Also Saturn 2 is just insane. Like how on earth can you get a printer with 10 inch 8k screen for like 600€? It's twice as good as Saturn and last year that was already bit of a bargain when it comes to machines with bigger build plates, which are perfect for big monsters or for printing several smaller models at the same time.

I'm using Lychee and it has this fun optional feature where you can enter the cost per litre of the resin you use and it calculates the amount of resin used per sliced scene and how much it costs. It's pretty fun to just see the numbers after the slicing is done and go like: "Oh nice, I just got a proxy model for something worth 100€ for about 4€ and I prefer the look too."

  • @BarokaiRein

    @BarokaiRein

    Жыл бұрын

@@IAcePTI The cleaning fluid I use is red ethanol and it costs like 10€ per 4 litre bottle and I change it like 3 times a year at most, usually just filtering it does the trick. It goes pretty long way when you've got two different tubs and use the first one to just rinse off loose resin and second one to actually cleaning the models. So I spend about 30€ on cleaning fluid annually. That's less than a box of space marines. Electricity cost for one printer is basically not even noticeable in my bills. Like it doesn't even compare to how much power my PC consumes so honestly lychee doesn't need to add all that up. Also as the cost of electricity goes up so will GWs operating cost, which means they will hike up the prices accordingly. I'm thousands of euros in the green with the machine even when you add everything, including the cost of Saturn into the mix.

My advice is get the printer that offers spare parts in the country you live in. My first printer was a sonic mini as shown in the video. The replacement screen was not available in Australia as soon as the 4k model came out so therefore had to be purchased direct from Phrozen. The cost of the new lcd screen including shipping was nearly the price of a new one. I ended up just giving it away for free and got an Anycubic given they have spare parts available locally at a reasonable price.

I dove right into it a few years ago and there is a bit of a learning curve. It's nice the lycee slicer has those community settings now, that helps... but there isn't very much useful content on youtube to help you get your printer up and running, at least not that I have found... now don't get me wrong, there are a few channels that do produce great 3d printer content, but you really gotta dig to get to them.. My experience with 3d printing has been quite the journey... I'm glad I have one, but it has it's headaches too. Make sure if you're reading this comment an debating getting a 3d printer and end up buying one, ALWAYS and i mean ALWAYS, get 3d files that come presupported, it will save you so much time. Cheers, great video... thanks for sharing.

I've been using an old Anycubic Photon. The original Photon. No mods. Bone stock orginal right off the manufacturing line original. My wash station has been left over cat treat containers. The cure station is a cardboard box that came from a ream of printer paper. The box has aluminum foil on the inside, a string of LED black lights, and one big black light. Simple and cheap. Eventually I'll get a bigger better machine. But until then I'm mostly making this work for me.

I use mine mainly for terrain... GW charges $80 for a killteam terrain set... for the price of 4 terrain sets you could afford a 3D printer and literally have a portal to unlimited terrain! Yes, there is a bit of a learning curve... but terrain also doesn't need to be as pretty as minis so I have actually saved failed prints because they failed in a "melty" way that actually added to its look. If you have a solid computer and some patience, you too can create basically anything your heart desires.

But I still can't deny the quality on even on my older resin printers compared to my fdm printers. I use both still as each have their benefits. I have not yet found a reason to upgrade my older machines. The main thing that will make me upgrade is my machine dies or there is a massive speed increase. Like when we went from RGB to mono screen. That was pretty good speed increase.

You didn't even need to import settings since OPR gives their printing settings (and they are Vroom settings os it will print a bit faster). I used them and only had a partial fail (half of a spear supports that didn't stick, probably a temperature issue), the rest came out great. OPR Supports are really really good, the only risk being breaking parts of the mini if you don't use warm water.

Yeah. I'm really suprised he didn't mention safety. Lung damage from long term resin fumes exposure is really dangerous. You really don't want resin fumes wafting around your house or in your bedroom. I wouldn't consider it unless I had a separate work space, like a shed. I certainly wouldn't sit next to one all day painting. I'm guessing Luke hasn't seen the videos of the people who have long term exposure to resin fumes, they can barely breath because their lungs have been coated and find it difficult to make it through the day without feeling exhausted. Really sad. I wish Luke would take his own safety more seriously.

I agree 100% with the wash and cure station. I never wasted my money on one. I think they're completely unnecessary. The day I ordered my first Anycubic Mono I also ordered a pickle tub from Amazon. It has the basket in it and does the job perfectly. I started by curing things in my yard in the sun for a while, but I've since added a little uv light that came with a solar turntable and a metal rig. I put the whole thing into the box it came in, which I lined with tinfoil and I have a curing station for $10.

Dang, I am going to have to try out Lychee. I hate looking up resin / printer settings. The only thing is, no one seems to recognize that humidity levels and temperature also affects the settings. For example, I print in my basement where it is a little cool and I have to add a second or two per layer to compensate. Also, I have to tweak the settings for different makers. For example, I can print faster with Loot Studios but with Broken Anvil I have to add another second or two per layer just because of the way they do the supports.

The print quality is noticeably worse on the things I've been printing, I've had more failures, and cleanup and bed leveling is more of a pain (due to the flat backed print bed and 4 screen system). One thing I never understood is the issue with cleaning and the need for alcohol....just use water washable. All I use is water washable and never had any trouble, the smell is also less and the resin is less toxic as well, which addresses so many issues I noticed people have. Now still best to be safe and wear gloves/mask, but literally the Elegoo water washable I use the most only switching when out of stock and it is as simple as a bit of hot water to get the models cleaned up, no extra alcohol cost.

An even cheaper way is to go with an FDM printer rather than a resin one. You're not messing around with chemicals and fumes and you're spending a fraction of what you spend on a resin printer. Your prints won't be as high-quality as a resin printer, but if you can still get some great detail in the models. I swear by my Ender 3. And if you're printing larger pieces (terrain or large vehicles/monsters) it saves a lot of time and pain.

Call for advice: I used some methylated spirits to clean the polarised film, and for some reason it's left loads of tiny, clear, hard bubbles behind. Screen and eyeglass cleaners don't work, and I'm hesitant to resort to heat. Can anyone help me?

@@GeekGamingScenics Okay, thanks for clearing that up. I haven't yet delved into the 3D printing world just yet, but am very interested. I was looking at Anycubic and Elegoo printers, but have read there was some QA issues with the printers and the 3D prints fail more than usual. Also some software and file format limitations with them. Especially with the Anycubic printers. The two you demo'd were Phrozen models. I'm curious how do they compare with Anycubic or Elegoo brands? I want to print out military vehicles and figures in a 1:32/54mm scale. So I would need something decent enough to printout a tank size something on the scale of 12"x6"x6". Cheers!

How are you supposed to dispose of the ethanol/resin waste effluent?

  • @jeff-rc2ro

Let the resin settle to the bottom of the ethanol for 48 hours. Set it in the sun for a few hours. Siphon of the clear ethanol. Pour the resin sludge onto cardboard. Let it cure in the sun completely and discard.

I can comfortably say I can print 80+ minis including a couple of big unit depending on the supports from 1 resin bottle that’s like $600-700? (depending on your country, here is more like $1000) on GW standards, so definitely cheaper, but GW minis still better quality and more durable

As MrBizteck said, they are in the app. Click on the 3d Printer button then in the pop-up window click add resin and it will bring up community profiles. From my own experience I don't think they are that reliable but your mileage may vary, perhaps the profiles for a Creality HALOT One with Anycubic Resin are just not that good but other printers are.

SLA printing isn’t for everyone but if you’re a little brave and whiling to take the plunge get an Elegoo or Anycubic printer that is atlesst 4k and learn how to use chitubox. It’s not that great of time investment compared to the time we’ve all spent building models. Machines can break, prints can fail and If you’re the type of hobbyist that puts models together poorly, gets in deep with projects to never finish them and give up when something doesn’t come easy this will be another sink hole for you.
