this trick is actually used on the 3d billboard ads on big tv in japan to make 3d illusion

I honestly didn't expect this to actually work as well as it does. 3D is still magnitudes better with glasses, but this isn't bad!

This is a great demonstration about how our brain perceives background and foreground, even in a 2d space.

I reccomend watching it in 0.25 playback to really see how it works. This is amazing. Imagine this in some cartoon style movie like spider verse

It would only work for specific scenes, and the black bars are really distracting, but it does work quite well.

The frame gives the video a set depth so when an object surpasses that depth it creates the illusion of 3d nice

If you know how to create the illusion of of depth in art you know that glasses are not needed for 3d effects. How you overlap your shapes and how you use color and light matter more in my opinion. In other words its all about how you plan your composition

It does work. The effect is less pronounced than actual 3d, but it's cool nonetheless. If you can't see it, there's something wrong with your brain, or your eyes, or both. :p

Close one of your eyes. This restricts your ability to determine the distance of objects, so an object on a 2D plane that’s getting larger can look 3D.

this is an interesting technique for depth perception. probably better for a final product to not have the bars, but seems like a solid aid in getting it right
