My mom worked at AT&T and got me a SX-64 used from a developer friend at work for Christmas when I was 13. I absolutely love it and it’s still in mint condition and works perfectly. Very cool video. 👊🏻👌🏻
Great video as usual! Also looks like Puppyfractic was really worried about Ladyfractic being underwater, and was telling her to never ever do that again, when she surfaced 😃
These are ultra rare and valuable in he history of Commodore computers, and this is seriously the best computer restoring job i have seen yet. Great job and thanks for doing this!

British Innuendo is strong with this one... Well done!
My Father brought one these home in 85? What a great machine! But we ended up hooking up a monochrome monitor to it as were were going crosseyed trying to play games on the little screen :)

Lol! I've been in touch with him and he's happy with its new home and the video 😊
My dad still has SX-64. Fond, fond memories of playing Ultima IV on that thing.
Awesome sx-64 + lovely doggy + super fit wife = good times! Another brilliant video!
You said, "lubricate the shaft" many more times than strictly necessary... 😁
Brilliant job restoring the SX-64, plus never get tired of the poolside modelling!!
I would never admit it at the time, but I was always slightly envious of commodore kit. I had a spectrum then an ST and was obsessed, but always secretly coveted a c64 and later an Amiga. There was just something so chunky and awesome about them.
When my grandmother upgraded to a Commodore 128, I was given her SX-64 as a hand-me-down. In 1991, the screen went dead, and without a proper monitor it was pretty well unusable, and I ended up getting a 386 clone as a replacement right before starting college. Don't think I don't kick myself regularly now for letting the old SX-64 end up in a landfill when it was probably just a blown capacitor or fuse! This computer was a big part of my childhood, its where I first learned basic programming, and your restoration of that one looks lovely now.
It's incredible how much a sped up Dremel sander sounds like Ladyfractic :D Great video BTW :)
The recreation of the advert=genius.
Another superb job mr Fractic and the doggy agrees :)
Insanely jealous that you were gifted such a fantastic machine. And I'm so glad it fell into your hands! Great video.
Ladyfractic could definitely teach diving to the 80s Commodore girl in the ad.

Someone was inside that machine - normally the storage tray is also screwed in on the CRT side, too, and you cannot get to it or the drive without removing the CRT. I left the screw out after cleaning mine, too to make it easier to access in the future. What a lovely machine.

The attention to detail really makes this refurb a joy to behold. It looks like it could of just come off the production line. A bit of time and effort certainly pays off without doubt. 3D printing is the way to go.
Fast iteration for this kind of stuff is exactly why I love 3D printing
I was thrilled to see that you successfully filmed INSIDE your dishwasher. Then, all of a sudden your soundtrack improved drastically. The persistant inclusion of your lovely wife's screwdriver sound effects is also a great measure of enhancement. I am pleased. Thank you for your glorious work.

"Dramatic Key Change!" Hilarious stuff, mate. Love it!
I'm wondering if that Commodore jingle has been turned into a synth/vaporwave song already, and if not, why not.
Certainly was an interesting device, looked a little like lugging a tower around. I wonder how many people used it as intended. Great restoration too, I love the care and detail you put into these projects. Really glad I saw the Battle Chess video in my recommendations as your channel is gold.
You are a brave man to have it ANYWHERE near that pool....
Outstanding job Peri! You put my own SX-64 refurb to shame 😭. Now I gotta put my handle in the dishwasher. I’m very glad you didn’t have keyboard issues. What a pain it was for me to fix. Anyway, the SX-64 is a really neat machine and I’m very lucky to have gotten one for a great price. I wish they made a portable 128 similar to an SX-64. That would’ve been my all time favorite retro computer.
I came for the repair but I stayed for the cheesy puns!

Such a satisfying refurb.. Great production too. 😊
Man I always wanted a SX64 when I was a kid, I don’t know why but I did.
So my very first real job was at a computer store dedicate to selling commodore. So at the age of around 15 while I could not own all these computers. I did get chance to see, and play many of them. And just a few years earlier my middle school even had a PET computers for students to use, play with and program. While my memory is a bit fuzzy. I think we had one of these computers. I remember I really wanted one. I have c64 at the time.
I loved The Commodore Brand use to own two 64’s and a plethora of floppies 💾 and accessories. Love your videos and always top notch! Thank you for the C64 vids.
I just discovered your channel I’ve never seen you before and I spend most of my days (for the past 10 years) watching KZread electronics or woodworking videos. So glad to find your channel because I really enjoy troubleshooting videos… Although I have no interest in retro computing… I restore a lot of vintage and modern test equipment and industrial electronics stuff… And I’m a sucker for a good long format component level troubleshooting videos. And your channel is great for that!
I used to own one a long long time ago.....tough times forced me to pawn it along with all of my c64 gear (this, a desktop, 50 games, and 2 monitors) for like $50. As much as I hated having to do it, that $50 fed my family for the week. I have some fun times on that when I was a kid.....can't ever get back your youth.
THAT SONG IS A LEGIT BANGER!!
Fantastic restoration (as always) Mr Fractic in taking a SUX64 and turning it into a SXY64! All semantic jokes aside, the SX64 was quite revolutionary and relatively "portable" by 1984 standards - much easier than lugging around a full sized monitor, C64 and 1541. And as the "Are you keeping up with the Commodore?" advertisement and your gobsmacking recreation proves, it wasn't a computer it was a lifestyle choice - pool and open necked shirt optional! I'm sure Ferris Bueller would have owned one.
wow great job. love the look after the refurbish.
Thanks to KZread for suggesting this channel.... SUBSCRIBED
I bought a Commodore 796m calculator (still in the box) last year from an antique shop in Norwich and it has a Boots trader stamp indicating that it was bought in Ipswich, 1976.
Living the dream! Looking at SX64 next to the pool was a bit nerve racking...
No matter how many times I watch this video, I always want to watch it again! Now that Covid is easing, can we have that secret camera in Starbucks video please? How much fun will it be!?!?

Definitely on the to do list!!
The handle design is pretty standard for CRT oscilloscopes of the era, maybe not a household format but in every electronics lab everywhere. The same carry/stand is on some ham radio equipment and other electonics test equipment. I don't know if they took an existing case (is it 19" as well?) and put fun plastic on it rather than scientific beige, or just took the format idea and ran with it. The first Compaq PC luggable did this as well IIRC. I remember one being brought home from my dad's work when I was very little.
god i loved that tune. even as a 47 year old it brings back good memories.
This has come on my auto-play again. I have to say, the theme for your show always makes me feel really happy, it just fills me with nostalgia.

I wonder how feasible it would be to take an A600 motherboard and get a case designed to house it. With a trackpad instead of a mouse, a decent sized LCD/LED panel screen, and the keyboard built-in to the 'cover', and some nice little stereo speakers, I think it could turn out nicely. Is Steve Jones watching?
Oh my goodness, it’s beautiful. Great video
