393. Government UPDATE on log burners and OFF-GRID ENERGY support | OVALTINE | DIY trim

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Government have updated the law on log burners and what we can’t burn. They have also changed the information on the two support schemes open to off-gridders like Narrowboats. I also need to do some trim work to the hatches and meet the owner of Project 57.
For information on the Alternative Fuels Scheme click here: www.gov.uk/get-help-energy-bi...
For information on the Energy Support Scheme for those not connected to the National Grid then click here: www.gov.uk/get-help-energy-bi...

The long fenders you have are also used lengthways. You put a rope at other end too and tie them fore and aft. So they lie horizontally along the side of boat. Tyres are useful but leave marks on boat and clothes!

COMMON SENSE BREAKOUT. You may notice that the fenders have attachment points at both ends. This is so they can be used both horizontal and vertical and also grouped together to prevent them from being pushed into voids and making them next to useless.

Thanks James... really enjoying your videos from afar. Being a bit of an amateur DIY'er myself, I sometimes find it entertaining to watch as you painlessly, or maybe painfully, work your way through different solutions and strategies. Also, being a traveller, I enjoy hitching a ride as you navigate the locks and canals. Great sense of humor btw...and a personal demeanor that makes for pleasant viewing. Cheers mate!

James, get some small car wheels complete with hub, inflated. Pop a rope into the middle, drop them over the side so they float (level) they will give you much more stand-off and roll with the hull and bank. Some folk use wheelbarrow wheels, but I think they’re a bit small for the job. People use these on the Shropshire Shelf, where your issue is a pain!

Fender issue, how about placing a plank outside of two fenders on ropes for the steel type piling , yachts do it all time when mooring on that type of bank . Short scaffold planks are ideal and double up as gang planks when needed

A small note of warning re Log Burner stoves. Several years ago my son was living on a narrowboat on a boat without log/coal burning heating, but moored near to other boats that had their stoves going overnight. One night he was woken by his CO Alarm. There was enough Carbon Monoxide drifting from a nearby boat to set his alarm off inside the boat I'm sure you do, but take care.

This is a similar problem to securing alongside some piles, but your solution would not work there. If you get a couple of scaffold planks and hang them next to the bank./piles, and then put fenders between the plank and the boat side. works great.

I find that the instructions for Ovaltine makes for a rather cloying drink. I just use a coupleof heaping teaspoons, fill the cup with boiling water, and cool it with milk. Glad to see you paired up those curtains. That's the sort of thing that would drive me nuts. Now that the curtains look good closed, the window framing makes it look finished when they're open. Enjoyed watching you fix things, sorting out the banging, love your easy manner. As a student nurse in 1976, I took great satisfaction in making a perfect cup of Ovaltine for my elderly patients late at night. Secret: add the Ovaltine to the milk in the pan, it dissolves and the starch grains cook, making a really smooth flavour. Only 2 teaspoons, as others have said on this thread. I'll tune into your posts again, thank you

Just a little information from an unpublished book I wrote about the canel women during WWII. And, thank you, James for matching the prints on the window coverings. As for kindling, do the restrictions include natural wood/branches you find on the tow path? Ovaltine, your dads’ not the old and neither am I.
