354/365 CHRIS BRAIDE - FUNNY FIVE MINUTES (1992)

During the course of this year I aim to upload a song every day for your consideration as to whether they were good enough and sufficiently commercial to have become UK Top 20 singles. Many different genres will be represented, so if this particular one’s not your preferred style then hopefully it won’t be too long before you find one that is.
For those songs that are interesting enough for you to give them a proper listen, please press “like” if you think it could have been a hit, and “dislike” if you don’t, in the hope that we get enough votes to obtain a balanced overview. Also, if leaving a critical comment please try to take into account the year of original release - most of the songs that I'll be uploading are decades old so it wouldn’t be surprising if some sound dated now.
Today’s choice is Funny Five Minutes by Chris Braide which was first released as a single in 1992. Known by many to be a first-rate producer for the rich and famous or for his involvement with Geoff Downes in DBA, I know him better from his singer-songwriter years where he went under the radar as a grossly under-estimated talent. A master at capturing a wide variety of moods, this release shows his whimsical side, albeit with unrequited undertones. His are songs that beg to be LISTENED to, and perhaps therein lies the reason why his early career stalled as more often than not the general public seldom bother to peel away the layers to see what lies beneath. The single edit chops 3o seconds off the playing time, so on this occasion I’ve gone with the "Chapter One" album version which I think is more representative of his talents.
Hopefully you’ll drop by again tomorrow for something completely different!
