3D food printing | Lynette Kucsma | TEDxHighPoint

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Can i Print this ? This is the question Lynette Kucsma wants to ask people in regards to food.
How did Lynette become involved in the field of 3D printing? Lynette has been in the technology field for a large part of her professional career. Prior to Natural Machines, she was a Senior Marketing/PR Manager for Microsoft. Lynette became aware of the 3D printing concept a few years ago, and then last year she was introduced to and joined Natural Machines, but only after questioning their original use of 3D food printing and swinging in around so it actually benefited people from a health aspect. Now here she is, in the 3D printing field. Personally, she's passionate about healthy eating, technology and marketing. Weave that together with her tech and consumer professional background, and it all comes together for Lynette at Natural Machines.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I never heard of this until about 2 months ago when my professor asked me to do research on it. It's a fascinating field!

@@divz2646 The focus of our study was how people would react knowing that they were eating 3D-printed food, so I was focused on making normal-looking pasta with a printer that was designed to print clay. We held a sensory panel having them taste both regular and 3D-printed butter noodles. Overall, most people liked the regular pasta better, but that's because our noodles weren't the best haha. I only worked on it for a year and have already graduated, but from what I hear, they moved on to 3D-printed chocolate with a different printer.

And you can design it and be creative. I think another thing is cleaning. I think most people don't like cleaning up after cooking.

This is a nice sales pitch for her product but conceptually light for a TED Talk.

Hi! We did try to keep the talk neutral to 3D food printing, and to keep away from any sales pitch. Actually, we only showed the machine very briefly in the talk at the organizer's request so you can see the size of it. But that's it. The rest is educating people on the general concept of 3D food printing and how it can help us eat healthier... and hopefully inspiring some people along the way! :-)
