Johnathan: Personally it sounds like he couldn't go on any longer. Being a veteran myself, having my own issues and knowing those who have unfortunately taken things into their own hands. His words to his wife, ring even louder now. For a lot of combat guys, you take us out of combat and we're like Ricky Bobby, we don't know what to do with our hands. Sounds like John was able to stave off those feelings for a bit via his work as an officer and at that time, a healthy relationship with his wife and kids. If one of those foundational pieces is taken away like the loving relationship with a spouse, it can cripple the toughest of men. That's what really worries me about his case in particular. Everyone from his family says "oh there's no way he'd kill himself, he's tough as they come or as nails". Being that tough is so taxing on your psyche. It breeds hatred towards any weakness, can cripple your ability to relate to others and will just destroy your existence. It really sounds like this was a blow that he just wasn't able to get up from. I hate to say it but it's the most logical option. Yes, there was no expense spared in looking for him but looking at how well you have to be able to navigate by land to be a green beret, there is plenty of spots where he could have gone to, where nobody would ever find him.

One are you ok, let us know. 2 I doubt that's the case listening to his story it sounds like whoever had the green bag shot and killed jonathan. Reason I say this if he is a well know officer that goes into shoot outs it is possible that an individual could easily put a hit out on him. Since he was going out on runs it makes an easy target, he repeated his schedule..told his family and I'm pretty sure other people so yeah.

I'm a solo traveler and so that last one hit me different. I've had people try to jump me before or try to rob me, but I'm a big guy so generally it doesn't take much to scare them off. I travel to random small places mostly and don't spend much time in big cities, but I can definitely see something like that happening in places with high wealth disparity. There is a lot of preying on solo female travelers everywhere, and I feel terrible that something as wonderful as solo travel can't be experienced without an extra layer of precaution for people who happen to have vaginas.

Yeah, I’d say among all the missing people, he was the, well, strangest character. People who voluntarily run 100 miles in a single day are people capable of crazy rash action. I could feel the disconnect in the photo of him and his daughter. It could just be a bad photo, taken in a sudden instant he wasn’t expecting. But he seemed so well trained, and disciplined, by the military and himself. A killer couldn’t ask for a more dangerous opponent. One shot. Would have had to really make it count. I hope it wasn’t suicide, as he was going through some tough times. I’d like to think he is in Alaska, with a beard and new identity, maybe communicating, or looking to communicate discreetly with his daughter, but who knows?

Everyone always says "he/she would never do this or that" but time and time again have many cases shown their assumptions to be very wrong. Im generalising of course but no one really knows what someone is truly feeling in their heart/mind. Im sure theres things that people assume about all of us that we know are not true but not another living soul does. Im not saying his family/friends are wrong for assuming he would never leave or kill himself but they're not mind readers theres no way anyone but him could truly know him. Referring to the first case.

When I was in high school I would sneak out etc. I was an honor student, went to church and for the most part always obeyed my parents and never did drugs or get into trouble. Doesn't quite explain why his body was never found, though; maybe animals got to him? Second story: Disgruntled employee, or an assassin. Maybe the plant was involved in shady stuff? Third story: I think she planned to run off with the guy friend, but he tricked her into getting trafficked somewhere down the line. Fourth story: she might have been trafficking drugs for extra money and messed up or tried to get out of it somehow. The money she withdrew could have been to escape or to make up the difference lost?

The research says they are more likely to kill with poison so that part doesn’t make sense. However as the video points out maybe the difference in access to weaponry changes what they use. Standings are usually associated with intimate crimes of passion and rage driven homicide.

I was thinking it had something to do with the male friend as well. Possibly when he realized the mom wasn't home, he had the victim let him back in after the 2nd girl was already passed out. There could have been more drinking, then an attempt at sexual assault, and ultimately either a fatal accident or murder when she started fighting back. Depending on how trashed the 2nd girl was, she could have slept through all of it. Lightbulbs might have been the male friend covering his escape in some way?

@@serialzero1979 I was wondering about him. I think it's easy to come to the conclusion that he might have been involved somehow and then couldn't live with the guilt. Then again, maybe he was just in the wrong girl's house on the wrong night. And we have to remember that lots of people commit suicide and it has nothing to do with feeling guilty about a crime. Rather, it's depression. It's possible he even blamed himself for what happened because he may have felt guilty that he left the girls alone only to find out that his friend was abducted. He may have wondered if things would have been different if he'd stayed. Some people feel guilty about things that aren't even their fault.

Hi Lazy. I just want to mention that Laureen apparently had 2 male friends. This was confirmed by mysef through the daughter of the female friend as well as Laureen's mother. I have tried to communicate this with other people who have covered this case but with no luck. I strongly feel one of them did it. Perhaps when they were leaving. Laureen only used the back door and did not wear any shoes (suggesting she planned on coming back). I am unsure as to why there was miscommunication on the second male but I can provide proof if needed.

For the first story: I think the most likely outcome is that the guy was killed. The fact that a gunshot was heard closeby the area where he was last spotted seems much to unlikely to chalk it up to coincidence. Suicide also seems unlikely to me, because if he had killed himself and the search parties were as extensive as that, surely someone would have found him. Especially because they had a rough idea of which area the gunshot was heard in. Had it been a suicide, they would have found him. It makes more sense if someone else killed him and the moved the body, which explains why he was never found.

Wasn't there talk of police corruption in that story? Is it possible there was evidence of murder, but that it was covered up? Hero cop finds big drug hideout in the woods, goes to expose it, gets intercepted by corrupt cops and/or druglords, murdered, then the body is disposed of, and the evidence is eliminated.

I heard that suicidal people usually don't have the energy to actually go through with it, but sometimes their brain suddenly kicks into overdrive to make them do it, but once the brain is out of that mode, the desire fades, and that's why a lot of people whose suicide attempts fail end up feeling relieved. Can't say for sure how true that is, though.

I don't know why, but that case reminds me of the Scream Killers case from Idaho, I believe. These two teenage guys wanted to recreate the Scream movies. They and another male friend hung out with a female friend one of them had a crush on. They left at some point in the night, leaving only the girl and the other male friend, and then the electricity went out. The remaining male friend stuck around until his mother came, and then left her alone. When the girl's parents came home later, they found her murdered. The lights had been deliberately switched off downstairs. The boys were eventually caught and admitted to wanting to kill her to reenact the Scream movies. The idiots even filmed themselves on camera planning the murder. The third male friend had an alibi, as his mother had picked him up and taken him home, and seen the girl alive. The two 'Scream killers' admitted they had snuck back into her house and disabled the lights, and then went upstairs and killed her. This case reminds me a lot of that. I am not necessarily blaming the guy that left. Who knows why he committed suicide. Perhaps he suffered from survivors guilt? Perhaps he had some other mental health issues? Perhaps he was involved in some shady activities, and the people in the hall targeted him and his friends, and he felt guilty? Or maybe he had nothing to do with it. Perhaps it was somebody from school, or a friend if a friend who was a criminal. Who knows for real. All I know is, if it was a total stranger, they wouldn't be bold enough to target random girls in an apartment, and to unscrew the light bulbs. I know it has happened, but it is likely someone familiar with her. Perhaps they unscrewed the light bulbs in the hallway so that she couldn't see anyone through the peephole, or that neighbors couldn't see her being escorted out, or that anyone leaving the building would be ambushed in the dark. We may never know.

Devil's Punchbowl is not that remote or not well-trafficked area. It's in Angeles National Forest and, even though it has been closed due to recent wildfires, it's a pretty well-known area attraction for people here in Southern California/LA area. The idea that he killed himself while hiding himself so well that a massive search wouldn't have found ANY trace of him strikes me as... Implausible. Not impossible, but definitely not very likely. The idea of him being executed by drug dealers or other enemies, some possibly operating from inside Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, is plausible, but still unlikely. I think the theory that dude just wanted to disappear is probably the most likely, as strange as that is to consider. I mean, at least, if he's legally presumed dead, he'd have no messy divorce to go through, no legal fees and no alimony/child support to pay. He really would be getting a clean break and would be able to start all over again a-fresh. That, combined with his cryptic "have a nice life"comment, seems to make the most sense to me, IMHO.

The second story doesn't sound at all like blind rage, but a cold and methodical killer. Knives are incredibly dangerous in 1v1, but usually if multiple victims are involved, they either manage to injure him, or run off. This means that he was most likely stealthy and picked them up one after the other before a corpse was found, except for the one who managed to drive off... If he had used compliance, he would have forced one of them to tie up the others and in this case all the corpses would be in the same place with marks of their binding... Technically, compliance is the easier route, but it's likely that the killer was not confident in controlling multiple people at once, as if they see his intent, he wouldn't be able to stop them all...

If you make a mess, you create chaos which would make it harder for you as well, with a few exceptions. Sure, you could mess with the lighting and cause someone to go to the fuse box, or make sure that everyone goes to the parking lot by triggering the fire alarm. However, he didn't want to get everyone moving, nor move randomly... BTW: my father ran off with our money and documents, but later broke into our old home and started moving things. First, it was apparent that he was searching for something, then it was clearly to mess with us. It's called gaslighting. He didn't make a huge mess but tried to get us to question our sanity. Later, he put an animal carcass on the kitchen table, AFTER we had exchanged the locks! At that point, he had also stolen a lot of my valuables and soon thereafter my cat died under mysterious circumstances... I hate this man.

I think she probably did wind up in prostitution. Maybe trafficked to another country. What’s more intriguing to me is the start of the mystery - why she went off on her own suddenly, without telling anyone and why she picked where she did. Did she just want time away to clear her head? Or to travel on her own? Why not just say to her travel companions, or email them? If she was going to go and traffick drugs or whatever to Hong Kong, she didn’t know until close to the trip that they would go. Did she want to run away and got in with a local gang when she tried to get work? Like when people are hired to be “maids” and it’s not? That part to me is most mysterious and odd. I don’t doubt a reason for wanting to run, I mean, everyone had problems that us strangers or even family would know NOTHING about. And Hong Kong seems, from past stories, an easy city to just become a new person in, for better or worse.

Obviously Lazy could not possibly cover everything here so I really hope he doesn’t mind if I add a supplementary video for people more interested in Ani’s case. There’s a lot more to this, including her family refusing to releasing the last photos taken of her, etc. The more that is revealed, the more questions come up. There are only 4 possible reasons people go missing: 1. Missing by their own volition (running away from home to start a new life) 2. Missing due to an unfortunate accident (e.g person falls into body of water, drowns and their body is never recovered). 3. Missing as a result of suicide (person ends their life and their body is never recovered) 4. Missing as a result of foul play (kidnapping, murder, sex trafficking, the possibilities are endless).

In Laureen's case, I have to imagine that the most likely suspect would be either an employee of the building management or a contractor who held onto a key or something. If they were able to get at the bulbs, they likely would've needed a flashlight and access to a ladder at least. Someone doing maintenance at night might annoy the neighbours, but wouldn't raise as many red flags as some random guy(s) just entering the building with a flashlight and a ladder. It also seems weird that they would've happened to pick the night Laureen was home alone - but a building employee or maintenance worker might have already been on the premises when they saw the mother leave and the friends arrive. Then there's the question of the unlocked door even though both girls were asleep; maybe Laureen could've woken up and opened the door at a knock, but an employee or contractor could've entered quietly without arousing suspicion, perhaps even taking Laureen while she was out cold due to the alcohol. Lastly, that second case a few blocks away: management companies and/or landlords often own multiple properties in an area, and of course contractors have even more access around the neighbourhood. So it would make sense if the perp had easy access to both properties because of their job. Perhaps they even took that job precisely because it allowed easy access to potential victims' properties. (Although that woman disappeared from a bar, there are many ways access to property could've made it easier to take her; it's hard to know if it's related without more details.) They should've looked long and hard at the management and at everyone the management had recently hired.

And Ben Shapiro's "law and order" is exactly the opposite to your idea of "freedom". It's what the US Government you love and semper fi to is doing right now in cities like Portland. Americans are being actually lynched, taken away by unmarked black SUVs and never be seen again. Just like how your government accuses other countries. They just take what they do, and point fingers. For American, the "diversity of ideas" are just Huxley's brave new world, as long as it benefit the rich and powerful, anything is allowed. And Look what it brought to America. Chaos. I had just moved back to Hong Kong at the same time Ani Ashedian disappeared. The case was particularly intriguing because, like you said, we are a relatively safe city with very low crime rates...but i think that also shows how well-hidden the dark, underbelly side of an "advanced" society is. I still regularly check up on whether this story has new developments and hope to God that it will be solved soon. p.s. I DO NOT agree with the Wan Chai statement. It is not "seedy" in any sense of the word, at least not more so than many parts of Hong Kong, i.e. Jordan's Temple Street, Mong Kok's Portland Street, etc.
