 xp50 thermal scope and a lucky duck rough neck. Any pointers on night calling are welcomed. Thanks and love the show.

I'm no expert on coyote hunting, but I'm a creature of habit so I follow what works for me. I'm in Nebraska hunting public and found the coyotes are timid when they hear the standard prey distress because everyone goes out and calls at 100% and scare off all the coyotes. Instead, I've recently found that the pup distress is getting more serious responses than the prey distress (in my area and this time period at least)

Probably several factors. Sometimes it just depends on who's running the call. Rick and I do vary a bit from time to time on how we call. Time of year is important so as we get closer to breeding season, usually more Coyote sounds work better.

Awesome hunting. Always looking forward to yalls videos. If you want some awesome idaho hunting get ahold of me I have a cattle rancher that desperately needs help getting rid of some brush mutts could be some good videos.

Maybe some day we can find a way to make it even more easier than night vision

I dont know what brand Rick's were but mine is on old heavy Manfrotto tripod I had left over from my DVD filming days and then I just put a hog saddle on it

If you don't blaze away at those second or more healthy running coyotes, many will stop on their own or can be stopped by you. Especially early season. I'm thermal in MN. Many of my solo doubles and triples have been accomplished on standing coyotes inside 200yds. I also stay on stand longer.

True bucklind, I live in Michigan where we can hunt coyotes 24-7-365 many times I’ve called in multiple coyotes where I shoot one and switch the lucky duck over to the gravedigger sound and the others return to investigate and I get shots on them. I am using a suppressor

In some cases you are right but I've watched thousands and thousands of coyotes come to the call so reading coyotes is something I'm pretty decent at. You can tell instantly when a coyote takes off running whether it's gonna stop or not. Plus I play the odds...I will take my chances killing a running coyote under 200 yards over the chance the thing "might" run out there and stop one last time at 250-300 yards. Those longer shots with thermal are definitely not gimmes like they are in a day scope so that comes into play as well.

@@GeoffNemnich well...it's been my experience hunting thermal at night, more often than not they will stop inside 200, either on their own or if i stop them. It's also different with multiple shooters on stand. I hunt solo a lot. I also believe coyotes behave just a little differently at night. For me a standing shot @ 250 is still a higher percentage shot than a runner at 175. But im not as good on runners as you are. You can still shoot with precision in thermal if you get to know your equipment. But....To each their own I guess. I do enjoy all the great content. Don't think I've missed an episode. I meant no disrespect to your experience.

I just got my first lucky duck revolt. I live in canada and have been trying to hunt thick bush surrounded by soy bean feilds. I know there are lots of coyotes in there but can call them in even when watching my sent diligently. Any advice? What would I recommend for a call sequence for this area? Do u guy wait in between calls or just call for a couple minutes then switch to a different call with no wait in between?

Unfortunately man it could be a 100 different things happening as to why you can't call one in. Just gotta keep after it and eventually you'll figure put what works and what doesn't. I run the call continuously.

Yeah lots of night hunters in Kansas now since the season started last yr! We were in north central part if state

So Wednesday this week I went out at and called coyotes just blew up just barking everywhere and I went out tonight Friday 4th not a sound and never seen one but we have a front and a storm moving in with 20mph winds are coyotes affected by fronts like other animals rookie here trying to figure it

Do you guys ever use hand calls as a last resort? I've called to coyotes and have them howling and hung up at 400 yards a lot and I'll throw everything at them and nothing. Pull out my hand calls rabbit in distress and a few minutes later they pop out and are coming hard.

Yes they come faster, in more numbers, arent spooked as easy and a lot more bolder, especially where higher human activity, farmground compared to vast rangeground If you are a calling addict, you may find yourself turning vampire if not carefull

If you are not precision shooting with with a thermal, you are using the wrong thermal.
