35 Pound MUSKY of a LIFETIME! S7.E01
In the sport of muskie fishing one cast can change your day. In fact, just one cast can change your entire season! When it comes to muskies you truly never know “who” you’re going to run into because any given day the biggest fish in the system could decide it is time to eat and….well… you better be ready. That was the situation that my good friend Mike Richardson and I ran into on a hot, muggy July day in northern Wisconsin.
We had been battling the sun and lack of musky action for hours and were even debating changing waters when all of the sudden Mike’s rod doubled over and he was hooked up. I thought it was a smaller fish we had seen a few hours earlier but Mike was quick to tell me that this was not the case. As I grabbed the net and turned to get into position, I saw the monster splash and knew right away that this was not an average fish! After a battle that seemed to last an eternity, with power run after power run, Mike was finally able to get the beast into position and I took a chance when I saw the opportunity and went for the score. We had a touchdown on a 35 pound northern Wisco bruiser. It was a personal best for Mike and will without a doubt be one of our best segments of all time. We are excited to share this moment with you and we hope you enjoy this episode!

I felt that!👍 The adrenaline rush is unexplainable. To me it's comparable to harvesting a mature buck with a bow!! Congratulations

Thanks Rick! Mike did an incredible job on this fight. Just really played the fish and gave me a shot on the net. Because the fish stayed down, I couldn’t tell how she was hooked, so I took the shot I had.
Heckuva fish and beautifully marked as well

Congratulations Mike on an epic catchski 35 lbs 50 inches, is that net bent ?

Lolllll….yes my net is bent haha. I had a customer step on it years ago. Yes that fish was a little over 48” and just built like a monster. A northwoods giant
Nice work! Congrats! But how do you not measure a personal best fish like that?

Jeremy! Thanks for the watch and comment. And yes - of course we did! She was just a hair over 48”. Built like a tank!

That fish has to be all of 4ft minimum and what a paintjob! As friends that's the coolest experience you can have there's nothing like catching your pb with one of your closest friends it's a bonding experience!

Right on!!! It’s so awesome especially when your buddy has netted big ones for you…repaying the favor is just so sweet. She went 48.25

@@MuskyMastery I had just seen your other comment right after I wrote mine that's so friggin awesome!! Imo 48 is the mark of a true giant people get hyped on 50 but to me a four footer is in that fish of a lifetime bracket

I struggle with that concept of free spooling during the fight. Want to let your drag do the work?
It worked out but in my opinion that net shot was risky. That fish was still hot. I'd have given her a couple more runs but hard to argue with success.

Clay this is a good conversation point. I agree with you. It was a more risky move than I would have liked but I felt at the time it was necessary. As the fight continued to progress and I got a few glimpses of the fish, I knew it was huge and she wasn’t going to give up soon. The problem was, I just couldn’t see how well she was hooked because she was staying down so deep. So I thought, if I get a chance where I am confident I can make the move and get her before this carries on even longer, I’m going to take it. The shot I took was a close call but like you said, it worked. Sometimes those split second decisions pay off. It was my gut instinct at the moment.
