Hi, Yes, this would be possible with FlowAlongSrf. The rigid option may also be useful to prevent added density in this case.

Hi ... if all the objects to be printed should be unroll first? Or can be directly in play with gumbal? Because we need only one side only, then from Top view we can get one side we want it then we live print. What is the difference between unroll by turning gumball alone especially for flat object for print requirement? Anyone can explain?

Rhinoguide any idea if there is a way to project an image upon the polygon and then when you unwrap the polygon have the image appear on the 2D image so that once you build the model again the image is seamless?

try exporting a flat pdf and using pepakura to automatically work out tab placement, probably much faster.

Hello guys! If you realy want to make ur 3d model in paper u can use Pepakura Designer. Very simple programm. Pepakura automatically unwrap ur model and making flaps. Also u can make ur unwrap on papercraft-maker . com. If u have some qustions just ask me here.

Nice tutorial, but the last set of tabs were placed on the wrong set of edges, making them redundant and leaving half the middle edges without any connection.

Does the newest version of Rhino still have this feature? If so, is there any plug-in's or additional software needed to create 3D shapes to then unfold and print them?

Hi Matt, yes this should still work in Rhino 7. I haven't looked into pattern making plugins to automate it but www.food4rhino.com/ would be the spot to search. The plugins for footwear there might be a good place to start.

You can use Squish as one method for flattening doubly curved surfaces. Expansion and contraction are relative elements based on material properties though so keep that in mind. Posting to the Rhino user forum with sample files would be a good way to get feedback on the right approach for your project. discourse.mcneel.com/

i mean, if i had only letter size paper to print to, and a project lets says 25x25 inches so it needs to print in 8.5x11 by section with overlap. i dunno if you get what i mean... hehehe

  • @RhinoGuide

Hi, UnrollSrf is for surfaces and polysurfaces only. You could use the command Squish on a mesh object or alternately use the command Unwrap to UV unwrap the mesh > view that in the UVeditor command > extract the unwrapped meshes with ExtractUVMesh.
