3D Printer, LEGO Mindstorms EV3
TechBricks Michał Ossowski presents:
LEGO Mindstorms EV3 3D printer. Accuracy of prints up to 0,5mm. Additional circuit with Arduino Uno for controlling heating block temperature. Ability of printing any object up to 12,8x,12,8x9cm.

Owning a 3D printer myself this is very impressive and although the print is rough looking the fact it came off a printer made of legos is ridiculously cool. Kudos.

That is insane, even with the print results being a bit rough. I’ve been printing for a while and even own a small printing service on the side and I’ve tried making a printer from scratch and failed badly. I really respect this build since I’m sure it wasn’t easy. Printing a “benchy the tugboat” on a lego 3D printer is just insane and I definitely think this video should get more credit cuz this is crazy! Nice job
literally the best use of a Mindstorm ive seen
Even though the ending came out a bit rough, that infill looking perfect!👌
I was not expecting it to print a benchy that well damn. Great work!
Really impressed with the quality! Good job mate
Now make lego bricks with it
Rough surface but insane for being made out lego! Very well done dude
Well, it printed
Holy shit dude. This is incredible! Absolutely genius!
This video deserves more attention! All you need is a cooling fan on the nozzle and you could even get legit decent quality!
This is really impressive for a 3D printer made of LEGOS! Just add a Heated Printing Bed or a Part Cooling Fan and your print would probably come out better.
The final print is a bit rough, but the fact it was printed with a lego machine makes it quite impressive! Nice work and thanks for sharing!

Great project! Liked and subscribed in just 10 seconds.
Very neat! I think a part cooling fan would have helped, but the whole concept of a LEGO 3D printer is really neat. I specifically searched for "lego 3d printer", saw this video first and it did not disappoint.
Best and most inspiring lego video ever
Absolutely incredible!!!!!
Marvellous, mate! I feel sorry for the glass haha
Amazing dude!
Me: Mom can we get a 3D Printer? Mom: We already have a 3D Printer at home. 3D Printer at home: But in all seriousness this is so amazingly well done.
nice filament color choice
Good job!
Looks underextruded to me, but try gearing down the feeder some and then increasing the speed. Also if possible retraction would fix much of the stringing occurring.
Building my own Lego 3d printer, it as good as this one but it’s getting there, I’m also using a 3d pen which makes things much harder. Nice build, defiantly want to see more!
As Anakin Skywalker once said, "This is where the fun begins."

Amazing 😱😱😱😱😱
How bad is the z wobble and how do you resolve it with Lego. Also pla doesn't need adhesive
a simple nozle fan would make the print soooo much nicer
Could you upload a video, where you show the programming for the EV3? Because I build for a time a Mindstorms printer too, but I reassembled it, because I had no Idea how to send a G-Code inside the EV3-Brick. Nice Video 👌
@TechBricks

that's a good idea acctually. I'll think about it. For the code I've written gcode interpreter and I'm simply opening (previously saved on the ev3) txt file w g commands.
With one 30 or 40mm fanduct this prints will be more beautiful
We arw waiting for new film!
Could use some tuning, but wow that was cool.
Now you can make LEGO using LEGO! Mind blown
Amazing how Lego has got so advanced now! All down to the invention of electronic Programming systems and advanced Lego parts. Shame that there was metal parts needed to make this a true 3D printer Model. But I sure this will not be so for long as the parts advance in Lego systems? I do think 3D printing if done really well has a real world place in making parts for the future! I see most if not all families owning a 3D printer in the near future as cost drop more! It be a nice back up for item making that be helpful if you can't get a small part you need.

Wow.....już wiem z czego jest drukarka 3D w pracy mamy😅
Damit how you do to combine arduino and ev3 a supersuper work
the chattering and roughness on the print is probably caused by the chain as it is slightly stretchy causing it to not be exact enough for the fine details but still though it is very impressive i mean there are real printers that are junk compared to this
Genialne

Why don't you try replacing the chain with the rack and pinion gear system? That can help reduce backlash and improve the quality of the prints.

Does the application on EV3 parse the gcode or it executes commands from Arduino?

EV3 parses the gcode. Arduino controlls temperature of the printing head. They're not connected.
