Most people will probably hate me for this but I think they sound WAY better now that Honey (or whatever her name is) is gone. She didn't really fit into the whole group (vocal-wise and in terms of group-dynamic) and I get the feeling that she was just included because she was a girl. All of the guys (Layne and Geoff included) have awesome and very nice voices (singing voices) and still she is the main in most of their "sing off"-performances. I know why Geoff (Bass) and Layne (Percussion) don't get the main vocals, since it is not their "role", but Eli, Tony and Earl are perfectly capable to take the lead very successfully.

I think they added Honey for the versatility aspect. Its hard to change it up without a unique member that stands out. But yea, they do sound great either way imo.

it was so beautiful! he is such a great singer, all of them are of course. but when he did that, you could feel his emotion so terrifying good!

That whole part at 2:58 with the complex harmonies in the back, until the end made this performance great(and that’s with Honey NOT fitting their sound). Don’t get me wrong Honey can sing very beautifully, but she needs her own niche.

Ellie's high note SERIOUSLY reminded me of Mitch. SERIOUSLY.

Yes, definitely. But it didn't come with the impact of the rest of the Dog Days performance... but hey, it's early yet.

I think this group was the most overlooked of all of the top 10 shown this year. VoicePlay was quite versatile and reminded me of Pentatonix, and not just because of the make-up of the group (4 guys one girl.) Their arrangemnets were daring as were their harmonies. I suspect that if the Sing off had gone the full 12 weeks as in season 2 and 3 instead of condensing 7 weeks into 3, we might have enjoyed more of this great sound. Even their Christmas tune from the box on the finale showed great innovation.

Honestly, I really like Voiceplay, but I don't think she blends into the group very well. I don't know, maybe with Rachel Potter by their side they could have done better.

Marcello Bass yeah she really took away from showing off what the guys could do. I bet they could have done a lot better had they been just the five guys showing what they could do

Voice Play is my favorite group because they are so entertaining

I would be interested in seeing VoicePlay go back to The Sing Off with their current roster - they're certainly much better now than they were back then.

I agree, Geoff wasn't given the chance to shine. Geoff is just as good as Tim & can hit all the subsonic notes that Tim can hit

Honey's voice again suited this song. And yeah, I loved how they kind of didn't let their tendency to remix each song affect this one. They were more true to the track while still throwing in part of themselves in there, especially in that break down.

They nailed this!

Honey would be a lot better as a solo artist and the boys remaining a acapella group. My opinion🤷‍♀️😭

Still so good!! Love this. Became a VP fan after this show.

What is amazing is how far they have advanced, since. In this, for example, I don't think I heard one note from Geoff. He brings rare skills to the group, but they don't contribute. Although similar, Tim in Home Free, is far more effective in this show. They evolve in the right direction!!

Why must people be so disparaging? Honestly their are vast differences in the two groups but comparing one to the other diminishes the quality of their individual musicalities.

I always felt that while Honey gave them a lot of arrangement options some ways she really limited the group in others.

I wish I knew all their names already, but it was weird when Honey was singing to the little guy, her side profile, the way she held her mouth, she looked like Gwen for those few seconds, and she did at another point too.

I read somewhere that Geoff didn't start out as a basso profundo, but considered himself more of a deep baritone. I also saw his video where he details some of the exercises he's used over the years to develop his lower register. So, I'm wondering if he had the full set of chops back then that are on such prominent display today? He looks like a little kid here (could be the hair, or lack thereof... lol). So maybe the reason he didn't get the spotlight we all today think he deserved, could be group dynamics and the blending problems Honey seemed to have with them all, but then again maybe 'Mr E1' had not yet arrived?

I think it was Tim Foust during the 4th season of the Sing-Off who taught him how to access the really low notes using the growl technique.

@@glennjanot8128 No, why do people always confuse this tim only taught Geoff growls he didn't teach him to go lower and especially not subharmonics he got lower because of his hard work on his voice the last 5-10 years don't disregard Geoff's efforts on tim

She's good, but she doesn't work with the rest of the group, it just doesn't fit!!

I like Honey and her voice, but I think VP would have won Sing Off with their current line-up and J.None and Rachel Potter or Ashley Dianne Edit: I think VP learned a lot about themselves and performing from this show

How come the guys later went on to work without the girl? Also, how long have the guys each known each other?

C P In my opinion, she dragged them down a little. She doesn’t blend well with them and they sound better without her. They have done songs with Rachel Potter and they sound amazing with her. And they have been singing together since high school

Home free definitely has the structure PTX has, like the crazy trio and beast bass and percussion but arrangement-wise they're on a league of their own, probably because they are a country acapella band

The creative approach of HF is comparable to PTX but that's it...the way they use their 'vocal trio' to fill spaces, set up transitions, etc is VERY different from PTX. And them doing distinctly different genres (with the accent to boot) further separates their sound in my ear.

Louie Kem Babaran This performance was up there with a PTX performance but sadly They're not as consistent as PTX and Home free. Thus why they didn't make it. but the components based on this performance was there.

I'm not a Huge fan of this performance. I mean ballads are nice but they kind of just sang the song. The vocals were amazing but the arrangement wasn't anything spectacular to me but still really great B

Music is communication and the way Honey sang it was difficult to understand the words where the guys sing and annunciate clearly....y'all are right she didn't fit and for me it ruined the song.
