3:39 I can say that an earthquake with an intensity of 7 will feel like the ground is moving up + down and left + right which will definitely make it difficult for you to move (because if you force it to move, you will just be knocked to the ground again) If you ask how I know this fact, it is because I am a survivor of an earthquake with an intensity of 7.4 that occurred in the city of Palu in 2018

Are you sure you are not confusing Intensity with Magnitude here? From what i remember Palu was Magnitude 7.4 (USGS has it as 7.5 or so) but Intensity was 9-10.

Intensity for that earthquake in the city of Palu ranged from 9-10 depending on how close to the rupture you were

A magnitude 11 is impossible. The mercali scale does not equate magnitude.

I feel like the safest place to stand is at the trunk of the christmas tree! Hug the trunk and hang on.... well until 12 and the indestructible mall zooms away. Great vid!

I was there in San Francisco in July of 89 my first time visiting The City. It was hard to imagine anything happening to the most beautiful and breathtaking area in the entire country! I went back East for my sophomore year in undergraduate school and a girl I dated at the time ran into the college library were I was working and told me about the quake from watching the World Series! I couldn’t reach my friend who lived in Sacramento for like 2 weeks! Many mixed emotions as I watch this video and the profound sadness I felt about that marvelous city! But also encouraged by the bravery shown by all citizens to help out! God bless San Francisco!

Thank you, your videos are getting better and closer to reality, very good progress! As a resident of an area where strong earthquakes occur frequently, I can say that a shopping center is the worst place where an earthquake overtakes you. Because there is an enormous number of falling objects, shelves and goods, signs and advertising, also a lot of glass, and crowds of panicking people are added to everything. So even if the building does not collapse, there is a very high probability that you and many other people will be very seriously injured.

I was in Anchorage Alaska with my family during Christmas break and I remember a Tsunami 🌊 alert issued for Alaska from the Aleutian Islands to Anchorage from the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake. Luckily the Tsunami alert was canceled! My dad was in the Air Force and survived the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964. 4 years before I was born!

I'm impressed the baubles stayed on the tree.

Dr. Steven Brattesani a native San Franciscan, dentist, said when the 89 quake hit, he was working and immediately ran into the street, and the street asphalt and concrete was like a magic carpet being flipped with a non stop rolling motion. He had never seen asphalt and concrete do that before.

You know the earthquake is bad when the cameraman flies out of the building at 11:09.

This was really good! Also, you must be a good architect, because these buildings stay up for almost every quake!

I am from Mexico and in the earthquake of September 19, 2017, the shopping plaza where I was was quiet 30 seconds after the beginning of the earthquake. The good thing is that I am on the first floor but they found 24 deceased and 3 survivors

You can read my mind 😂, I was thinking a few days ago, what if EarthquakeSim were to make a simulation of a mall during an earthquake. Really appreciate it, coming from someone who lives in a city that's both earthquake prone and has an unholy number of oversized malls.

I bet this video will be great! Sadly, I cannot be here in time for the premiere, since the time I wrote this comment was like 2 AM when I'm writing this... Edit: Bit of an interesting note, the creator took around 20 hours of work within a 3 day period to build the mall!

I think this is your best model yet. It did very well to remain rigid that would be what I would expect with their respective intensities in a real world scenarios. What I mean by this I've seen other models where damage to structures and objects seemed a little too floppy and fracture readily. Even with mild to moderate quakes where there should have been superficial damage and no compromise to structural integrity. Something about the rubber band-like pulling and snapping of the 11.0 and 12.0 intensity vertical and horizontal movements seemed extra spooky and unsettling. Also glad 10.0 and above cannot occur as far as faults are concerned.

You know its bad when the camera man couldn't survive the last one.

At first I thought that the fact that nobody was in the mall made it a bit eerie. When I saw the XI magnitude quake I was definitely glad that nobody was in there

I want to know what that Christmas tree is made out of!

Today is the 13th Anniversary of my first felt Earthquake. Ml 3.6 Intensity II though since i was ca. 30 km away of it. At the Epicenter some Houses were slightly damaged and a Christmas tree toppled. It sparked my Interest in Earthquakes which then was further intensified with a Ml 4.4 in February 2011 i sadly didn´t felt because i was traveling in a Bus.
