362/365 MIDGE URE (Rich Kids, Ultravox, Visage) - DEAR GOD (1988)

For many people this time of the year has special religious significance, and people in general tend to be more charitable in nature. Some musicians also take the opportunity to try to increase awareness of the world around them, and the likes of Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel have often led the way in that regard.
Midge Ure of course was the man behind the original Band Aid song “Do They Know It’s Christmas” in 1984, but four years he later he released another reflective number in time for the Xmas market called “Dear God”, but this one didn’t make it any higher over here than no. 55. I was then, and indeed remain puzzled by that extremely limited success, as it’s possibly his finest song with a very strong message which I would have thought would have particularly resonated with the British public, so I’m giving it another chance here. There was also a video to accompany it which you can find here • Midge Ure - Dear God ... .
As we near the end of this particular journey (a new one will begin on 1st January) hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
