I'm on my 4th plane from them. Anyone who reads this, and is using a cheap ender3 printer, set your retraction to 4.5-5.5 mm. Also invest in S3D software before you attempt to print one of these. Then just modify the S3d files included. Just change speed to 3600mm and the retraction above, and print away. Prints beautifully like this.

Love for the P-38 - one of the more underappreciated warbirds at the time it flew. Glad to see her represented well here... makes me wish I had a 3D printer (or access to one) just for the model.

The anticipation for this video has been killing me since the teaser in the recent blog. The P-38 has always been my absolute favorite airplane ever made. She is a beautiful graceful flyer. This is an outstanding model and you guys did a great job flying. I love you videos and look forward to many more. Cheers!

The P-38 Lightning is probably the most underrated War Bird from WWII. My Father was an aircraft mechanic during WWII and was stationed at a Reconnaissance Base in Northern Italy and the planes used were P-38's with all the guns and most of the armor removed. As a result these planes were exceedingly fast and that was their defense being able to get out of Dodge faster than they could be chased. Beautiful airplanes and this model is amazing. Thanks for sharing.

this looks like it was printed on an SLA machine. we have 4 of them at my company, and you dont even need to go that far with the stained glass paint. if you sand the material smooth you can just use regular clear coat to make it clear. we do 1 off bottles and glasses for clients using this method and it looks almost like glass.

OrneryBear , it was printed on an "Original Prusa i3", they show them printing in their shop. I have three printers in my Shop, two being Prusas, and one FlashForge Dreamer. My max capacity is 270 x 210 x 220mm. I sand as well, but spray with super glue, light sand, and then clear coat. Makes super tough objects.

IT'S SO PRETTY! The P-38 Lighting is also my favorite plane in the world and I happen to be skilled in Solidworks and I love 3D printing. I've flown a couple small planes before, nothing of this scale, weight, or sophistication. However I'm really tempted to try this and be a leader to fly it while showing off that I printed it and built it myself. This is truly an amazing piece. I was as excited as you were when I watched it fly!

Beautiful model! Looks like he added some extra wing area out on the tips, but it certainly seems to have tamed the stall characteristics. It would be awesome to see future scale warbirds printed by just scaling the design! Might need to wait for a less dense filament type for that to be practical though.

Looks great in the air! The neat thing about printed plastic, you print what you just need, very little waste. It also allows you to print forms that couldn't be done in the more traditional sense. The full scale aviation industry has recently started looking at, and I think in some cases actually started using, 3D printing to make metal parts for aircraft. It allows them to make things that are lighter than what could be done with traditionally manufacturing.

Kudos to the drone photography as well as any other scenes. This aircraft with it's exact dimensions and its weight gives it such an authentic appearance in flight. It doesn't have the jerkiness or exceptional speed of some models that are light and overpowered. The unorthodox design of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning makes this model just that much more attractive on the ground as well as in flight. It's just a beautiful aircraft including in 3D print transparent form. A painted or aluminized version would be something that I like to see with its authentic dimensions and controllable surfaces. The original aircraft downed the Japanese bomber of Adm. Yamamoto in the Pacific during WW II in a surprise attack. This occurrence was a determining factor in the outcome of the naval war in the Pacific. The same Lockheed designer of the P-38 Lightning also designed the beautiful three rudder, Lockheed Constellation and Super Constellation 4 engine airliner. I'd really love to see one of those in this 3D medium fly with its heavy authentic gracefulness. The piloting in this video was superb, also, Kudos for that, too. I'm really glad that I subscribed to your channel, you all are great guys.

what a great looking plane! I do wonder what the surface texture does for the print though...if it's the base 3d print texture, there's going to be some significant amounts of drag. A bit of fairing and smoothing of the surface would probably have a huge impact on it's performance and handling....
