4/4 Britains Most Fragile Treasure

First broadcast: Oct 2011.
Historian Dr Janina Ramirez unlocks the secrets of a centuries-old masterpiece in glass. At 78 feet in height, the famous East Window at York Minster is the largest medieval stained-glass window in the country and it was the creative vision of a single artist, a mysterious master craftsman called John Thornton, one of the earliest named English artists.

Wonderful production, as an individual with an art history degree and a fair amount of technical information at my disposal, I would enjoy more of the technical sides presented regarding the restoration. I say this, with no distain for what has been presented, rather, only with more desire for more information. Fantastic !

I wonder what happens to the old pieces that have been discarded due to restoration?. Are they still kept?. My heart stopped watching the Narrator handling the ancient glass. I would have folded like a deck of cards.

York minster has huge archieves. All pieces are retained in this. (Not the lead though)
