I like that they follow the old woodworkers rule... "keep your long stuff long"...

Now if they could just keep it wide too.

@@jimmydough407 .. we used to get our lumber surface two sides and we had to straight edge it ourselves. it came random widths..
A lot of the houses that were built in the gulf states in the 1800's and early 1900's are still around because of rot resistant cypress. those people gathered to watch because they get to witness a part of History, once that wood is gone you will never see it again, truly a great conservation effort. Thank you for the video...

Lot's of cypress out there. It's growing in 15 states and planted in many other places. It's far from gone.
@Bill_N_ATX
Ай бұрын
@@treemanclint2883 But this looks like old growth cypress, not something planted or rooted in the last hundred years. We have more trees growing in the US today than we’re growing when the first white settlers landed on these shores. But they are very different trees. But yeah, cypress isn’t like the redwoods where they cut down trees that were several hundred years old. Those we will never replace.
@treemanclint2883
Ай бұрын
@@Bill_N_ATX I still cut trees every day with fine growth patterns. I never get why people only think fine wood came from virgin forest. What I've personally observed is a very high level of defects and degraded material in the old growth, so much so it doesn't justify the slight difference in wood appearance between a tree that has been suppressed verses and nominal growth rate trees. You are seeing a difference in growth rate because the weather has improved for a more favorable growing season in the past one hundred years. I see trees still in foliage almost 2 months longer now than I did fifty years ago so that has obviously been a positive for tree growth.
Welcome to the real America, hard working people who enjoy the freedom and feeling that they can make a difference for other hard working Americans. God Bless America

You should travel to other countries.
We were standing at the end of that log as Jake milled it and you could feel the moisture coming out of that log .
This is a top notch gathering. Most of the folks gathered would have fit right in with the people I grew up with.
That pecan was absolutely amazing!
I sure would love to visit this mill one day. This was some of the most beautiful wood I have ever seen, and the food looked just as good.

I am amazed at how well that Woodmizer cuts with as much shaking that it has on the unsupported cantilevered side
Wow! A whole lot of things contained in this well thought out video, Nathan. Besides the logs, saws and equipment, there was lots to learn, the camaraderie of fellow sawyers, and the dedication to one of the brotherhood. Can’t imagine axe cutting that huge cypress, must have taken days. Imagine a load of cypress lumber on the flat bottom steamships headed to markets up north back in the 1800’s.
Your videos set the gold standard, Thanks.
Great job Nathan , thanks for putting this video all together for us. That's an awesome place to go. Fred.
Looks like a great time plus beautiful slabs, those will bring in some good money and someone will make something beautiful with it. Thank you for another great video.
Always a great time to do a recap
now that was a great video.. they even had the wives and kids out there at the end.. what a really beautiful part of the country, thank you sir for the video and all your content. yours is one of my favorite channels on youtube.. I never miss a video, I have the bell notification.. LOL..
can you imagine what it was like before motors, electric and diesel? I know they had water power but you still had to get the logs there and transport the finished product.. this saw mill is just amazing.. but your saw mill is still my favorite.. LOL..
One of your best videos ....
i was a sawyer.loved it best job i ever had

Beautiful pecan ❤

There is a fella in Georgia who can do 4' logs on a homemade band mill out of 5 forklifts. He cuts wood for old wood yachts and ships.

I’d love to have some of that QS sinker to build a hunt board or plantation desk with. That’s some beautiful stuff. Enjoyed the video, Nathan, thanks for taking us along. A three legged bench or table will always sit solid. That’s why milking stools have three legs.

I have kinfolk in South Georgia (Milledgeville area) and next time I get down that area I have to look Jakes operation up. Great people and work ethic.

Lumber capital lumber yard just set up a new L170 and its phenomenal! Instead of starting from the controls and sawing, it comes in from the other end making it easier to sort lumber, stack up the trim cuts.... just a real good system for production

they make it 2 ways, you can get an ''add on slabber'', or you can get it as a ''dedicated slabber'', they did not show it on this vid, there is a jig that you can also mount a router with a ''surfacer blade'' a very well thought out set up.

Is that an accurate cut with the unsupported side of the mill bouncing up and down??
I'd bet that sinker Cyprus sells for so much it wouldn't be offered to a common man , and it takes a master sawyer to cut it. Nice stuff.

Is it me or does the unsupported side of the saw head seem like it's bouncing up and down pretty badly? That would effect the boards, wouldn't it??
