Definitely. A night flyer is it's destiny.
I'm on my 4th plane from them. Anyone who reads this, and is using a cheap ender3 printer, set your retraction to 4.5-5.5 mm. Also invest in S3D software before you attempt to print one of these. Then just modify the S3d files included. Just change speed to 3600mm and the retraction above, and print away. Prints beautifully like this.

Love for the P-38 - one of the more underappreciated warbirds at the time it flew. Glad to see her represented well here... makes me wish I had a 3D printer (or access to one) just for the model.
What a beautiful work of art! Technology still amazes me today. 👍🏼
I have watched a ton of your videos, flown a lot of your planes... But this one here entirely inspired me. This is by far, one of your best videos ever. I'm mesmerized every time I watch it. I've since, downloaded, printed, and flown my own P-38. It truly is an amazing aircraft.
The anticipation for this video has been killing me since the teaser in the recent blog. The P-38 has always been my absolute favorite airplane ever made. She is a beautiful graceful flyer. This is an outstanding model and you guys did a great job flying. I love you videos and look forward to many more. Cheers!
The P-38 Lightning is probably the most underrated War Bird from WWII. My Father was an aircraft mechanic during WWII and was stationed at a Reconnaissance Base in Northern Italy and the planes used were P-38's with all the guns and most of the armor removed. As a result these planes were exceedingly fast and that was their defense being able to get out of Dodge faster than they could be chased. Beautiful airplanes and this model is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
It would be great painted with translucent stained glass window paint, you'd still see through it but also have the correct colourings.

this looks like it was printed on an SLA machine. we have 4 of them at my company, and you dont even need to go that far with the stained glass paint. if you sand the material smooth you can just use regular clear coat to make it clear. we do 1 off bottles and glasses for clients using this method and it looks almost like glass.

OrneryBear , it was printed on an "Original Prusa i3", they show them printing in their shop. I have three printers in my Shop, two being Prusas, and one FlashForge Dreamer. My max capacity is 270 x 210 x 220mm. I sand as well, but spray with super glue, light sand, and then clear coat. Makes super tough objects.

The PLA plastic used for this plane can dyed with water-based dye. That should give the effect you want.
IT'S SO PRETTY! The P-38 Lighting is also my favorite plane in the world and I happen to be skilled in Solidworks and I love 3D printing. I've flown a couple small planes before, nothing of this scale, weight, or sophistication. However I'm really tempted to try this and be a leader to fly it while showing off that I printed it and built it myself. This is truly an amazing piece. I was as excited as you were when I watched it fly!
I love how you can see through it! Shows all the ribs. I love an old war bird
My fav WWII plane. That looked amazing. Thank you for this fantastic video!
Great to finally see this thing in the Air! Caught all the earlier vids when it showed up, but I know it was said you wanted to give it some time and a good test. BEAUTIFUL plane. And great design.
That plane fly's so flawlessly and the range is amazing I want one so bad
Seriously impressive on many levels - the P38 is a work of art in its own right but the chase footage from the chase drone is seriously good. Impressive narrative too
Stunning! These models look amazing. This makes me want to get myself a 3D printer but don't have the room.
that is the coolest plane i've seen on your channel!
truly an amazing plane!! cant wait to see how this progresses into the future..
I really like this idea, never through about printing a plane. Flys and looks great.
You guys do the greatest videos. Thx so much!
I love the Work that 3DPrintlabs does , amazing P-38
Good gravy, every time I see a video from you guys it makes me want to go fly. Thank you for being awesome.
Geez! That stall recovery was like a dream!
Fantastic airplane. I really like the white tips on the back of those big 3 blade props. It just looked so cool on those low flybys. SWEET!
Beautiful model! Looks like he added some extra wing area out on the tips, but it certainly seems to have tamed the stall characteristics. It would be awesome to see future scale warbirds printed by just scaling the design! Might need to wait for a less dense filament type for that to be practical though.

Been waiting for this video! Love it!
This is probably one of the best things to happen to rc plane builders. The parts for off the shelf planes have always been too expensive, with this if something breaks you can just print out more.
I'm working on the P-47 and when I am happy with that, I will get the P-38... 3dLabPrint do am amazing job on the CAD!
Looks great in the air! The neat thing about printed plastic, you print what you just need, very little waste. It also allows you to print forms that couldn't be done in the more traditional sense. The full scale aviation industry has recently started looking at, and I think in some cases actually started using, 3D printing to make metal parts for aircraft. It allows them to make things that are lighter than what could be done with traditionally manufacturing.
Ugh. You guys are the reason why I purchased a 3d printer in the beginning of the year. But man it was handy for all my rc planes stuff!
I printed their P-47 with and without retracts, and the BF-109 Tony, they fly really well especially considering how heavy they are.
My favorite plane of all time! Nice video!
For those still interested in 3DLabPrint planes, a Flite Test power pack C is perfect for planes like the Me-109s and similar sized planes.
awesome!!! been waiting for this since i saw it in the vlog!
just printed their P-51, used my Geeetech Prusa i3 printer with PLA filament. the printer is $300 us and works great for a multitude of prints/things. It takes a little tweeking and trial and error to get it to print the plane right but comes out light and strong, tons of fun for sure!! Roger
Although everyone were expecting this, nonetheless it's amazing. Please be aware the props on P-38 rotate outwards, not inwards as on the instructions. I'm in love.
As a warbird enthusiast, I am amazed by this. ☺ I'm also amazed at how fast the chase drone could move xD
Very cool. I love the p38. Wow!
I got a trainer because of you guys. Love the thing. Go out every weekend the weather permits.

Taulman 3d makes product to go over that to make it look like glass. That thing is gorgeous!
That flight was great, way to go!
The one I want them to do is the Corsair. It is by all counts my favorite WWII plane!
be great at night with leds inside
That's looks amazing but way above my skill set,Great job keeping up with the drone by the way
This thing is beautiful in the air
I've been waiting for this episode!
Another great video, thanks!
Simply beautiful.
Being someone who is a 3D modeler in various CAD programs, that plane is beautiful. Props to the designer. Haha, "props" lol
I love it!!! I wonder if you guys can talk to or even have a interview with a real live P-38 Pilot so that he can tell us what was it like to fly a P-38 and compare it to scale flight.!! That would be amazing!!! Keep up the good work guys I love watching your channel
Ive never felt the need to comment. Especially on a video so old. But that is fantastic. Absolute perfection
Great looking build.👍😲👍
I think with some elevator to flap mixing, to hold the nose down it will be even more amazing. Still first flight, its really amazing.
incredible video from the quad
WOW! That is Fan-Printing-Tastic! :) . My hat is off to the creator of these fine, printable, models.

cool plane and awesome VID I would like a follow up VID covering the BASICS of 3D printing from the beginner hobbyists perspective
that looks so real I love it
man this looks amazing
This plane is amazing, and the planes offered by this company look amazing too. Nice flight Josh. You rocked it! Where do you get your retracts from?
WOW THATS AMAZING
would be cool to see you guys do a foamboard P38...love the channel
that thing looks amazinnggg!
Kudos to your drone pilot. What a pro.
I'm stunned. Such high quality models. I have to get the P-47. Only the indestructable 7 ton flying jug can survive my incompetence.
Man that's beautiful!
Well balanced episode guys. Just enough product placement to keep it real, make me curious about the Graupner transmitter and definitely want to print me that Spitfire. Well done FT!

that is gorgeous when the sun hits it just right.
Kudos to the drone photography as well as any other scenes. This aircraft with it's exact dimensions and its weight gives it such an authentic appearance in flight. It doesn't have the jerkiness or exceptional speed of some models that are light and overpowered. The unorthodox design of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning makes this model just that much more attractive on the ground as well as in flight. It's just a beautiful aircraft including in 3D print transparent form. A painted or aluminized version would be something that I like to see with its authentic dimensions and controllable surfaces. The original aircraft downed the Japanese bomber of Adm. Yamamoto in the Pacific during WW II in a surprise attack. This occurrence was a determining factor in the outcome of the naval war in the Pacific. The same Lockheed designer of the P-38 Lightning also designed the beautiful three rudder, Lockheed Constellation and Super Constellation 4 engine airliner. I'd really love to see one of those in this 3D medium fly with its heavy authentic gracefulness. The piloting in this video was superb, also, Kudos for that, too. I'm really glad that I subscribed to your channel, you all are great guys.
That's so cool I'm glad you guys finally did a episode for this plane I checked out the site cool stuff he has there I would love to see do a 3d printed 45 0r 46 inch wingspan of Clipped Wing Cub someday?
Great, pretty inspiring. Please can you tell me the 3D printer model that you used for this?
thise are some amazing specs i never seen stuff like never exeed speed and wing loading on a rc plane
Nice flying on the drone
Beautiful!
U bring the best too us thanks .
Awesome plane!
If you glue the pieces together with Shoe Goo it will add some shock absorbance and with some effort you can replace individual sections without breaking the good parts.
What a neat airplane! I looked at his website - not a lot of planes right now, but the prices for what he has are amazingly rreasonable. Not my flying skill level, but wish they were!
Your every videos make me crazy!!
Beautiful, sweet P 38
what a great looking plane! I do wonder what the surface texture does for the print though...if it's the base 3d print texture, there's going to be some significant amounts of drag. A bit of fairing and smoothing of the surface would probably have a huge impact on it's performance and handling....
congrats flite test i love your vids and honestly you guys deserve at least 1 000 000 subscribers i love all your vids please reply to me
glad you guys posted this...was curious how it was going to fly...

This video flew by so fast (pun intended) it was like an 100mph fastball doughnut! 💨🍩🏍
I saw 2 of these for sale at weston park this year. A translucent chrome paint job would make a beautiful scale scheme. I just wish my 3d printer was larger :(
This is just so cool
We live in a magical age - when I was a child, you could only envision such technologies in science fiction. It's the future, and we're living in it!
Sweet
Dudes,I love that thing!it wood be badassed for some long range fpv.throw some gear on it n do another video chappys!
This makes me curious as to whether a 3D printed model of the Viggen could be developed. It might be a bit heavier, but it would be an interesting build, especially after giving it a good sanding and paint job.
beautiful plane!! I got to get one!
