+מישל תם Oh yes, that's typical!!! When one boy chooses a design, all the other boys usually want the exact same thing afterwards 😉 Congratulations! I personally find it hard to paint this design fast at an event.

In your tutorial you take alot of time working out where the legs go. I see no reason to. I just flick 3 times for each as you taught in the general forward direction for 2 fronts and downward for the back legs. Also add a cob web at the corner off eye. Just love it. Thanks again. Michelle from israel
Most of the black widow spiders in my area are even smaller, often being so small that you have to look closely to see the red hour glass.

That is true but my eyesight does not enable me to paint such tiny insects. Also, it wouldn't be as effective and spooky if it was true to size. Thanks for your feedback and have a great Halloween!

is there anyway you can give a slower step by step of this. especially when it comes to the legs of the spider
@SophiesTipps
8 жыл бұрын
+Jessica Lopez Gonzales I know that it goes a bit fast towards the end but I try to keep my videos under 10 minutes and it was hard with this one... Once you've placed the reference dots of the legs, you just need to link them to the body of the spider in three segments (2 long teardrops and one dagger stroke). Don't worry if the legs of your spider are not exactly like mine, there are lots and lots of possible placements. Just give it a try and you will be positively surprised 👍

@SophiesTipps
8 ай бұрын
I have made other videos about my favorite paints and where to buy them. If you live in the States, you can check out sillyfarm.com. I recommend a strong black, like the one from Diamond FX. But you can also achieve this design with a regular black eye makeup pencil from the drugstore. It will be a bit trickier to paint but it's feasable. Good luck!
It too realistic if you consider that black widow red marks are usually underneath the abdomen, not the top. Other than that, I like it.
@SophiesTipps
2 жыл бұрын
Indeed you are right, I just checked. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
1.5” black widow?! What part of the world do you live? We have tons of black widows in my yard and they are half that size.
@SophiesTipps
8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your insight but I am quite aware, Face painting is all about fantasy and fun, and is sometimes only remotely inspired by reality. A true to size black widow would not be effective if the goal is to create a truly spooky (and visible) design. Feel free to paint it smaller if you'd like. Btw, I live in Germany and we have no black widows around 😛

@SophiesTipps
7 жыл бұрын
Really? Oh my Goodness you're right (I just checked again). A lot of illustrations show the red marking on the back though because it wouldn't be visible otherwise and that's what confused me.. Thanks for pointing it out, I just learned something new. 👍
@MommyOfZoeAndLiam
7 жыл бұрын
SophiesTips Not a big deal. Most people wouldn't even know that. Most people will only ever see the hourglass when a female spider is on its web, or if it's dead and curled up. I only even pointed it out because it is SUCH A REALISTIC painting otherwise. I especially love how the shadowing makes the body look low almost touching the skin.
@SophiesTipps
7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It's so funny because the shadowing is actually the easiest part of this design but it's also what has the biggest impact. You're absolutely right, the confusion with the hourglass red marking does come from the fact that this spider is usually photographed from underneath, standing on her web. I actually realised this after looking at the pictures more closely. So happy I've learned that thanks to you. I am always trying to stay true to nature as much as possible but art does allow some room for "free interpretation", I guess. 😉
