3D printed RC FPV tank rover
Ғылым және технология
I designed the tank in a way that it can be almost completely 3D-printed. It's of course inevitable to truely completely 3D print the tank so there are small additional parts needed like bearings, shafts, screws, bolts and nuts. The tracks however are completely 3D-printed and don't need little shafts between every link. They are designed to snap together and stay together. It's very hard to take them apart after they snapped together, which is of course the intention.
I initially used 2 12V 1000 RPM motors but they turned out to be to weak so I ordered some new motors which were the same size but instead of 1000 RPM they are now 100 RPM. If I wanted to put bigger motors in it, I had to completely redesign the tank which would take up to much time as I already 3D-printed all the parts.
The 2 motors are currently being driven by 1 L292n motor driver which is controlled by an arduino nano V3. The arduino reads the data from 2 channels on the spektrum receiver. I might replace the arduino and motor driver by 2 car esc's but it's also possible I keep the arduino so I can connect some sensors to it so I can make the tank perform tasks autonomously.
In front of the tank is a camera which is placed inside an "eye" so the driver can look up and down. The up and down movement of the "eye" is obtained by a standard 9g servo. The video feed gets transmitted through a 600mW 5.8gHz transmitter and gets send to some FPV goggles.
The hatch on top of the tank gets hold on by 2 neodymium magnets (1 in the body, 1 in the hatch).

Very nice #D printed project. I always have to print a lot of parts over till I get the tolerances right. Then trying to find a print orientation to make the strongest parts. Will have to look at the project in more detail. I just fly RC planes and helicopters but this would be fun.

Fantatsic design!
This type of double-sided vehicle is very fun and interesting, you can mount a lot of things in it with the double-sided feature, it is clear that its configuration with antenna prevents the double-sided use but the base of this type of body is double-sided. I shared with another youtuber, I want to see more double-sided configurations to make one soon. Thanks for that video. The link below is for a double-sided radio controlled model that I want to buy, the negative point of it according to what they say are brush motors.
Very cool! IMO, a motorized vehicle isn't a robot without encoders on the motors. Having the ability to monitor speed and distance really helps with navigation. Thanks for the fun video. I just subscribed.

Well I didn’t say it was a robot, it was mend to be an FPV rover just to cruise a bit around the garden, thanks for the sub mate ;-)
Génial je suis en train de le construire. J’ai commandé ce qui faut sa s’imprime
Excellent.
I feel like ±200rpm would be a fun sweet spot but I fear that the torque might fall off and struggle with obstacles, hard to find small, med speed, high torque motors for projects, Im looking into worm gear motors for my lil tank, nice design btw.
it's genius but I hope you'll make it twice better with time 😁

I build these sort of things myself and currently working on a mini APC out of the Aliens film to be controlled from a Web UI (work in progress). how do you know the dimensions for the track? love the project idea and am working on a slightly modified version. I am just stuck on how to do the correct length for each track
@BrianBrocken

Hello Mason, this is a bit trial and error. I designed one tread to fit around the sprocket and than copied them to roughly span the gap between the 2 sprockets. I didn’t spend any time designing it so a specific number of treads would exactly span the gap between the sprockets because i know the play between the treads would add up and the final length would be a lot different from what i designed it to be. I designed it to be roughly 24 treads but ended up removing one which works perfectly 😜👍
This is incredible! Any shots from the tanks pov?

When I open the stl files in Cura I am still lost at how you positioned on the bed and the print setting you use. I did not seem to find this info. They will be printed on an old CR-10. Any help on how to set up for printing parts?
@BrianBrocken
4 жыл бұрын
Hello gvet47, I'm sorry but I don't use cura, I use repetier host. But i think positioning and rotating the parts shouldn't be to hard, I'm sure you can find some more info or a guide about this online. You can find the print settings I used on Thingiverse. These are: Print Settings Printer Brand: Anet Printer: E12 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2, 0.3mm Infill: 25 Filament: Esun PLA Red Notes: I printed the body and wheels with a 0.3mm layer hight, all the other parts were printed with a 0.2mm layer hight. The Body and "eye" of the tank are the only parts that need support.
I would be interested in the ESC's powering the motors and an RC car transmitter, like the DumboRC 6 channel one with mixing built in. Any idea what ESC's yo would use? When you talk about the 42 screws, you're referring to fastening all of the pieces together? Thanks.
@BrianBrocken
3 жыл бұрын
You can use 30A brushed bidirectional car esc's. I think 20A would be ok too but I wouldn't go lower than 30A just to be sure. I think these would be just fine: www.banggood.com/DIY-Mini-Z-Car-Bidirectional-30A-Miniature-Brushed-ESC-With-Brake-p-922678.html?p=E01411629100201406T1&cur_warehouse=CN Yes the 42 screws are to mount the bearings to the side panels, the side panels to the body, etc
Cool

Hi. If I was to use 2 car ESCs with the motor in the description what ones would you suggest and also what battery? Thank you
@BrianBrocken

Hello Tyler. If you want to run them on a 3S lipo you could use these ESC's: www.banggood.com/Waterproof-Brushed-ESC-160A-3S-with-5V-1A-BEC-XT60-Plug-For-112-RC-Car-p-1030025.html?rmmds=search&cur_warehouse=CN If you want to run them on 2S you could use these ones: www.banggood.com/2030A-Mini-Brush-ESC-Brake-116-118-for-Climbing-RC-Car-Ship-p-1243415.html?rmmds=search&ID=519150&cur_warehouse=CN Any 2S or 3S Lipo with around 1000mAh of capacity and about 30C C-rating would work.

I can't tell you that with 100 percent certainty but if the mounting holes match, probably, I would however recommend you to use the motors i listed in the parts list as I am a 100 percent sure these will fit in the tank perfectly.

Can the whole circuit diagram?how to connect the camera and rc receiver
@BrianBrocken
4 жыл бұрын
The circuit diagram posted on hackaday.io is the complete wiring diagram for the rc tank. The wiring of the FPV system depends on which system you have but this should be pretty straightforward, most of the time its 2 wires for powering the transmitter and 3 or more wires that goes to the camera and that’s it.
@BrianBrocken
4 жыл бұрын
I’ll see if i can find a wiring diagram for the rc receiver in the setup i used but I recommend you just use 2 ESC’s to control the motors instead of the LN298N motor driver.
That’s to fimilar to me it’s like *TONK*
