Like last year over the summer I went to Chesterton again this summer and brought along Coastlinerail Productions and WorldwideRailfan. We had a great 4 days there and we saw a lot of unique catches.
Here are just some of the trains that we saw; NS 10R with a ATSF warbonnet. NS 16G with a SD70M that won’t be around for too much longer. NS 33G with an Ex-NS GP38-2 that is now owned by FURX. NS 12N with a CEFX AC44CW. NS 21E with the Conrail heritage unit. Amtrak 29 with 145 leading. NS 21V with the Lackawanna heritage unit leading. NS 26T with the Conrail heritage unit leading. NS Z7Z with a BNSF H1 Dash-9. NS 21J with the Lehigh valley heritage unit leading. NS 61E showing off some old Canadian National locomotives. NS 34G with SVGX 7409 a ghost SW1200RS (I have no clue what the future holds for this locomotive). NS 26T with a new SD70ACC leading. CP 140 with a CEFX AC44CW. NS power move 961 (they are only a few power moves a week through Chesterton). NS 20Q with the LV heading back east. NS/UP power move 960 (Second power move of the evening). CP 651 with a CP Rail SD40-2 (The days are numbered for this locomotive) CP 140 with a CEFX AC44CW leading. NS/BNSF 963 power move with with a familiar ATSF warbonnet (third power move of the evening). NS B08 running off schedule running lite back to Burns Harbor. Amtrak 49 with 3 private cars.
This trip ended up being way better than anticipated especially considering how precision scheduled railroading has made drastic changes to Norfolk Southern in the past year. Lastly at 14:38you can see NS 21G with AC44C6M 4164 trailing and partially in primer paint. However the next train which is about an hour later and heading in the opposite direction has 4164 leading. There is a logical answer... (Hint: Think about the gap of time there was between these two trains). As always thank you for watching!
