If it's too Southerly it's gusty as it has to go up the mountain. Clean SE is better. But WNW is amazing at Witsands

Hi loving the jumps, can you tell what kind of a mount you use for the camera? Is there any good option which doesn't involve drilling holes in the harness ?
@kitesurfcollege
Жыл бұрын
Hi Konrad, I have a mount that I made to go on a backpack - as I don't want to mess up my harness. I just got the insta360 backpack mount as well, which is lighter and looks solid but after ordering I realized it comes with a 30cm pole, and you need a 60cm to get a good view or the bar and board at once. I'm going to get the 30cm extension then test it out.

Hey Alex! nice video! about the white water (foam from waves) does it change much too ride? it always keep you up enough or some time is not supporting?
@kitesurfcollege

Hi Gaetano, how's it going? Generally I avoid being on the white water as the board sinks or slows. I try to stay just ahead of it riding in and pass over it quickly riding out.

Any tips for getting over the fear of looping the kite on landing like in your first jump? I always get pulled forward the few times I tried ending in a face plant.

Watch his video about Heli Loops! He explains every detail about your problems. Try your first heli loops in very light wind at the end of your jump. It is very important to loop the kite in a small circle and you always have to complete the loop. Another Problem is that your kite hasn't had time to creep upwind (more above you). If you loop the kite too early it will result in a contra loop, it will pull you horizontal because the kite is too much in front of you. -> It's very important that you get a good kite perception and understand the wind window fully. His video will explain it even better :) How to Heli Loop

Is the upgrade from X2 worth it? What´s that backpack? Sounds like a nice idea!

Hello Alexomator, with average to poor lighting I see the biggest difference in video quality, in good lighting (with the sun behind the shot or a few clouds for defuse light) then there's only a slight improvement in video output.

Hi Alex, thanks for answering. I´m considering to change but will wait for some more footage. I mean ... 8k+ should be possible from a technical point of view? Well, who knows ... What´s up with the backpack? Enjoy Kota :)

This looks more like Witsands than Misty Cliffs

I also think so. Many people use both names for the same area. as they are only +-900m separated on the same beach area it's understandable.
@kitesurfcollege
Жыл бұрын
Exactly Ugge. The distinction makes perfect sense for surfers but not really for kiters. Noordhoek beach has a bunch of named surf spots, but for kiters it's only one large kite spot - since kiters can easily roam a few kms. Also I think kiters call this general area Misty Cliffs to avoid confusion with the other major SA kitespot named Witsand at the mouth of the Breede river.

@kitesurf College, Do you have any recommendations for kitesurfing schools in Cape Town? I'm from the deep South and there seems to be a group of schools at Blouberg
@kitesurfcollege
Жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, if you're looking for your first lessons it's worth travelling a bit further either to langebaan or breede river. Learning at Blouberg is not great, gusty wind and lots of shore dump. If you want to stay closer to home, then Muizenberg has better wind consistency and less shore dump than Blouberg. The instructors in SA are generally not great from what I've witnessed, but they should be able to get you started.

You got to love 360 cameras. Haven't taken my X3 out on the water. They should make a lens cover that sheds the water drops.
@kitesurfcollege
Жыл бұрын
Hi Pete, I've been wondering about that. I tried the standard protective lens guards but water clings to the edge of the lens guards. I might try some kind of hydrophobic coating. Although I find riding fast, or chucking a few backrolls, gets the water off when needed. The main issue I notice is that after a while the droplets start to leave salt residue. I guess the only solution is to stop and clean the lenses from time to time.
