360/365 SPARKS - THANK GOD IT'S NOT CHRISTMAS (Ron & Russell Mael's alternate view) (1974)

Christmas is for many families one of the most joyous occasions of the year when they have the opportunity to spend some quality time together. Unfortunately some relationships just aren’t strong enough to withstand such a prolonged period of proximity, and sadly in a few cases Boxing Day is when things start to unravel. Yesterday I chose a Sparks song to illustrate an alternative view of Christmas Day, and for the first and only time this year I’m promoting the same band two days in a row.
Today’s choice is “Thank God’s It’s Not Christmas” which was first released in 1974 on the classic “Kimono My House” album. It’s a real tour de force of a number, expertly combining the rock and pop genres, with the chorus lyrics delivering a real kick in the teeth for the romantics amongst us who genuinely do cherish spending time with a loved one at this time of year.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something a bit more uplifting!
