348-409 Chevy drag race at Dragway 42 July 31st 2021
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Here is a short video of most of the 348-409 cars that came to race at dragway 42 what a weekend out in Ohio. We were only there for a few hours to pick up our Z11 hood, see our friends and watch some racing but had an absolute blast!

As someone who was born in the 60s, knowing that there still are a significant number of these beautiful classics still around makes me Glad All Over 😅. I just wish more of them were kept as original as possible...
Love the 59
Ken the kid Walsh, was a show stopper!!!..never seen one leave like that!!

That's "Mr. 409" to you. But seriously, I agree. What a launch. Unfortunately, all that twist is probably what cost him the race.
That blue 60 is gorgeous
Sweet! This vid deserves more attention, looks like fun

Its way to much fun. Don't need anything but a 348-409 to run with these guys. I started with a tired 250hp 348. More fun than anything else I've done.
These were truck engines, designed for lot's of torque, and they had it, combustion chambers in the block, loved the old W engines and still do, my first car was a 64.
Thanks for filming and posting good stuff

409''$ are fast racing other Chevy's! No wonder Mopars crushed them....

@@wildestcowboy2668 The funny thing about your statement is you are only bringing up a brief moment in time when Factory backed Chevrolets weren't even racing. If Chevy would have stayed in racing then even you wouldn't be able to spell Mopar. LOL! Ford and Mopar lived it up while Chevy stepped away. Otherwise you name the time in history Mopars crushed anything and I'll print you out a list of the hundreds of Mopars that lost at every major drag racing event to older used Chevy's with no factory support. LOL! Mopar did the best they could with the lack of competition and if that is what you are proud of then I don't want to take that away from you. LOL!

@@360memorylane All I know is that I've personally met Richard Petty and he said in 69 Ford's made him realize the MIGHTY 426 HEMI was just the beginning. Chevrolet was a joke! I feel Richard has more than you running your pie hole.
Dammit! I wanted to see that yellow '55 run.

Without a 348-409 in it, the 55' just didn't make the cut. Tell him to stuff a 348-409 Chevy BB in it and I'll take all the video of his ride. :)

@@360memorylane Oh, okay. lol What was he thinking?
The 348 was more forgiving, cheaper and just as powerful with some working. The 409 was replaced for a reason. The drag strips were littered were parts from mis shifts and over revving. Had it not been for Brian Wilson, this would faded into history with the 394 Olds.

If you ever rode in 409 /425 you would never forget it.

formerice my first car was a 14-year-old 1978 Mercury Zephyr 4 door. Rusty body, burned oil 😊. Money was VERY tight back then. It was the cheapest certified car I could find.... $CDN 850 😊.
For the younger crowd: The 409s here are modified, they did not turn those times back in the early '60s.

There are a few of us running factory cubes. I ran my little 348 in my wagon for years. Just jumped up to 434ci this last summer. Dropped 3 full seconds in the 1/4mile. Lol! Any power range is fun.

Technology makes the difference. Back then there were no decent valve springs or tires. Just adding those 2 items brings you to today. I ran a stock cam and heads in the 80's with those 2 improvements and @4010# it went 11.79 without a good driver. Slicks were from 1968
That white car in the second car man the horsepower and tranny and rear end on that

I don't know. I thought real drag cars had a straight 8 and 3 on the tree with a single leg.
