As the description says, built by Ortano Navi which shortly after became Perini Navi, so in theory a good pedigree. I knew this boat well when she was named Magdalus Terzo and crewed on one of her Atlantic crossings as well as spending considerable yard time with her. This boat is mechanically very complex, whilst out of the water, we spent 4 weeks just getting one shaft seal to stop leaking, let alone all the other work our two engineers had to do. Under sail she's okay, motoring is a different story; we burnt 9 tonnes of fuel on the leg from Antigua to the Azores. Potential buyers will have to have very, very deep pockets, don't let the asking price fool you, she'll cost you that PLUS at least double just for the refit.

Thanks for your comment. Interesting to hear from someone who actually sailed the boat. Your budget estimates are realistic. New yacht like this will cost 15 - 20 M that's the logic that an investor buyer will have in mind.

How does such an expensive and beautiful boat end up in such bad shape? This needs to go back to the PN yard for a complete refit. This is not a you tuber refit project.

@@jameskiehm546 When she was Magdalus Terzo she had an owner with the resources to run her. She also had a highly efficient and experienced management company to take care of her. I suspect that in later years subsequent owner(s) weren't quite as capable and/or believed she could be run and maintained on a shoestring. You have to take in to account a number of factors when contemplating a boat such as this. 1. Acquisition cost. 2. Annual running cost. 3. Exit strategy. Too many wannabe yacht owners just see the headline purchase cost.

Thanks for your reply. I get annoyed at some boat reviewers claiming certain vessels to be fuel efficient - when in reality, like this one you would be chewing through approx 45 to 50 litres per hour, per engine. A trip from Antigua to the Azores and you have, as you say around 9 tons of fuel used (approx 10,588 litres) This vessel seems to be 180 away from simplicity at sea. I did a quick calculation of costs to get this vessel up to par (which includes simplifying systems) and my thoughts are that the asking price should be dropped by at least 60%. There are so many other better priced, better valued boats comparable to this on the market.
~115' for us old school units of measure people. Nice aluminum upper section to keep the center of gravity low. Love the style of this sailboat, the beautiful gentle bow entry angle, the super sexy and massive stern overhang, dangling over the water. I hope someone awesome gets this boat and brings her back to life.
Beautifully designed boat!
Gorgeous ship! Once I win a lottery it's mine. Love all that wood. 1st thing is a overhaul of the crew/galley area then turn the rudder area extra space into a motorcycle garage. Thanks for the video
Welcome back missed your fantastic videos.
Thank you! Excellent as always! What a beauty she once was!
It would make a great boat for 10 people who want to sail the world. Who cares about varnish, as long as the sails are working and the engine I would have no problems with the decor !
Siempre es un gusto ver tus videos. Saludos desde Argentina
This vessel was presented in a very honest way. He told us many, many times through the video where things needed to be replaced, were missing, or the condition simply unknown in lieu of a survey. This vessel needs a TON of work, but the bones are there for a large, blue ocean crossing vessel. I personally don't think she'll fetch 1.5M, that said whatever she sells for, plus a complete refit in Croatia - you'll still be well under half price of what a comparable sized Perini Navi will cost.

The get the boat up to scratch it would cost close to 1M ! The boat itself in this condition is worth less then 500k ;)

I agree! That engine room, electronics, sails, rigging, and the list goes on. I'd be shocked if it sells for anything over a $1M. Its going to take a significan outlay of cash and time to bring this boat back to its former glory. Good luck to the new owner. As much as I love restoring almost anything, I'm not so sure I'd take this project on - all money aside.

The big question is always if the value it will represent once restored is greater or less than the total investment. Even as a give away, I don't think anyone can make this profitable and thus it's better to find a newer boat.
Beautiful in it's time
Very informative video , the vessel is in fairly decent shape for its age. Addressing the rust on the hull repaint, wood work cushions and new fabric. Not bad at all. Next question would be the condition of the sails that can be very expensive. But all and all . I love it !! Thank you sir for your time.

@@YachtMarineBrokerage and a whole lot of work. Basically what ever a fool willing to shell out, is the price. It won't be much. Ranging from $1 to whatever a fool gives.
I definately need that master suite and dressing room.
This is the scariest video on the internet! just the idea of buying it and then refitting her, scares the b-geesus out of me!
That’s a mini ship ! The thing that would worry me is at 35 years young she was rusting to such an extent!! So imagine putting loads of money into it and it’s still quitely rusting away in places you’ve never seen and will probably never get to. I think the wood is a bit like coffin ⚰️ timber not very classic or classy in my opinion I’m with a lot of other on price here 500k. But I wouldn’t touch it myself if I had the money I’d buy a new Kraken
just a hunch but suspect that hull plating was replaced because she possibly corroded from the inside out especially that large repair patch down near the bilges.
Exactly how is the aluminum deck fastened to the steel hull (& scantlings?) ? Laser brazing? Epoxy & mechanical? That factor alone would determine the fundamental viability of any restoration project. Galvanic corrosion might not be as serious as the classic case of the 1915 monel-steel disaster with complete corrosion in 6 weeks of a 215 foot boat, but it would be systemic right across the entire hull/deck joint of this one.
@cetterus
Жыл бұрын
Exactly. Main questions: 1. possible galvanisation between aluminum parts and steel hull and 2. possible INNER condensation in over 30 years of usage.
This is the stuff of nightmares!
It would be cool to have it moved to a mountain forest off grid restored for a cabin in the woods hot tub up top many ideas
This is a great example of many similar "doomed" boats : The person that can afford this boat would never choose it. They choose less troubled newer boats. Seven crew? six guests? The potential owner who can afford that can afford a 5-6 Million boat. Even as a charter yacht it would never make a profit with 7 crew and 35 meter mooring expenses, insurance and annual dry docking. Pretty boat, doomed to rotten ashore
A nice old boat but I wouldn't touch it due the the steel/aluminium configuration of hull and superstructure... a recipe for disaster ... those metals just don't mix. In the mid 70's I crewed on a 35m alloy racing design yacht which never raced... Sayonara Alpha (originally Talofa IV and finally Penelope). Sayonara Alpha had massive manual winches, the 2 winches for the foresails had 35 tons capacity... and a skipper with 3 female crew sailed her from the Carribean to France quite easily. She was built in France in 1968.
If I had the money 💰💸 I would buy her in a heart beat. I love her 😍

It's been an absolutely beautiful vessel. It will need a massive overhaul. Is it worth it? I guess that's for the man with deeeeeep pockets to answer.
Wow, everywhere you look, trouble. I couldn't even begin to guess how much money you would need but I'm thinking for the same money you could buy a brand new Bering Ocean Cruiser. I love sailing boats but this is a project an average person could simply not afford.

This boat is not beyond the effort of any really hard working man to make safe, and operational . The cosmetics can be done anywhere in Asia in a very short time. Those engines would fire right up with clean fuel tanks and clean oil. Boat would need new batteries . All those sail control systems are going to need attention. You’d need a hydraulic guy for a month and that and batteries would be a thirty five thousand dollar cost. Otherwise, As Lon as you can make watertight and operational the skin fittings, intakes, toilet outlets, holding tank, the twenty or thirty pumps and their pipes, make sure that windlass can work and the chains and anchors are going to stay connected to the boat, and can be retrieved, and a means of propulsion through those gearboxes are going to be achieved at the helm, then you could refloat, anchor , work on at leisure . The big cost in those boats is insurance and mooring and docking. And it’s not a single man operation . You’d need good operational tenders and a way to retrieve them. It’s not beyond the means of an average man or family. It’s going to cost a hundred thousand dollars to get it operational if you do the dog work yourself. If those engines have compression and starters will start it, it’s a very viable boat and some yachtie will definitely buy it .

Which Boat yard is this boat in please?
35m and three guest cabins … what’s wrong with her ? 7 crew is the correct number for this size
Wish I had a few million lying around to purchase and fix this thing up.
This is a total restoration project. In it's current condition the boat isn't worth more than scrap. It's going too cost at least 6 million dollars too restore this vessel. If you're not prepared too flush that much cash, look for something much newer in excellent shape.

Those engines are $50k to replace so hopefully they'll pass inspection! Things that scared me: the condition of the engine room, him not knowing the brand of the generators or water maker, the cold climate they're in with possible freezing of pipes or engine blocks with water inside, that old electrical panel/control box...yikes! I work in industrial maintenance so I fix all of that stuff daily, minus the engines. Those relays, circuit boards, possible plc controls inside that big box...even if they have blueprints for everything I'd still be concerned! I hope she goes to a good home.
