Also because Simpler does not let you control amp envelope curvature, instead automate the volume macro in the template and control the curvature in the automation lane. Please reduce your chain volumes to -36db to compensate for the +36db range on the volume macro.

Hey, I found your channel from your reddit post and I want you to know that your music is very good and to never give up on your dreams. It may seem hopeless at some times, but you just have to persevere.

UPDATE: I've actually found an improvement on this method. I've stoped mapping the amp envelope attack to the length knob and started modulating the chain volume. This lets you see the volume curves more clearly, create non-ADSR shapes, and it's quicker. I still map the filter and pitch envelopes to that knob which is nice because it lets the sweeps be timed independantly of the volume envelope.

Awww Thanks!! I did update this technique, FWIW. I do away with all the ADSR mapping and instead map the mod wheel to control volume, that way you can draw in custom curves with mod wheel automation. I also use 16 knobs and the new snapshots feature. I've been meaning to make a new video on this (and a dozen others lol), but I've been so focused on my music and performing, marketing, etc., and actually gaining some decent traction. I'm even headlining a smaller festival here in CO, and got on a few other festival lineups, playing a mansion party with Skysia... Big improvement to largely being a studio hermit.

Oh btw, a little special request- if you should find the time for it and are interested in this sort of devices: I'm currently considering buying either "Hatz" by Thenatan or "Hattricks" by Diginoiz. Both devices to turn hi hat patterns into playable instruments. I tried building something like this as an ableton rack but havent been successful yet, maybe you have an idea or two regarding this. Anyway, good going mate!

@@rt5u yeah that's easy enough. punch-in midi effects like that are pretty straight forward with midi racks (split the chains by key, but an arp on each on). Midi effects are super resource efficient, btw, basically free. Sending 1000 notes at a sampler, on the other hand, won't be. Pair that up with the Sampler controls and a 128 of hats and you've got something basically the same but kinda better as it's native.

@@rt5u Thank you! A lot of Global/Tribal Bass, but also other stuff. I don't focus on genre so much as emotional storytelling, imagery, and exploration. Anyway, MissingLynx.us will get you access to a bunch of it, but tbh I have 5 hours of original music I play in my sets, and it covers a really broad gammut across all energy levels.

ahhh this is so great! i've been using audio for my pre-transients which is always a little time consuming, leaving me to procrastinate that part until the very end.. definitely will be using this. thank you for sharing!

Yeah, I love it. It literally takes a few seconds to add one off pre-transients throughout your song and the added power of the quick layering and macro knobs and pre-selecting a few hundred awesome textures tends to get me cooler things then I would have come up with by just adding them with audio clips as im writing

Your channel is super awesome, thank you so much! Subscribed (of course) I actually don't use Ableton, but do mostly hardware-based jams and I use Renoise. Plus Reaper So I think I might try to apply some of your ideas in reaper.

Thank you! My partner Grittim is a super talented Reaper producer. Great DAW. We may drop some Reaper tutorials on the Boombox Crush channel, or he may start his own. Feel free to drop him a line on a discord if you want to pick his brain: discord.gg/6gVWEjEymK
