Infact laser work better under sea because angle divergent smaller than in space keep it focus longer

Could AM or DC telegraph or LASER replace expensive undersea cable

OK, what does the USN have for sub hunting?

sound. not lidar. radar and sound is how we sub hunt.. they make noise. we hear it. we pop it.

@@hawkintelligence I know that LiDAR doesn't work underwater. Curious you didn't mention MAD, or radar, as they both can be useful against a periscope. And... what inspired you to respond to a comment over a year old?

Uhhhh. Lidar does work underwater…. Its just pointless to use live lidar to hunt a sub. I literally said Radar in the comment. Radar doesnt go underwater. Radar is just a screen that shows an echo or location of a sound source. Using radar in a hunt is stupid because the system also pings the ships location to the sub. They use sounds and turn a small sensor on the bottom of the boat and literally listen for noise as a sub goes through the water. Thats how the navy looks underwater. They listen.

@@hawkintelligence I don't mean this as a pejorative but can you show me citation(s) of LiDAR working under salt water? I know the USN was quite surprised in WWII by radios working in fresh water in their Great Lakes training facilities and then by some subs going into fresh water river deltas to stay submerged to use their radios. I've yet to read/see any reliable sources for LiDAR in salt water.
