357/365 THE BEE GEES - FALLEN ANGEL (Robin Gibb's finest Bee Gees' lead vocal performance?) (1993)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
The Festive Season is nearly upon us, so from tomorrow I’ll be selecting songs that are appropriate for this time of the year. Before I start that process one final piece of self-indulgence, although it does kind of have a Christmas connection, particularly if you have difficulty in getting one to stay at the top of your tree!
One of the best things about The Beatles was that even if you were familiar with all of their hits, when you listened to their albums you discovered many more that should have been, simply because there were just too many quality songs to chose from. Although their recognition was harder to achieve, the same could be said of The Bee Gees. Their 1993 album “Size Isn’t Everything” yielded three UK Top 30 hits, and there were several others that could have been contenders. Pick of the much for me though was today’s choice” Fallen Angel” which has been a personal favourite of mine for almost thirty years now. It’s vibrant, and whilst you could easily dance to it I wouldn’t describe it as “disco” as such, which is perhaps why “dance-pop” became a recognised genre in its own right. Although there are many to choose from, I’d say it’s arguably Robin’s finest solo vocal Bee Gees' performance, as his voice was at its absolute peak on this album.
An extended “drum & bass” style remix was released on the "How to Fall in Love (Part 1)" CD single, but as usual with such self-indulgent productions it ripped the heart out of a great song, so this album version is the one to hear!
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow when I'll be uploading the first in my series of seasonal treats for you!
