i felt johnny's version was more not quite there. Like he either didn't care or didn't completely mature. He seemed like a big kid. Which isn't bad, just what i felt. Gene, i felt like he knew what was going to happen and knew the kids, therefore planned the tour around each of their own "sins" if you will, to see if they could resist, showing some will power in changing. Like Charlie did, he could have sold the candy for a lot of money, helping his family but didn't. He resisted that urge. You got me monologing, you sly dog you.

Fun fact, Gene only agreed to star as Willy Wonka under one condition: that he could limp out of the factory and then do the somersault because he wanted the audience to wonder if he was just trolling them or he was for real. I love how Wonka just gives zero fucks whenever one of the kids screws up. It's perfect. Gene Wilder was a legend.

Gene Wilder was A LEGEND as Willy Wonka, he did an amazing job. So did Johnny Depp, but I believe they both did WAAY different versions of the man. I still applaud them both, and hope that Gene is resting easy.

Yepp, in an interview with Roald Dahl’s wife who was the executive producer of the 2005 remake, she said that Roald would most likely prefer the remake since it was more faithful to the book. Not only because of the squirrel scene but because of the Oompa Loompas.

@@hanaeve__ I'm not sure if he would have liked Tim Burton's movie any better because one of his complaints about the 1971 film was that it placed too much emphasis on Willy Wonka and not enough on Charlie. With that in mind, the 2005 version gave Wonka a backstory that wasn't in the book.

Could have shown the scene from the original film where, after dropping the minuscule Teavee in his mother's purse, Wonka then starts swinging it about while he talks to her.

Gene's wonka is like he's over it and regrets ever opening up the factory but slightly amused by what unfolds around him. Johnny's wonka is like a big kid that just wanted to show everyone his Toys and opened the factory for his own amusement 😂😂 Tbh I love em both 😁💜

Wilder by a Galaxy. The boat and roll thing was with held from the children so he legitimately scare and delighted them. Plus he wasn't awkward and didn't seem to hate children but could care less if they didn't listen to him the first time.

They both had their own style. Decades apart. Both great actors, just different styles of direction. Which version did you see first? I like Gene, but that is what I relate to "Willy Wonka". Younger gen may prefer Johnny. ??

I'm in love with both portrayals of Willy Wonka. Gene's is funny and sarcastic, while Johnny's is creepy and sarcastic. God I love these films😂💙❤️❤️❤️
