Love how much tech you left out.😆 Anyone thinking they're going to build they're own engine because they watched this video make sure to read a rebuild manual 1st. All bearing clearances need to be checked, bore size and ring gap too. Heads surfaces should be checked for any warpage, valves checked to make sure they don't leak etc. etc. Loved the quick and easy Reader's Digest version tho 👍

Maybe someone gets inspired: we all start somewhere. Step one? I do math before I buy most engine parts - much easier today with online calculators to sort what compression will be, etc I can do trigonometry... but why work that hard? [UEM pistons and Wallace racing both have a set of easily usable calculation tools]. Number one thing is be dead honest with yourself about operating rpm range the engine will serve before whipping out a credit card. And as always, cam selection happens right alongside heads, hand and glove. Any first timers out there, get ahold of anything Bill Jenkins wrote [print or online] - guy became a walking encyclopedia of useable details after decades of experience. David Vizard is no slouch either.

@@BLAC_WORX how about making it a 10 minute video and actually do a thorough job of explaining the basics and things to avoid? 🤷🏼‍♂️ There's plenty of novices that could possibly watch this video under the impression that these are the only things you need to do to build an engine and end up destroying lots of engine components, wasting tons of $$ and possibly permanently destroying their engine

I'm building a stroker to put in my c10. Going cheap tho. Vortec heads and flat tappet cam. I'm lucky that I have 3 350s laying around and like 4 transmissions I can use. Yes it's not quite that simple but 500hp for 2 grand is not too hard.

383 are nice, lots of torque. Clearance machining is required. I was always a fan of a destroked 454 to a 427. The extra 100 pounds didn't hurt my feelings. Great job but, It urks me seeing raw surfaces touched by bare hands. The oil on your fingers will not allow the zinc in the oil to absorb properly. It might not make a huge difference but that's how I was taught. Other that that perfect example 👌

the issue with a stroker will be clearing the sides of the block's crankcase area, otherwise stock oil pans fit 400 chevies and the crank is similar. btw, the way to check for clearance is install the oil pump, torque it down, and put a big blob of clay on it and then torque down the oil pan. don't even bother with a gasket just yet, but shine a flashlight into the crankcase--if light shines out, your oil pan rails need to get flattened out so it will seal perfect. then take off the 'pan and measure how much the blob of clay got compressed.

As long as your oil pump clears it will work. I’ve never ran into that issue with a SBC
