4 days in Sifnos with Diana :)

Ughh...I really don't enjoy writing description boxes.
I'm going to utilise this one for Sifnos recommendations:
Airbnb:
The best place to stay is Kamares (ie the port of Sifnos). We stayed in the Cycladic home hosted by Nick and our experience was fantastic. The hospitality was top notch, they gave us the best recommendations and the location was ideal.
In general I would advise you to stay near the port if you can because it avoids the stress of commuting on your departure date.
Transport:
Sifnos has an exceptional bus service for an island and there are multiple stops in Kamares. The buses go to both Artemonas and Appolonia and most beaches. Just make sure you check the timetable which can easily be found by googling 'Sifnos bus timetable'.
We never used a taxi, however the Airbnb host advised us to ask how much the distance costs before we tell them how many people we are. Taxi drivers on Greek islands can be sly and charge 2 people more than 1 person, for an equal distance. Make sure you ask the taxi driver to use a meter when driving.
Beaches:
Chrysopigi - if you are short on time feel free to skip this one, however it does have a beautiful church.
Platis Gialos beach - 15 min (uphill then downhill) walk away from Chrysopigi or one bus stop if you catch the bus on time.
We ate at Cyclades restaurant, Diana loved the revithada (chickpea stew) they served. You can take the sunbeds near the restaurant, which belong to the rooms next to it but nobody noticed when we did it so we used them for free.
Vathi beach - my personal favourite! Here you should eat at Manolis restaurant.
City centers and nightlife:
Kastro - this place is a must see at sunset, especially the church of the Seven Martyrs, you will be mind-blown and the videos in my vlog really don't do it justice.
If you have a chance you should have a drink at Kouvanos bar, this place is very well known with 5 euro cocktails and the most beautiful view!
Appolonia - this is the main city center, from my understanding. It has beautiful island streets, stunning (extremely expensive) jewelry shops and rooftop bars.
Artemonas - this is a beautiful place to visit during the day to appreciate its natural beauty, however it really comes alive at night. We had dessert at the yellow bicycle. The interior is stunning but both mine and Diana's desserts were very mediocre and overpriced. If I were to go again I would go for proper dinner at Kafe Mosaiko.
Places to eat:
Appolonia - Kafeneion Drakakis - It is what we call a mezedopoleio in Greece which means it serves small plates. Let me tell you it was delicious. We got the fava, dolmades (must try if you are in Greece in general, they are vine leaves stuffed with rice or mince meat and served with yogurt sauce), mushrooms with halloumi (you can give these a miss) and potatoes (these were amazing but unfortunately not pictured in the vlog). A glass of white wine in the Greek islands is usually 5 euros.
Cyclades Restaurant (see above)
Manolis Restaurant (see above)
Budgeting:
Greek islands have gotten hella spenny, but a good way to save money is to get baked good and fruit from the supermarket for breakfast or as beach snacks and then have one proper restaurant meal a day at around 5-6 pm.
Buses are usually around 2-2.5 euros and the Airbnb was around 35 pounds a night per person.
Things I wish we had time to do:
The Airbnb host suggested we get a taxi to Agios Simeon, which apparently the most beautiful sunset spot on the island. However because we were trying to maximise the days we weren't able to get back in time for sunset. Were we to go again, it would have definitely been top of our list.
Chersonissos beach - we just never put it on the itinerary and only found it online, on the boat to Milos. It looks like a cute fisherman's village with crystal blue waters so definitely deserved a spot on the itinerary (the bus also goes there).

Nice vlog, thank you. In about 3 weeks I am going, alone, to Sifnos. The last time I have been there was in 2001 and the first time was in 1989. So long time ago. I stay 3 days in Vathi, 3 in Kastro en 4 in Exambela. I am looking forward.

Did you go in August or September? We are going mid September and want a lively island. Worried places may be closed.
